Scottish Hydro has been my supplier for a number of years so when my boiler broke down at the beginning of the cold spell ( freezing conditions) and my wife housebound with COPD I turned to them for help.
I chose their offer of their Shield Protection product which includes urgent repair of broken down boiler for existing customers.
After a wait of 5 days without heating or hot water in freezing temperatures their engineer turned up mid afternoon.
He appeared to be uninterested in our predicament and went to the boiler to check it.
After removing the cover and finding the pilot light would not start up he refused to continue his work as he did not know how to isolate the power to the boiler. I offered to switch off all power at the supply but he still refused on H&S grounds.
He then stuck a warning label on the boiler and told me I needed an electrician before he would continue.
After seeing him off I was able to get a Scottish Gas engineer to attend.
This guy spent 10mts at the boiler and after cleaning the pilot feed the boiler is back to 100% performance. I cannot repeat his opinion of the SHE engineers (professionalism?).
Needless to say I cancelled the boiler cover and will now change my supplier with immediate effect to another who I can rely on when needed.
Very unsatisfactory experience.
