Sony Ericsson K510i Review

Phone rating:

Review: September 2006. Updated May 2007.

The Sony Ericsson K510i is an excellent value phone that gives you a lot for your money.

Starting with imaging features, the K510i has an excellent 1.3 megapixel camera and a video camera, although unfortunately there's no flash and the screen resolution is too low to do the pictures real justice. Still, you can transfer pics to a computer to appreciate just how good the camera is.

The music player supports MP3 and AAC formats and is of excellent quality. The only disappointment is that the memory is enough for only a dozen or so songs. However, for the money you won't find any competitor offering a memory card. If you want to use your phone as an iPod replacement, spend some more cash and get a Sony Ericsson W700i, or if money is tight perhaps a Samsung E370 or a Motorola SLVR.

Other features available on the K510i include a polyphonic ringtone editor, sound recorder, speakerphone, email, changeable covers and 3D Java games. Connectivity is excellent, with support for Bluetooth, USB and Infrared as well as the new Fast Port connection. It's a very lightweight and compact phone that packs an awful lot in and has no real faults. A highly recommended mid-range phone, now replaced by the even better K550i.

Features of the Sony Ericsson K510i include:

  • 1.3 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom
  • Video camera
  • Display: TFT, 262,000 colours, 128 x 160 pixels
  • Music player
  • MP3/AAC ringtones (40-voice)
  • MusicDJ™ ringtone editor
  • Sound recorder
  • Speakerphone
  • Messaging: SMS, MMS, Email
  • 3D Java games
  • Personal organiser functions
  • Changeable covers
  • Memory: 28 Mbytes
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, USB, Fast Port, Infrared
  • GPRS, Web browser
  • Vibration alert
  • Triband
  • Size: 101 x 44 x 17 mm
  • Weight: 82g
  • Talktime: 7 hours
  • Battery standby: 360 hours

I got this phone for Christmas and I am very pleased with it. I didn't want a very expensive flashy phone will tons and tons of features, I wanted a simple, sexy phone. The camera is of very high quality, though it is only 1.3 megapixels but as I have a digital camera it didn't bother me that much! The media player is fantastic, although there is only 28MB memory on the phone, but I don't want to replace my mp3 player!! Thanx for reading. Get this phone and you won't be dissapointed.

Well, my boyfriend bought me a new phone for christmas, so then it would be cheaper for us to get hold of each other, but 2 days after i had bought it it started freezing! I can't make or receive phonecalls, send or receive texts, so i have no contact with my boyfriend whatsoever, plus this is a long distance relationship, he's in North Wales on work and I'm in South Wales. So I am pretty peeved about this. I've always been told that this was a good phone but I can't wait 'til my boyfriend comes home on Friday and I am changing it for a different model, I wish I stuck with my decision to go for a Samsung! Less Hassle!

I got mine as the renewal of my abonament without paying anything (well, almost). I've been a user of Nokia phones, and I was li'l bit worried about switching back to anything else than a Nokia (Ericsson 388 ('95), then a 688 ('96), Motorola Startac 130 ('98), Nokia 8110i ('99) and finally Nokia 6210 ('01)). Because Nokia created the most user friendly phones after the new millenium, with a great functionality. I didn't have the need to change my last phone for over 5 years. So changing phone was rather not important for me, but technology was changed the things a lot in the last 5 years. So this phone, for a 'phone' user like me is very cool. I'm not into using a phone as an mp3 player, so I don't mind limited memory. But that memory, is big enough to hold 'acceptable' resolution pictures, definately. As I don't have an intention to go on for a vacation and immortalize the vacation with holiday pictures by using A PHONE, I don't care whether it has not enough memory to hold 100 mp3s or not. I'd consider this 'memory thing' as big, if only it is as big as 2 or more Gigabytes. Not crappy 128 MBs. So, theres a long way for me, that phones will store and record my 24 bit 48kHz wave files. This phone is very easy to use, with great functionality. If you know how to set up a pop3 and smtp servers, you can almost use it like you use Outlook Express. No, you don't need to have a seperate internet account. If your network operator permits, you can use your web-based e-mail account to receive and send e-mails. After it is set, to receive and send e-mails just needs 4 clicks (with the possibility to personalize the shortcuts on the jog/joystick). This phone is elegant too. I don't look for iguana/kamaleon type of phone, which you can change the color/cover. Its enough to have it 'good enough' looking. I don't wear pink, but the black one of this phone would fit to any clothing (A tip for the women) I am impressed. Usability of this phone proved to me, that Nokia is not alone in the compettition.

I paid £80 (with £30 free credit) which is excellent value. I am impressed as the camera is much better than the VGA phone I replaced it with. I have downloaded games etc which work well. You get the headset/usb lead which adds to the value. The only downside is the camera shutter sounds which you can't turn off.

Ive been a sony ericsson fan since i bought my T610 years ago and i must say that this phone is fantastic for the price. Okay,so the screen is of a low resolution - 128x160 - so it doesnt do the camera justice, but if you view the pictures horizontally then they look superb. The memory is quite good as well - 28MB - you can put music on it if you choose but do you really want to replace your mp3 player with a phone - maybe one day but they just dont have enough memory for me just yet. Everything on this phone works as good as you expect,in my eyes it is excellent value for money,it does everything the W800i does but at a lower spec. If you want to listen to music then get a walkman, there are downsides though, poor screen resolution for the camera, not enough memory to listen to music and the worst thing sony ericsson have done is give it removable covers - i hate that, leave it up to nokia - Do not be tempted to remove the cover - i did - and now the screen is always full of dust and im always having to clean it. So,an excellent phone where everything works as it should but whatever you do dont remove the front cover.

I've only had the phone a few days, but so far I have been extremely impressed with it. The camera is of fantastic quality, it looks brilliant, it feels sturdy but at the same time, very light. As always with a Sony Ericsson, the user interface is very simple and user friendly. Moreover, with just an up flick of the joystick, you can access; 'New Events'; shortcuts to key functions such as Bluetooth and alarms; and bookmarks. The media player is of incredible quality, however, with only limited memory, it is impossible to enjoy this function to its full capacity. This, for me, is the phone’s only downfall. Despite this, I would still definitely recommend this phone to anyone who doesn’t want anything too flashy, but still wants a phone chock-a-block full of features, all packed into a stylish and sturdy casing.

his phone is well worth the £90 od quid that i bought it for. It has a decent camera and the navigation is really user-friendly. The 25mb storage is pretty dissapointing but if you want to hold all of iron maiden's songs on it get an mp3 player man! The games are fun and i bought juiced! for it which keeps me occupied for hours. Bear in mind that this phone dosen't have the largest memory and the a billion pixel camera but, it does the job. So if you need a decent phone for a good price i urge you to buy it now!!!!!!!! GO ON!!!!!!!

Also with the new USB feature for sony ericsson it makes it easier to upload and send music, picture, videos and java files. I would consider buying this phone as it has interchangeable cases, but the best case has to be the mid-night black version. Lets have at least a font size 10. I stand at over 1.8 mtrs with average to large size hands!, when are mobile phone makers going to make phones that are actually NOT for small fingered people and those with long finger nails......... The screen is of a high definition and the cameras imaging is excellent in video or normal capture of a picture. The quality can be felt from texting to video recording. A Standard 28MB of memory is plenty for a few songs, and the USB connection to a PC is quick and easy to change your music or other media. Even the Sony Ericsson headset is included, for music playback and handsfree phonecalls. The K510i competes with all top price phones with exactly the same features, yet for a much lower price tag of around £90. this fone as i think is an upgrade to the SE K300i.I mean it's a budget phone which costs 80 pounds(8,500 pak rupee) which has a 1.3 megapixel camera ,bluetooth,a 262k screen. but don't be over-excited because the screen resolution is (128x160)pixels ,lower than current sony ericsson phones having a 1.3 megapixel camera the memory is just 28 megabytes.but looking at the price the fetures are very good .I mean look at the nokia 7370.just a good display otherwise the features are same and the memory is smaller and it costs three times as much as this mobile. So i really recommend this mobile phone as a budget phone.NOT AS A SHOW OFFY PHONE OR A PHONE WANTED FOR IT'S RICH AMOUNT OF FEATURES

I love this phone, very sleek and good looking, has everything including a decent enough camera (1.3MP), video/voice recorder, blue tooth, USB connection, MP3 Player... just about everything! Very good phone! And cheap too! (£100) My only peeve was that my perticualar phone keeps on freezing on me for like 30secs at a time while I am texting... sometimes the videos don't work nor the sound. But I am defo gonna take this one back and get a new phone exactly the same make and model... WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND!!

A nice, compact design and gadete of SE after all. PC software and other softwares still lack sync continuity.SE need to improve the stuff on all aspect not only the mp3 grade sound, walkman phones.
