USSD Code List

By S21, 25 Jan 2017

USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) codes are used in GSM phones to retrieve data from the service provider (EE, O2, Vodafone, etc.) USSD codes are commonly used to find out information about the phone, check account details, balance, usage, online banking, and other network services. They are sometimes called "secret codes".

USSD codes

A USSD code is usually sent to the mobile network, and a test response is returned almost immediately, so USSD can be considered as a kind of instant messaging service. In some cases, a response will be sent by SMS (text message). However, certain USSD codes are processed by the phone itself and are the same on all GSM phones, as they are not network-dependent.

USSD number codes usually begin with an asterisk or a hash character, followed by other characters and terminated by a hash character. Most USSD codes are network specific. One of the most common uses of USSD codes is to check the credit balance on pay as you go accounts.

How to use USSD codes

To use one of the example codes listed, simply type the code on your dialling pad and press call or send. The information requested will be returned, and you will not be charged.

Important note: USSD codes may change the configuration of your phone or account. Many codes are listed on the internet. Do not use them unless you trust the source of the code. S21 is not responsible for any damage or changes to your phone that may result from the use of USSD codes.
