Samsung WW80J6410CW review
|Review: November 2015|
In a nutshell: The Samsung WW80J6410CW washing machine is quiet and efficient, and comes with the reassurance of a 10-year warranty on its digital inverter motor. Offering a stylish and contemporary look with a large LED control panel and an easy-to-open door, it will grace a modern kitchen with its looks. Its 8kg capacity, 1400rpm spin, and choice of Eco or Speed washes makes it a good all-rounder, and it should meet the needs of most families.
New for 2015, the WW80J6410CW washing machine brings your kitchen or utility room bang up to date with Samsung's typical design flair. Finished in White, with a dark blue door and an LED control panel, this is a very stylish addition to your home.
The control panel is quite sophisticated, with a rotary dial to select the programme, and an LED display with buttons below to control the various options available. It has a certain high-tech appeal, but isn't necessarily the simplest machine to use. Fortunately, the power button and start button are easy enough to find.
The door is larger than usual, and the positioning of the handle at 45 degrees makes it easy to open.
Washing and performance
This machine has a decent 8kg washing capacity, making it suitable for a family. There's a reasonably extensive range of programmes, including Baby Care, Bedding, Wool and Delicates, as well as the more obvious Cotton, Synthetics, Dark Wash and Rinse & Spin. There's also an option for Super Eco Wash and Super Speed. Super Speed reduces the entire wash and spin cycle to around one hour.
You can choose a Prewash or Intensive wash for particularly stained clothing. For lighter washes, you can wash right down to 15°C, using Samsung's EcoBubble technology to penetrate fabric. However, at S21, we're a bit old-fashioned, and in our opinion you can't beat a high temperature wash if you really want to remove dirt and leave clothes smelling fresh.
The maximum spin speed is a moderate 1400rpm, which is quite typical for a modern washing machine, and is enough to remove a fair amount of moisture from clothes before drying. The machine is rated "A" for spin efficiency.
This model carries a very high A+++ energy efficiency rating, so even without using the Super Eco Wash, it's low on energy use.
One of the best features of the appliance is hidden inside. It's the digital inverter motor that drives the washer. Significantly quieter and more energy efficient than a conventional motor, this makes the machine much quieter than typical washing machines, both during washing and spin modes. It's also a very reliable technology, and is guaranteed for 10 years.
Samsung is a more reliable make than most, and the digital inverter motor comes with a full 10-year warranty. Other components aren't covered by the 10-year guarantee, but the motor is usually the most costly repair if a washing machine breaks down. We rate Samsung as one of the most reliable manufacturers, on a par with German makes like Bosch and AEG.
Conclusion - a safe option
The Samsung WW80J6410CW falls firmly into the "expensive" category of washing machines, but it justifies its price by being quiet, efficient, and good at washing. That 10-year warranty on the motor is also very reassuring. After all, the most significant factor affecting an appliance's value for money is probably not its purchase price, but the cost of repair or replacement if things go wrong.

Positively the worst washing machine I have ever had. The instructions are incomprehensible with no link to fabric washing instructions. I have had to resort to washing everything on the same program to avoid destroying clothes.
I purchased this machine because of its top rating by Which and will certainly not be relying on that publication for future purchases. I am now looking to get rid of it after 6 months and buy something fit for purpose.
