Sony Ericsson W700i Review
Phone rating:
Review: August 2006. Updated January 2007.
The Sony Ericsson W700i is almost identical to the W800i
walkman phone. The only differences are the change to a new gold
colour, a smaller memory card, and the lack of autofocus in the camera.
The gold colour is attractive, and if the camera is not that important
to you, you can save a few pounds by choosing the W700i. However, we
would urge you to spend a little extra and choose the W810i
which offers all the features of the W800i including autofocus and a
512 Mbyte memory card and has a 5-way navigation button instead of the
slightly awkward joystick used on the W700i and W800i. Nevertheless,
our users have awarded this phone 5 out of 5, and that doesn't happen
very often, so this tells you something about the high quality of this
phone.
Features of the Sony Ericsson W700i include:
- 2 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom and flash
- Video camera
- VideoDJ video editor
- Display: TFT, 262,144 colours, 176 x 220 pixels
- Walkman music player (MP3/AAC formats)
- FM radio
- MegaBass
- 40-voice polyphonic ringtones / MP3 ringtones
- Sound recorder
- Speakerphone
- Messaging: SMS, MMS, email
- Java games
- Flight mode
- Personal organiser functions
- Vibration alert
- Connectivity: Bluetooth, Infrared, USB mass storage, Fast Port
- Memory: 34 Mbytes plus slot for Memory Stick Duo and Memory
Stick PRO Duo (256 Mbyte stick included)
- WAP 2.0, GPRS
- Triband
- Size: 100 x 46 x 20.5 mm
- Weight: 99g
- Talktime: 9 hours
- Battery standby: 400 hours

their sincere openion about W700i. After going through all the feedback
i finally decided to go for W700i, because for rest all the other brands
like motorola, nokia, samsung etc....some or the other limitation were
their. But now i feel very happy that i have purchased w700 last sunday
and i have taken a correct dicision and that too at very nominal price
like 11K with lots of feature which are available at higher price with
other brands. Thanks a lot to you all....

what the phone promised to be.Previously I had Nokia 3230 but this phone
is so much better in every aspect that it even throws a tough competition
towards n-series.Till now i havent faced any problem.Exceptitional sound
quality through headphone and even through the speaker.Great pictures
'who the hell cares about auto focus'.Previously I used to be very much
nokia biased. But now who the hell cares about nokia or others when there
is W700i. GO FOR IT GUYS AND GALS. 7 stars from my side.

Excellent value for money. Great quality sound..The headphones are the
best I have ever seen..with 256 MB memory...you really can enjoy your
music.. Add to that very good Battery back up...Excellent signal strength...Good
Sound clarity.and I just cant stop raving about this phone...i dont
feel any other phone offers you this quality and these many features
at this price... If I have to put down a negative about this.. its the
camera..Its descent for a phone camera..not great The image is good
if taken in good lighting conditons...otherwise its below average..
The shutter speed is not great...So the image you see as freezed on
your display is not the one that the camera captures...its the next
frame that gets captured...so if the image is moving...you probably
wont get what you wanted...the picture also blurs if the camera shakes.
Summary...Just go for this phone if you are music aficionado and dont
care much about the camera. I just love this phone

As far as SONY is concerned AUDIO and VIDEO clarity are always appreciable.
According to me Sony Ericsson W700i is pretty good model.Though it has
excellent features it's look is some what DULL (Not very Eye Catching
as Nokia)in Nature. But, in Nokia - has Good look with Not much OUTSTANDING
features (as in Sony Ericsson Series). > It's display is Prone to HIGH
SCRATCHES > Orange lighting is Not Suitable for All themes > The Battery
Backup is relatively less when compared Nokia series. > Ir doesn't have
call history (not the one after a call ie call summary) in Calls list.

the same clarity without any fuss. i am extremely happy with the mobile.
good standby time of atleast 3 days for my usage. if u listen to songs
for one hour, 5-6% of battery is used up. Easy to access menu. The following
things could have been better - u cannot zoom in on images at high res,
very few games with the mobile.. The ultimate in mobile with a moderate

The phone is excellent. Good sound. Headphone sound quality is excellent.
For mp3 only the sound from the speakers is suprisingly low. For ringtones
and FM it is very loud. DOES ANYONE ELSE FACE THIS PROBLEM, PLS I REALLY
NEED A FIX FOR THIS. The camera clarity is good for a phone, but the
picture blurs when the phone is moved slightly while clicking. Video
is good. Neat phone which comes with a 256MB card upgradeable to 4GB.
Performs good. Easy plug in and out without hanging. Keypad handling
is good and comfortable. Neat buttons for play, volume, walkman and
camera. THe flash is very helpful, but drains the battery soon. The
functions are comfortable and very organised. Wish the video player
had a jumpto option. Have to forward to the last stopped point if to
continue. Boring na. Otherwise a good buy and a good phone. Value for
money.

I think this phone is excellent it has everything you could ask for
such as: An mp3 player, a video DJ, a camera slide so your camera doesnt
get damaged, a 2.0 megapixel camera, photo editor, you can make your
own songs, you never run out of space, infared, bluetooth and even a
cd that you install and when you have installed it, you plug your phone
into the computer with the USB you are given and you can put songs on
your phone in seconds. The only thing that drags this phone down is
it is a walkman, which means it is built for music. You put the music
on your phone and you can hardly hear it because the volume doesnt go
loud enough. You need to put your earphone in to hear it with good quality
and you can only video for 30 seconds. I do reccomend this phone but
you should look and see what else you can find if you are looking for
long lasting videos and good quality sound.

This phone is the best I've ever owned, in terms of features and value
for money. Not only is it an mp3 player, comes packaged with a handsfree
kit and houses a 2.0 megapixel camera, it also has a collection of gimmicky
features to delight technophiles of all descriptions! My personal favourite?
Using it as a remote control to manage my computer via bluetooth. There's
something about using your phone to control your media player, and then
turning your computer off when you're done, all from the comfort of
your bed. :-D Only qualm? The camera lacks autofocus, and my last phone,
the Panasonic VS6, had a much prettier display. Likewise my first phone,
the Nokia 6100 had infinitely better battery life. Having said that,
this is still the absolute best all-round value and performance phone
I have ever owned, and all for 120 quid! Fantismo! :-D Jesus loves you!

For the past year or so I have been a great supporter of samsung and
just upgraded to the e900. Big mistake, cheap tacky build quality, ascending
ringtones, by the time u realise its ringing, it cuts to answerphone
and the battery life sucks (charged it for 16hrs, discharged it, charged
it fully again). So I was stuck for a replacement, the shop assistant
suggested the SE W700i, coz its relatively new, not much difference
between it and the W800i (ie no autofocus, memory cards 256 instead
of 512)and it was cheaper.Im glad I took her advice coz im really impressed
with it. The battery life is very good (as always charge it for at least
8 hours before ya use it, then discharge completely and then charge
again. you wont have any battery probs then). the original SE software
is a breeze to get used to, very little or no hangs as you start cam,
applications, etc. I've recently found out that you can upgrade to a
4GB memorystick if needed aswell (w800i only supports upto 2GB i think).
The sound quality and volume of the phone is very impressive, made even
better when used with the supplied earbud headset ( best headset ive
ever had with a mobile). The sofware for the pc is a breeze to setup
and use aswell (well compared to samsungs & motorolas software anyway).
The build quality is good and solid, the joystick has been improved
aswell, navigation is easy and hassle free. I prefer this colour scheme
aswell compared to the 'oh look at my new mobile' colour schemes about
today. If you want good digital pics or excellent sounds, get a 5-6
meg digital camera or an ipod, thats what they are for. if you want
a phone that takes good photos if needed or listen to good quality tunes
when ur bored, get this phone, you wont be disappointed. Overall for
the price you pay for the handset only, your getting alot and its all
good

Just bought the phone yesterday. Amazing phone! Absolutely loved the
sound quality. A little concerned about the sound quality though. My
advice - upgrade to a 512 mb or 1 gb memory stick and it can give u
the quintessential i-pod experience and a whole lot more. Overall amazing
features - a very welcome change after my relatively ancient nokia 6600
- my faithful companion for over 2 years. And damn guys - the phone
is slick!!! i fell for the mettalic looks, the W810i has got a 'plasticy'
look about it. The mini torch is damn cute, wish it has autofocus though,
then the package would have been unbeatable. Still, go for it - its
gonna roack ur world!!!!

Firstly the plus points of this phone is ... 1}Ultimate graphics, brilliant
color display, clarity is great... when it comes to graphics and sexylooks
and mind blowing features.. SOny Ericson mobile beats all the brands
in the world...Great job Sony Ericsson Keep It up 2}Walkman - mega bass
option (Trade mark Sony Corporation)is Exellent it is just like hearing
it live 3]Firstly I decided to purscahe Nokia 3230,6680,6630(me using
Nokia for 6 Years)..But I thought to Switch to a different brand and
then purchased SE W 700i.. 4]Camera pitchure clarity is awesome...When
transferd to a pc it close to digicam..... It has everything you need
in a phone For that budget...Mind folks If you need a phone in Nokia
That has all the features that W700i has you need to pay 25% more Budget...
I Bet ONLY Nokia N Series Can Beet this W700i And also My friend has
N70..The Picture clarity when put on a p.c is better than N70.. So why
just wait search the internet for reviews ...trust me You Will not Repent......
AND FINNALY BATTERY BACK UP.... IF NOKIA HAS THE FUN AND EXICTING FEATURE
HAS W700I THAN YOU PLAY WITH IT EVEN NOKIA BATTERY BACK UP WOULD'NT
BE SO MUCH..... I ALWAYS SONGS,RADIO,SPEAK FOR HOURS..BUT I RECHAREGE

Bought da W700i... Ori - Thorus.. RM1100.. but without bluetooth headset..
Am I get cheated? Blur.. I heard some dealer gave rite? I also duno
why I bought the one without BT headset 1.. Have compared with W800i,
W810i, K750i. K610i... Just I)W800i - White color .. easier to get dirty...
not suit for me. Forget the price edi. II) W810i - Initially want to
get this phone before going.. Just watch physically and hold it in hand..
My brain gave me some signal.."Keypad looks like plastic".. kind of
toys stuff.. But price attractive .. only RM1200. III)K750i -Everythin'
is cool especially price (RM850 only...wow.) Just one reason.. too many
ppl around using edi.. I want to be special little bit la. IV)K610i
- The design is cool .. cyber feel. Eh.. 3G.. but dunno when I will
use it.. the price RM1280.. package set seem like miss out some thing
like W700i had. like Memory stick... Out of my budget too. But the mp3
speaker seem like louder compared with others when I test it.. But still
cannot find any reason why I need 3G now... Reason bought this W700i.
The design actually.. I meant the casing.. keypad.. err.. included the
color.. acceptable although don't like very very much. Hehe..One more
thing.. no patient to wait for new SE phone coming out.. and I think
I can't afford for the new phone too. And I can accept it with no AutoFocus
like all the phones above.. Coz I more emphasize on the music.. "W"..

its become a portrable mp3 player, transferring music data is really
easy and fast. the included handsfree is one of the best you will ever

sound good on them and if you turn the megabass on then you cant imagine
how good it sounds.only down side is the battery perfomance which is
about a day and half for me but guys i do use it a lot to listen to
music, radio for a person who uses it for about an hour or so of music

I bought this phone yesterday and at first was impressed, especially
by the huge memory (compared to the other phone i was considering, the
Samsung D600)and the fantastic music system, however when i got round
to using the camera i found that it took extremely dull pictures even
in bright sunlight. I went back to the shop where i bought the phone
and swapped it for the Samsung D600, a phone which i feel for me (and
for others who want a quality camera and already own an mp3 player).
I recieved the impression that the Sony Ericsson W700i is good for music
lovers, but for those who already own an mp3 player and want a phone
that they can have a few select fav tunes and take a few (just as good
if not better) quality photo's the Samsung D600 is a much better phone
to go with (and is cheaper too:D). The other feature that i found slightly
anoying about this phone was the fact that all of the 'fun' frames for
taking pictures with were musical based..... a little bit monotonous
after a while.

The Sony Ericsson W700i so far performs well on my end. It has a hardy
built, upon purchasing this phone I noticed that the battery is not
yet fully charged of course, so i decided not to charge it and test
the battery life. Surprisingly, the battery indicator upon purchasing
this phone is on red and still it took me two days to drain the battery.
I played songs , i made calls and sent messages and play around with
the menus and games and still it took me 2 days to drain the battery
considering that I did NOT charge the phone yet. The keys are comfortable,
the only downside of the phone would be the ringtones that came with
the phone are not quite good however we can download ringtones and message
alert tones over from the sony ericsson wap site. The display is nice,
its clear. Wallpapers and screensavers that came with the phone are
really nice and cool.Audio quality is great, call quality is great in
a noisy environment (Network Dependent). For those of you who wants
to purchase this phone I highly recommend the Sony Ericsson W700i. It
has great features. Now in order for you to have a good battery performance
upon purchasing the phone, drain the battery first until the phone shuts
itself off then charge the phone for 8 hours then let the battery drain
on normal use. Then charge the phone for 8 again and drain the battery
and lastly charge it again for 8 hours and let the battery drain. Now
after charging the phone for 8 hours for the third time, and the battery
drained itself off. Charge the phone to its normal charging time. By
doing so, charging the phone for 8 hours in 3 consecutive times you
will maximize the phone battery capacity. I hope this tip helps for
those who will purchase this phone. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PHONE. GO
FOR THE SONY W700i. Its better than the K750i, Better than the W300i.
I salute Sony Ericsson for doing an excellent job.

a phone should have. From the first day I hav kept the phone away from
me only during sleeping. I has got an excellent camera I take pictures
at the rate of 100/day. The WALKMAN is awesome. The 1 button access
to it. The MegaBass feature is like beyond expectations. I can hear
songs clearer than my TV. Truly it deserves nothing less than 5 stars.

I upgraded to this from a K700i just 5 days ago and I haven't looked
back. I had to choose between the K750i, W800i and W550i. W550i had
lots of problems according to reviews, especially with Bluetooth which
I use a lot, the W800i was a piece with no warranty due to it being
a discontinued product (though it was cheaper than the 700), and the
K750i with a 256 mb card came to approximately the same price as a W700i.
Can't say much about battery life yet, but sound quality is absolutely
amazing, which is what I was looking for most. I don't have a digital
camera, so the absence of autofocus didn't make a difference for me.
I was awed by the quality of the camera, though it's not a not that
big a surprise coming from a K700i user. All in all, I'm very satisfied.
My only gripe is that there should have been a larger memory card provided
with the phone. MS DUo cards are more expensive than SD/MMC and the
rest.

I bought this phone a week ago and its really good, I mean it. The best
thing is its good on sound, AWESOME BASS, four preset music functions
and a manual one too, that's where sony is the best, the camera light
function is great and the use of operation also stands out. This phone
lacks auto focus, which is in the big brother W800i and its prodigy,
the k750i. The synchronization with the PC is great, five star to sony
who have come up with a great Disc2Phone music management software,
this phone is slim, much better than the nokia N-series which is a fat
so and largely priced beacause of its popularity on TV. I did'nt find
any problem with the joystick at all, and for all those guys who say
so, I guess they dont know how to operate this baby. The navigation
keys are properly designed. There is a 256 memory card provided by sandisk,
do upgrade to a 512, adviced. I never found any problem with the memroy
stick duo. The platinum gold flush finish on the exterior is very well
done. This phone deserves to be bought, if you have been planing for
a mobile for quite some-time, trust me you have waited for the best,
its almost the same in price compared to the K750i, so get out there
and get this gorgeous phone.

Whatever phone ur going 2 buy .. it all come down to 2 things.. 1.)
BUDGET 2.) What ur goin 2 to with the MOBILE...(i am going for total
entertainment[music,photo,movies,gaming,...of course 2 make calls])
3.) how long u will u use it. i came up with a list nokia 3250,6680
samsung d500,SE w800i(w700i),LG 7200 and motrola V3i. i have seen people
goin 4 nokia costly N-series n91,n80 just it is THE latest mobile which
have a HUGE advertising campaign ... they have no idea 4 what it is
over price .. [wi-fi ,edge, 4gb ,qudra band ,touch sreen]...if u have
no idea regarding this technology PLZ dont buy it . if u know it is
the best deal for u (for I.T. profeesion-they u it very well). AFTER
going through each mobile i landed on w800i.. But soon i knewed that
w800i is out of stock ..since sony has stop manufacturing it bcos w810i
has lauched(which was over-priced 4 me) i had only option for w700i.(not
nokia 3250 and 6680 ....3250 is a MUZIK phone but SE is the best in
it .6680 is a good phone since it has video confercing BUT i stick 2
w700i AND also MOTO v3i is a good phone for ITS HAS A GR8 LOOKS and
good feature BUT i WAS not interested in it ) GOOD PT ......... it has
PHOTO,MUSIC,VIDEO DJ very good to have fun with.camera is excellent
as compared to other brands.music no doubt is best ..i could go on and
on its a good phone(SEE the sony website for the feature). I can tell
u why i liked it better than w800i 90% is same only big DIFF is AUTOFOCUS
which w700i dont have...but w700i has a VIdeo DJ (me and my friend made
our own music video with it)and a soft. called note that it.. (which
w800i dont have)AND also mem .of 256mb. [for me autofocus was not a
gr8 deal][if u want evry thing go for w810i also has EDGE but at that
price u can also get a n70 which is also good but lack mem if u r a
nokia fan] connectivity with PC is good no prob. 4 me the Photo Light(flash
)Is 2 bright and powerful but very useful. just upgrade it to 512 mb
its good. GREAT GREAT shortcut buttons for radio ,music ,camera etc
BAD PT.. for me PLAY NOW is of no use (not avail in india).. since i
like 2 watch movies but it does not support mpeg4(it support 3gp and
mp4 ).w800i is better in looks w700i is some what OK looks ordinary.
the lens button usually get opens when keep in pocket . i found joy
stick sometime frustrating cause while navigating left,up, down, right
u have selct the application by pressing center joystick button accidently.
ONLY one port for battery recharge and headset i.e u cannot have radio
ON if ur recharging and also no USB cable is possible..... and the rest
if u ever heard that Sony errc. has software problem and reception prob.
ITS totally rubbish cause this prob r caused due 2 improper handling
of mobile user(virus can cause prob when connected 2 computer) reception
prob WAS thier in old model not now and also dont buy 2nd hand phone
.buy expnesive ph always with bill.DONT BY SAMSUNG LG NOKIA BCOS UR
NEIGHBOUR OR FRIEND BOUGHT IT .BUY IT PHONE FOR WHAT U ACTUALLY NEED
IT. the last point is HOW LONG U WILL USE IT.some people keep changing
phone for 6 month this review is of no use .. but When u stick 2 a mobile
4 long period this a excellent phone ..since it can be expanded to 4GB.(But
lack EDGE ) ALL i can say is --consider this 3 points and buy the phone.
also go 2 the mobile shop and feel the phone personally and compare
with Other brands.. Rajeev Barde --email :- rajeevv67@yahoo.com

Batter power is nowhere near Nokia models. Power drains very soon. Otherwise,
it is a very good phone. Certain design issues, 1)You cannot put it

There is no doubt that the fone is very good has a unique look about
it. The colour does it for most people - however when you compare the
phone to a K750i, you are not getting anything more for your money.
Features are exactly the same. The only difference that I'm aware of
is that the W700i comes with a 256MB memory card and the K750i with
a 64MB. I work for Orange retail and they are the deals we offer. I'd
have the W700i over the K750i coz of the colour and bigger memory card.
If we sold the W810i on Pay As You Go then I'd rather have that... another
fantastic phone.
