Sony Ericsson V600i review

 Review: October 2005

Rating: 2 stars

In a nutshell: Exclusive to Vodafone, the Sony Ericsson V600i is a slimline 3G phone.

Review

The Sony Ericsson V600i is exclusive to Vodafone. It's a high-end 3G phone that looks like a 2G phone, weighing just 102g!

The V600i has some great features - video calling, a music player with FM radio, a 1.3 megapixel camera and video camera, a very high quality screen, Bluetooth and a multitasking capability. It performs well in these areas, but is sadly let down by poor ringtone volume (leading to missed calls) and poor voice quality as a result of the speaker being placed in an unusual position. These are significant downsides.

The V600i is very similar to the K600i and K608i, except that the V600i has a better keypad than the others. However, all three phones share the same audio problems.

Sony Ericsson V600i features include:

They do as it says on the box and i would not buy another till this one fails and to be honest i cant see it doing that. No doubt my next phone will be a sony . Have had V600i since 3Q2006 - dropped it from up to 2M, used it as a USB stick, have all info on it (birthdays, band gigs, contacts, record work hours, work pix, ebay pix,..) - in all brilliant and better than the other brand I had. But, some of the problems I've read below may not all be the phone. I moved from one city to another and suddenly lost calls, received txt messages hours or days after they were sent, lots of calls coming in at once! These were due to the local cell computers - NOT THE PHONE. My friend bought a brand new, recent model 4G Sony/E and experienced the switching off, network disconnect, when my phone displayed none of these problems (we were both in same area). Turned out it was his phone - complete power down + Master Reset - and his problems haven't occurred again. The service provider will not admit to cell problems as the USER might expect compensation!!

This phone is the best. I have had this phone for four years and its still going strong with the same battery! You can drop it on concrete and it keeps on ticking! Try doing that with a iphone it will vaporize into a million plastic pieces. There is no lag, no problem with the volume and this phone even has a built in powerful light with SOS built into it! What other phone lasts four years with the same battery, the buttons still work the camera everything! This phone is built tough and built to last!

The good thing about the v600i, is that it has some great features, video calling, internet, photo editor, music dj, video etc. the worst thing is TEXTING. you have to press the keys extra hard just to get the letter you want! I wouldnt really recommend this phone to anyone, unless theyre not that keen on texting.

I must say first of all that this is a very reliable phone! I have had no problems with it crashing or not working properly at all, and when it is told to do something, it will complete its task very well and quickly. The only slight minor thing is the volume of the ringtones, I quite usualy have a few missed calls after a night in town, just because you cannot hear it at all in a slightly busy area. when in a quite environment this is no problem of corse, but still slightly annoying. The camera is very good for 1.3MP and the videos are ok as well. Music and videos can be put onto the phone easily via PC and pics can also be put on and used as wallpapers, screensavers and first pages. Another slight downfall is the amount of memory, there is just not enough for what i would want. I quite often go to music gigs, and i am always having to delete former vids and pics just to make room. And because there is no memory card slot, the memory size cannot be increased. But ive had this phone now for around 2 years and it still works perfectly. Very good for amount of money!

I like the camera and the fact you can download games but I quite frequently miss calls due to low volume. The battery life is also fairly low compared to my old Nokia. Another thing is when i try to scroll down it thinks that i pressed k and that gets on my nerves. I WOULD like the fact that you could connect it to the computer if the port on my phone for that wan't broken. It could do with a memorycard slot. Very good phone hough fr £50.

This is good phone in some areas however bad in others.I got this phone for my birthday for a vary cheap price of £99.99 with £30 credit.I like the fact it has 3G,radio,mega pixal,USB cable, voice commands ect.All together the phone has some pretty handy tools. I love the facts it has the radio I listen to it mostly every day.The USB is also vary pleasing I enjoy putting pictures on to the PC.The phones memory is okay but could be better. It also give you some vary good games it's a shame vodafone just gave us the demo.I personaly think thats a a bit of a scam. But you can't argue because the price of the phone makes up for it.The 3G is also vary cool but I rarely use it as it is so much money. On the the other hand it could be improved the sound is vary poor.Even talking on the phone is hard for example: every time I speak to people if it's a little busy in the backgroud I have to turn it to loudspeaker, which makes me feel vary uncomfatable. The sound is also bad when playing music, another example is when my friends are playing music there phones sounds are a much better quality its louder and crisper. Another bad point is the anoyying buttons on the side of the phone.Especially when your wering jeans,If im goin out and come back at least 2 hours later the internet will apear on my phone and has eat at least 10 pence of my credit. In conclusion to the v600i I think it is vary handy for a kid because it has lot's of tools.I would'nt recomend for some one who is'nt busy (as the volume is poor). If i would rate this from 1-10 then it would be 6. This report is from Frazer thanks for reading my review.

For a start please let me inform all the people on here looking to buy a fone for a reasonable price, with reasonable technology. That you have found that fone. And all the people that come on here to complain about this fone should have bought a more expensive one. Lets just keep thinking that i bought this fone for about £72 which is in my opinion very good. It has what you need, the camera is good and is easy to use, the panorama function is kool. People that complain about the picture quality BUY A DIGITAL CAMERA! The sound i thought is also pretty good despite what people say. The people that complain about the original ringtones being poor WHAT DID THEY EXPECT! The mp3 and video player is also very good and the memory isn't that bad if you know a trick or two when it comes to mp3 files. The people that complain about memory need to BUY AN MP3 PLAYER! All in all it has to be said this fone (for the price) is VERY good value for money and i am very pleased with it. Please do not listen to all the people trying to write this fone off, they should have read the specs before buying. THIS IS A GOOD FONE!

Decided to put my own review on here, as most seem to be written by chavs, whose phone commands 'nuff respect' but obviously don't have to live with it. By chance (I happened to renew my contract at the time) I got this phone as soon as it came out, I have had now had a chance to use all of the features in every day use and think the following: Network: Keeps loosing signal and needs to be turned off and on to get it back again, goes through phases of not happening for weeks then about 5 times a day. Switching it off over night helps (reboots it?) Sound quality: Poor - None of the people I phone can hear me very well. Memory: Poor and non-upgradeable, no good for an MP3 player because as soon as you put music on it you run out of space for everything else. Camera: Good in natural light, useless in anything else. Shutter opens in pocket, which overwrites the phone lock. Video quality is better than expected but again only in good, natural light. 3G: Gimmick, video calls are blocky and rubbish. Text / keypad: Best of the phones I have used, predictive text is very fast once you get used to it, plus text English might improve if everybody used it! Overall: Would be a 5 star phone if they could just sort out some of the major problems.

Great phone, great design, huge amount of features. I love it. Most people complaining about the phone don't know what they are doing. The sound is plenty loud enough if you TURN UP the volume, that is what the buttons on the side are for.... also turn up the sound on the Equilizer, then choose an mp3. Now if you can't hear that you must need a hearing aid. The memory is also plenty big enough if you compress the mp3 size which is very easily done. Just download a free trial on a product called Blaze Media Pro (just type in google and download for free) you can compress the files to half their size without loosing ANY quality. The people complaining about the quality of the camera, hey it is a Telephone at least it has one, and much better quality than in many other phones for the price. If you are so concerned about the quality of the pictures buy a Camera. The games included are only demos but you can also download games for FREE so what is your problem!!!! Please remember that this is the lowest priced 3G phone there is (in Australia anyway). The software included to download files from pc to the phone is fantastic, couldn't be easier, much better than the LG software. So please don't judge this fantastic phones performance on uneducated peoples reviews of this phone. I very nearly didn't buy it because of them. They just don't know what they are doing.

This Phone has everything i really like it. There are two small faults, for someone like me who likes their music you can only fit about ten songs on it and the battery life could be better, it drains really fast when watching mobile TV which is amazing. On the whole an ace fone!!!!!

Great when it works. If you are lucky enough to hear the ringtone (even using MP3 recording) the phone often turns itself off or disconnects from signal. Happens at least 10 times a day. Been back twice for 'software faults' still does not work. I'm just glad this was a freeby because I would have been gutted paying for it! The way the camera activates with an easily opening slide cover is really annoying.

I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for. I paid £90 for the V600i and it was worth every penny. The features are great. Does have a slightly fiddly keypad though, but at the price it deserves 5 stars. People who have a bad opinion of this phone.. spend more money!!!

Don't know if it's just a defect on my unit, but the calendar doesn't work as it should. Adding birthdays through Contacts sets the birthdays in Calendar to 1. Jan. 1970 recurring regardless of their proper date. Battery standby time doesn't seem as good as expected. Adding contact details from phone book while writing text message doesn't seem possible.

Got this phone Nov 05. Had lots of Sony Ericsson phones and have always been please. This phone has some cool toys on it. Can connect it via USB to your pc to copy games photo's and ringtones to it easily. Camera is quite good, I like the Panorama mode which tikes 3 photo's and joins them together. The toys work well. I'm a big believer in primary function working really well. That is the point this phone fails. The volume of both the phone and ringtones are not good at all. It improves if I turn on the external speaker but that's of no use when you are trying to have a private conversation. I've never got the auto voice dialing to work via my bluetooth headset and the phone disconnects my headset while I'm trying to dial someone. Worst of all it keeps dropping the network and have to either manually get the phone to search for the network again or turn the phone off and back on again. Who built this Microsoft! It does this between 5-10 times a day! It's not just my phone. My wife has the same phone and hers does exactly the same! As soon as I get time it's off back to the vodafone shop.

Very nice phone, lovely design and shiny black finish. Battery life is good for a 3G phone, memory is a bit limited but here's a tip - if you have the latest copy of i-tunes (available free from the Apple website) you can use the MP3 encoder to downsize your MP3s to a lower bitrate. All you do is go into the preferences and click on "advanced" and then "importing" and then use the custom option to select a low bitrate. You then go back to the library and select the songs you want downsized and click on "convert to mp3". I'd recommend about 56Kbps, it results in songs being about 1.8Mbs each. And there's not as much loss in sound quality as you may expect. By doing this you can fit about 15 songs onto the phone, and still have space for about 20 photos. Onto other bits, the menus are very nicely presented, the earphones have very nice sound quality, the speaker volume isn't that bad, just average I'd say, the camera too is average, but pictures look better when you down load them to a computer. Bluetooth is very fast, better than my old Motorola, and there's a USB cord provided along with software. All in all very good, only complaint is lack of card slot and limited memory. But for only £80 its a splendid deal, go buy!!

Was going to buy the ericsson K700i which looks a little outdated the salesman showed me this sleek baby, fell in love with it immediately.Only had the phone two days and cant stop playing with it.As far as the camera is concerned if You want a massive mega pixel camera then go out and by a camera, ideal for taking snapshots with a great zoom. The flashlight is great for taking indoor photos although cant see why you would use the sos flash. The radio is excellent for listening to the footie.volume is great, the upload software is so user friendly and quick there arent many phones out there that you get the usb cable free, cant say about the memory cos I havent filled it yet.Only found one problem and that is the joystick is very sensitive, probably me.congrats to sony ericsson for a super phone and all this for under a hundred pounds.

so first the site is great and the phone, too. i´ve to say that it´s one of the best you can buy. you only have to take a look on the functions(god helps me). okay some people say the memory is too small, but i think if you relarge the songs you have enough music on your phone. i´ve got a program you can konvert the songs with and am i looking at the size, i just see that they are smaller then 600KB. so now take a result of 37000/600=? yes, it´s 61,6666 so you are having more than 61 songs on the phone and that´s enough on my site. it´s just agreat phone.
