Samsung UE40JU6740 review

 Review: June 2015

Last updated August 2015

Rating: 3 stars

In a nutshell: The Samsung UE40JU6740 is a very attractive TV with a curved screen. It also offers the benefit of a built-in Freesat HD tuner. But despite producing some impressive levels of brightness and contrast, viewing angles are narrow, and the curved screen doesn't help with that at all. It's also very expensive for a 40-inch television. Heck, for this money you could even buy a decent 48-inch TV!

Summary

The Samsung UE40JU6740 is the 40-inch version of the 48-inch Samsung JU6740 we reviewed earlier. It's the same as the UE40JU6500 but with the addition of a smart metal V-shaped stand, UHD dimming, and a Freesat HD tuner. These are all welcome additions, but the price of the TV is still high for what you get.

In any case, we're not really sold on the benefits of a curved screen and UHD in a 40-inch television.

Best picture quality I've seen on a midrange TV. There's a little lag in high action sports, but worth putting up with for the picture quality. Just havin sky Q silver installed with 4K package so should be even better, if that's possible ?

Bought this TV as it was full of promise and appeared to offer everything l needed. However, its not fit for purpose. The i players do not work, and Samsung support has not been very helpful. Needless to say, its going back to the retailer!!!

For the size of our room this is a perfect size TV. The curves are an added bonus as there is no reflection on the screen and the picture quality is excellent. Very happy with this product.

Got this TV on Amazon special deal but will be sending back due to poor picture. The viewing angle is so narrow you have to look straight on to get the best picture, otherwise colours fade and picture washes out. It is good with HD content but SD is rubbish and has a pink tint which I couldn't correct without affecting other content. My old 40B650 has a better picture and it's about 10 years old. Samsung seem to be going backwards in terms of picture quality. Only good thing is the smart hub features.
