Sony Ericsson T230 Review
Phone rating:
The Sony Ericsson T230 is an entry-level phone that replaces the old
T200. The T200 was a terrible phone, so the T230 is definitely an improvement,
but it's still a very basic phone.
The T230 has a colour display, but at 4096 colours it's not the clearest
screen around, and is very small. The overall appearance and build quality
of the T230 is an improvement, and the keypad is is marginally less
fiddly, but it's not the most ergonomically pleasing phone available.
On the positive side, it's slim, lightweight, and cheap, with good battery
life.
Features of the Sony Ericsson T230 include:
- LCD display (4096 colours, 101 x 80 pixels)
- Sound recorder
- 32-voice polyphonic ringtones
- Ringtone composer
- Games - embedded plus downloadable
- Wallpaper
- Predictive text
- Multimedia messaging (MMS)
- E-mail
- WAP 1.2, GPRS
- Connectivity: USB, RS232 cable
- Optional plug-in camera
- Picture phonebook
- Vibtation alert
- Dual band
- Size: 101 x 44 x 19 mm
- Weight: 79g
- Talktime: up to 12 hours
- Battery standby: 12 days

my poor rating for this mobile may be because of the dates, obviousely
technology has moved on. however, the sony ericsson t230 is a good phone
for someone that doesnt care THAT much about great features. it completes
basic tasks with ease, and it looks good. the main problems people may
find is the slightly low reaction time, and how when you are writing
a text, you may finish the text 30 seconds before it finishes appearing
on screen. however, the battery life is very good and is reliable. the
attachable camera that comes with it is.. ok at best. IN THE RIGHT CONDITIONS
it can take great photos that are clear, but as a general rule, colours
are dull and not sharp. however, for the price this phone is, it is
more than acceptable. the polyphonic ringtones are good, despite there
only being a few of them. the sound recording is good at the right distance,
but who needs that anyway?!? one thing that bugged me for no reason
is that dirt, dust, HAIRS (I dont know either) and fluff seem to go
in the holes where the sound comes from and not come out.. this phone
not having removeable covers, the dirt is stuck and makes the screen
impossible to see in really bright light. overall its a good phone,
but for someone who doesnt care TOO much about how many features it
has.

I have had this phone since august 2003 and i have had enough! I was
first attracted by the colour screen but its not that good i had to
change the contrast to make graphics easier to view. This phone can
have a camera plugged into the bottom but its absolutely rubbish and
very hard to take good pictures. You have to move them to the phone
and even then you have to have enough memory - so that means if you
have recently downloaded a game or got a full inbox then you will not
be able to move your picture to the phone! There is no memory whatsoever.
Another thing that attracted me was the quirky design i quite liked
all the little buttons and the navigation pad was a big plus for me,
but after about 6 weeks some of the buttons had become stiff, i didn't
go away and in the end i had to send my phone away as it had affected
my texting abbilities ( i couldn't use multitap) ( i can't spell abbilties
lol) So pretty much if you want a phone for a good price to use for
the odd call or text, this could be the phone for you.

it's goood. It's: *Light, *Compact, *Has an alright sized screen, *looks
quite good, *cheap, but thats about all. You can have an attatchable

a cheap phone, but with enough features included. It's exactely what
I expected. In the games sometimes hand up, but as any Ericsson it's
easy-to-use, with everything You need from a phone! I can personelise
it for the important people to ring differently, I can compose my own
music, etc... If You want special features like games or other fantasms,
go buy a PC or an expensive phone. I think people don't realise that
if You buy an entry-level phone You can't expect to function as a 500
Euro phone. Sony-Ericsson T230 is outstanding for his price!

of t230, audible and nice polyrings, exterior design, composer, recorder
etc. But as the months passed using this it beacame boring because i
had the same tones, the same wallpaper etc. The problem is the connectivity
it had no IR a neccesity of todays cellphones. IR connectivity is portable
than using datacables. and im beggining to get disappointed with the
software coz its so slow even when im texting the phones can't cope
up with my fingers ending up fixing scrambled messages also u have to
get through a lot of steps before u can send one. i had nokias before

This phone is average, at best. In Ireland it costs 49 Euro as a pay-as-you-go
phone on the o2 network- and this includes 80 Euro of free call credit-
so essentially o2 is paying you 30 Euro to take this phone off their
hands- so my expectations were not exactly the highest..... (49 Euro
offer is from the Carphone Warehouse on Grafton Street, Dublin 2) Phone
has a similar menu structure to the t610, its big brother- and unfortunately
similar problems to it too. There can be problems when you go to charge
the phone- occasionally it refuses to acknowledge that you have put
the charger in at all. Turning off the phone and on at a later point
in time is occasionally problematic (e.g. if you're on a flight and
have to turn it off). On numerous occasions the phone refused point
blank to turn on again- until such time as the charger was plugged into
the phone (despite the fact that it was fully charged). I don't have
massive fingers- but I did have problems with especially the central
joy-stick button- accidentally hitting side buttons was a big problem
(I also had problems with accidentally hitting the send button while
writing text messages- on multiple occasions sending unfinished text
messages). The screen is not as clear as I imagined it would be- but
legible enough. All-in-all, given that I got the phone free- and my
expectations were not particularly high, I was moderately satisfied.
Were I required to pay for this phone I would be disctincly dissatisfied.

if you really have nothing to do all day but push about fifty buttons
before even being able to send a message not even taking count of the
number of pushes needed for the message, I could recommend this phone.
If you have toothpicks for fingers to be able to push the main button
without pushing atleast two of the surrounding, I think You would like
it. And if you are a really, but then really really fast typer that
you are able to see what sigh you actually typed before it is logged

Please note that I am a type ahollic and that this is the first mobile

being ablo to type with it. Im going to get rid of this piece of junk

The Sony Ericsson T-230 is an entry-level MMS-capable phone, on the
level competing with Nokia's 3510i. Well, being an entry-level phone,
one mustn't expect much, but hey, for the money, it displays the best
color screen I've ever seen in its class. Also at par is the voice-polyphonic
tones that sound distinctively better than Nokia's midi-polytones.Text
input maybe slow at first, but when you get used to it, you'll be pretty
quick. And,one thing I liked about Sony Ericsson phones is their professional,

This is a great phone for anyone who wants great value for their money.
The Good and Bad about the T230: Good: Basiclly Everything- The T230
cellphone is one of the most stylish phones I have seen. It comes in
two colours, and is incredibly small and sleek, in other words if you
like phones with good looks this little baby is for you! The Screen
is a good size for the phone & the colour is brilliant (bright, clear,
good quality e.t.c). The features are outstanding( there is just so
many!). They include two awsome games, but V-Rally is my fave!!:-) plus
a stopwatch, alarm, timer, events calender & SO much more. Heaps of
great ringtones are included( 32 voice polyphonic) There is loads of
accesories including a clip on "Communicam" and a FM handsfree radio.
You can Browse the internet via Wap which is one of my fave features
on the phone! O.K I could go on for ages about the good points but I
gotta get to the bad point/s. Bad: The only bad thing about this phone
is there is no intergrated camera, but it is easy enough to clip on
the attachible one. So.. GO AHEAD AND BUY THIS PHONE!! For a more detailed

If you are lookin for a Cheap-for-features phone, look no further, apart
from the horrid keypad, it's a pretty good mobile. Has some outstanding
functions like + One touch SMS, + Decent MMS support (100k size limit
and multi page editing, a Nokia usually has 1 page only and a stupid
46k size limit on MMS) + Voice recorder surrporting AMR popular format
and sending over MMS. you can get about 2:30 of speech on one MMS, cheap
way to send a voice message! + You can also record you own sounds this
way to use as ringtones, + Colour screen is much better than t200, t300,
t68, t68i supporting 4096 colors instead of 256 colours. + Wap 1.2.1
browser, capable of limited HTML browsing. + downloadable games (this
is NOT java) + picture MMS with attachable but clumsy CommuniCam mca-25
now the bad bits, - Keypad!!! aRGH!!! I thought my Sagem was bad, they
are too tiiiny, hard to press and are a horrid plasticly "rubber" material.
- Wap browser has a fault, You browse to a WAPsite that has a "search"
or logon form fields, Theis silly phone says "you need to fill something
in" if you miss even one field, even if clicking "back", "home" or something
similar and not required.. - Sony Ericsson have not fixed the bugs yet,
not even one F/W upgrade avail. - OS is a little slow, can get locked
up if you rush it. - No Bluetooth (You get what you pay for) - No I/R
(You get what you pay for but i'm sure they could have stretched to
IR.) - simacard is far too hard to insert/remove. Argh! - CommuniCam
mca-25 is too slow to upload pics to phone. The clumsyness is handleable.
In a summary, it's a capable but simple and easy to use little phone
with terrible number keys. Shame they stuck it in such a bad case. I
wish it was a little nicer and rounder as well as some edges are quite
sharp. The attachable CommuniCam mca-25 takes fantastic picures for
a phone, but is very slow and clumsy.

An okay phone, small and light. Keypad is too small (the keys are rectangular
and very thin) and the minuscule 'confirm' button (in the middle of
the 4-way directional button) is chrome plated which makes it very slippery
so it's easy for one's finger to slip off it. By far the most ANNOYING
feature is this: To send a text message, this is the RIDICULOUS routine:
1. Press NO to wake up the phone 2. Press the slippery chrome button
to get the main menu 3. Press the 'right' button to go to 'messages'
4. Press the slippery chrome button to select 'messages' 5. Press the
slippery chrome button to select 'text' 6. Press the slippery chrome
button to select 'write new' 7. Write the message using the small keys.
8. Press the slippery chrome button to select 'send' 9. If the number
is in the phone memory, press 'left' to get to the phone numbers section.
10. Press the slippery chrome button to select 'phonebook' 11. Press
the slippery chrome button to get to the phonebook or type in a letter
(eg. D) to show those names (eg Dave, Don....) 12. Press the slippery
chrome button to select the name. 13. Press the 'down' button to select
'send'. Off it goes. At last. At least this means you'll save a lot
of money, because you won't bother doing all this unless it's a really
important message!!!

My experience with the phone hasn't been good. Apart from good looks,
I have had major problems with thy functioning. My cell has managed
to hang up in 3-4 instances and the only solution available for me was
to remove the battery. I keep cancelling a particular step by pressing
the NO key and it takes ages to come out of the particular mode. The
functioning of the Yes and the No key is extremely slow.

Recently,I boughta SE T230 to replace my old Nokia 3510. At first, it
was good, because of its smart features. However, I am greatly unimpressed
by the phones irritatingly slow response. If my 3510 was a Pentium 4,
the the SE T230 was... an abacus!Seriously, it was really slow. It was
also nice because it has better resolutuion than other phones of its
category (3530, etc.), but higher numbers of pixels doesnt always mean
optimum picture quality. The pixels were so dull, that i could almost
write in between them. Such a big disappoinment.

This would have been a perfect mobile phone from Sony Ericsson if it
had a Profiles menu, customizable message alerts (like virtually all
Nokia mobile phones), user-replaceable housing (like most Nokia mobile
phones) and an infrared connection. Otherwise, the size is small & handy
and the other features are great. An impressive Avis.

I got this mobile phone to replace my Nokia 3530. I had mixed feelings
with getting a Sony Ericsson since I'm adept at using Nokia mobile phones
(my first one was a Nokia 3330), but my friend assured me that they
are of good value and very unique. I chose between a Sony Ericsson T310
and a T230, but got the T230 because it looked better, had more screen
colors (4096 to be exact) and is a much newer model. Plus, it only cost
me PhP 4,700 (approx. US$85.00). I was happy to trade-in my Nokia 3530
which I had for about EIGHT PROBLEMATIC-FILLED months. My first impressions
on the phone are that it looks sooo one-of-a-kind! Most of the people
here use Nokia cellphones, so my mobile phone is pretty unique. It's
really small, like a Nokia 8250. It's got a bigger screen than the Nokia
3530 (101x80 pixels for the T230 versus 96x65 pixels for the 3530) which
means better resolution than my low-res 3530. It's got two preinstalled
games with V-Rally 2 as my favorite. It's got great featur es which
were never available with the Nokia 3530 such as an optional camera
attachment, themes, 24-layer polyphonic ringtones and voice recorder
all in a classy package. Now for my nitpicks...I am a pretty fast texter
so it came as a disappointment to me that it has some noticeable delay
when I "speed-text". My remedy to this is to slow down my texting a
notch lower. Another negative is the tactile feel of the keys are not
what I had in mind. The keypad is made of rubber (like the Nokia 5210)
thus one has to press a bit harder to enter text. The housing isn't
user-replaceable, but there are some Class-A replacements which cost
considerably more than Nokia Xpress-On covers. Nitpicks aside, this
is really a unique and feature-filled phone for its price. No regrets.

When my boyfriend suggested that he'll get me a new mobile as a birthday
gift I was a bit skeptical - sure my TDMA Nokia 1230 was old but it
still worked. I was able to make and recieve calls and send SMS. Why'd
I need a new phone? Besides, he was the one that got em the Nokia in
the first place. Of course, never one to look a gift horse in the mouth
I looked at my options and it came down to either the Sony Ericsson
T230 or the Nokia 5100. Now I loved Nokia and found that it was a trustworthy
brand, yet I opted for the T230. I've had it for only a month now and
I have no regrets thus far. I found it to be user friendly and in a
matter of an hour I was used to handling it. I loved the bright color
display which is a great improvement from what I had before. And inspite
of what I had read in other reviews, the display is indeed visible in
the bright sunlight. The games V-Rally2 and Deep Abyss are addicitive
and a major improvement to the Snake and Space Impact I used to pla
y on my old Nokia. It's lightweight and compact and I sometimes even
forget that it's attached to my waist. It's camera ready, has a melody
composer and a sound recorder, as well as useful little things like
a calculator, timer and stopwatch. And of course it's got GPRS capability.
You can't go wrong for a phone that cost about US$105. There are a few
drawbacks however - the buttons are smaller than what a hard and fast
Nokia user might be accostomed to. And then there's the slow or delayed
reaction time of the phone when doing certain applications like texting
or playing either of it's two games. There are some nice polyphonic
ringtones ( I like Irish Dreams and Caribbean of course) however there
are too few of them (8 to be precise)and although you can compose a
few and save them, my music lessons never took me that far. Of course
there is always the option of being able to download tones and games
from the sony ericcson website. All in all though, it's a sleek little
phone that's easy to use, comes with loads of useful features and it's
very affordable. Now if only I can convince my boyfriend to get me the
attachable camera ... :) Thanks Dustin!
