Sony BDP-S1200 review
|Review: November 2014|
In a nutshell: This entry-level player in Sony's 2014 range has a premium, stylish design, and is a good basic Blu-Ray player.
Design & looks
The Sony BDP-S1200 is an entry-level Blu-Ray player with a distinctive design. The slim, stylish "sense of quartz" design matches Sony's TV range and will look good in any home. For added convenience, the device has a super quick start and can boot-up in less than a second.
The player doesn't support 3D playback, but it will upscale DVDs to 1080p HD. It also plays DVDs and audio CDs. It includes support for 16-bit deep color and 24p playback.
Sony Entertainment Network
The Sony Entertainment Network gives you internet access to online movies, catch-up TV, music and YouTube videos.
The player connects to a HD Ready TV via HDMI and there's a coaxial audio output for connecting to an external speaker system.
A USB port lets you plug in a USB drive and access music, photos or videos on your TV.
For internet access, you must use the ethernet cable, as there is no built-in Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi option.
The Sony BDP-S1200 is cheap, at just £50, and for this price you can't go wrong, as long as you don't require 3D playback or a Wi-Fi connection.
Sony BDP-S1200 features include:
- Playable disks: Blu-Ray, DVD, CD
- Audio: Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS-HD, Dolby True HD
- Connectivity: HDMI, ethernet, USB, digital audio output (coaxial)
- Standard remote RMT-B128P
