Samsung T100 Review
Phone rating:
Launched in May 2002, the Samsung T100 was a ground-breaking phone
with its large colour display and high-quality polyphonic ringtones.
It's a fantastic looking phone, that just oozes style! It features the
extremely popular dual-display that means you can see who's calling
you before deciding whether to take the call. To accept the call, you
just flip open the phone. The external display also shows useful information
like date & time, battery life and reception quality.
These days the phone cannot compete with its newer rivals, even though
its screen is still one of the best in its class. Many users have found
that it is a difficult phone for texting, and its battery life is also
poor. Overall, this was a near-perfect phone when released. It was a
sexy-looking phone that had the best colour screen and polyphonic ringtones
on the market. A few years later on and it's no longer state of the
art.
The main features of the Samsung T100 are:
- WAP
- High-resolution colour screen (TFT, 4096 colours, 128 x 128 pixels)
plus external display
- Predictive text messaging (T9)
- Voice dialling and speed dialling
- Voice memo
- 16 polyphonic ringtones and customisable ringtones
- Phone memory (500 names)
- Caller display
- Built-in modem
- 3 games
- Downloadable screensavers
- Calculator, clock
- Size: 88 x 50 x 22 mm
- Weight: 87g
- Battery standby: 60 hours
- Battery talktime: 1.3 hours
- Vibration alert
- Dual band

All show and no go yes it looks good sounds good (if you can hear it
when outside) but it is no good as a mobile phone the reason battery
life and robustnest both very week, after about five months of moderate
usage my t100 became a useless piece of silver plastic, the batery life
was just laughable even on extended life the thing scratched every time
it was in my pocket, i could never hear the thing ring when in my pocket
and in a busy enviroment an dvibrate was very week, and when i made
a call or exepted a call after about a five minuet chat with the wife
it died (that dammed battery life again)but after reading some of the
reviews of this phone i will disagree it was a hard phone to use, after
a afternoon reading instructions and playing with the phone i found
it simple to use and it did have same very nice features but as for
a mobile phone to keep me in touch when out and about i found it to
be unsuitable leason learnt on my part, this phone will suit someone
and i sugg est you look long and hard at what your mobile requirments
are before parting with cash to bye a t100, this is a old phone now
and things have got much better so unless you realy realy realy want
a t100 dont part with your cash look around and choose something better,
i now use a nokia 3410 wich is ideal for me and my mobile world.

I just bought this phone second-hand from an internet auction, and I
am very impressed by the array of features on this phone. The main pros
on this phone is the small stylish design, the 2 batteries which allows
you to alternate batteries, the colours on this phone are very bright
and clear, especially for 4096 colours, voice memos, very clear loud
musiclike polyphonic ringtones, a very cool menu layout and the little
screen on the front that allows you to check the time and for any messages
and its generally a kewl phone. The cons are that texting takes a few
more steps for those of you who spend half your life texting people,
and it has no bluetooth or wireless connections for hardcore business-y
people. So basically, this phone is not good for people who are extremely
heavy texters or for people who expect a phone to have every single
function possible to cram into a cellphone and still look stylish and
tiny. So for fashion concious people who really want an eyecatc hing
phone, this phone is PERFECT~!!! So don't expect the functions of a
laptop on the phone, and you will be extremely impressed - cheers Chris

I fail to see what some people are having a problem with on the T100.
It isn't difficult to use, the menu system is actually very elegant
once you get used to it, and, shock horror, maybe read the instructions?
Once you've adapted to having a proper cursor key system to use, Nokia's
navigation system feels positvely primitive. Texting is a bit more fiddly
than on other phones, but again, it isn't difficult and you'll be knocking
out texts at the usual speed in no time. (Unless you're one of the stupid
people who can't learn how to use a new phone.) The screen is fantastic,
build quality is high, battery life is a little short on the normal
battery, but use the extended battery and you'll get through five days
without a charge. The games are awful, but who plays games on their
mobile anyway? Ring tones and other alarms are varied, only a moron
couldn't work out how to get it to vibrate and ring at the same time.
Quality phone, and available relatively cheaply now.

I bought this phone when it was new on the market costing me £270 on
pay as you go....I have really enjoyed using the phone, and being at
school I suppose I don't have a phone to live my life. The design is
pretty good, except when it is 'open', it is extremely huge. As for
the battery power, the extended battery (which should've come with the
phone) lasts for about 5 days for me. Before this phone I had a 3310,
which I liked due to having a data cable...this came with a data cable...:)...however,
to use the alarm the phone has to be switched on which means for me
the phone has to be on 24_7...i got a free battery out of that! I have
now gone back to Nokias, but only through a cheap deal for a brilliant

more times than I can remember and it has only come of with a few scratches),
great ringtones, and a bright screen. Only a few down points, when you

This phone really doesn't deserve the criticism people have been giving
it...ok the texting is slow and often annoying, and the games are bad
to say the least but these are only small problems with an otherwise
attractive and functional phone. The T100 comes with many features,
although slightly out of date now by not having a camera...it boasts
voice memos, voice dialing, WAP, polyphonic ring tones and a beautiful
colour screen that allows downloads from your pc of digital photo images.
Overall, I have had this phone for 18 months and have not found any
problems with it. I bought it when colour screens were new on the market,
and am only upgrading now because I feel the digital camera is severely
lacking....although this has got to be expected from early second generation
phones. Since there has been so much praise of Nokia phones on this
site...I would just like to say that I too have owned many Nokia phones
in the past and find them equally good (if not slightly easier to use)....but
Nokia are failing to keep up with the market, therefore if you want
a top of the range mobile, I suggest trying alternate dealers and definitely
checking out the newer Samsung models e.g. V200, and E700.

If this phone were a car it would be a Ferrari, it looks great, the
sound is great and its body is as lightweight and as smooth as a pin
up models. Unfortunately thats were the comparisons end. Having liked
the phone purely for its visual aesthetics and not necessarily for its
functionality I rushed out and purchased it. To start with, as mentioned
by so many other reviewers, the text messaging is a nightmare. I cant
understand why Samsung couldn't have learn't how to do this right by
observing user friendly Nokia. It's fiddly to input messages and often
requires two hands to do so. It should have had a dictionary as standard
and short cuts to add numbers. This is my main problem with the phone.
Another problem is the menu system. Although the menus look great, trying
to navigate through an endless series of submenus can become frustrating
after a while. I also can't understand why only about 5 of the polyphonic
ringtones that come with the phone are actually any good. Most are tunes
that herald from a time before the dinosaurs and clearly dont show the
phones full potential (what is it with companies and using ye olde tunes?).
To finish on a positive, i real like the fact that you can download
your own jpegs and there are a good variety of extra features. The games
are unique. The technology is good. The main plus is its sheer design,
its a joy to look at. Overall, it works well but with some niggling
points.

First of all i must say that this phone has seen me in good stead, it
was the second phone i ever got after the Motorola Timeport 250, which
in its time was a great little phone. Why did i only give this phone
3 stars, well asmany people have comented it does have its flaws, but
then again it does have its up sides too! Ok in my opinion the biggest
flaw with this phone is that it has no dictionary, that is a major problem,
especially if your saying "meet you in [local town] in 30 mins", well
you'll have to enter the name of the town in stages most of the time,
which is a pain. As for the need for camera's what the hell is the point,
most of them are sub VGA and its just not worth it at all, so ok you
can customize your phone, but i'd rather use my proper Nikon Coolpix
and upload the pics if neccessary on to the phone that way. The main
reason i like this phone is that it is so durable and that although
the battery life isn't great, when you think it is powering a very good
TFT screen, which in comparison with some of the 65k displays is much
clearer in almost any light. I got some cool ringtones, managed to download
R.E.M. losing my religion for free from somewhere, which is quite a
nice ringtone, mind you i do use vibrate alot though. The games are
a little slow and tedious on this phone, but if i wanted a portable
gaming machine well i'd go get a game boy, not a phone! Finally the
ringer volume is nice and loud, which when compared with the Sony Ericson
T610 is shocking, my girlfriend can hardly hear that phone when i ring
it and i ususally have to call her about 20 times lol! Anyway its a
goo little phone and very stylish, however it has had its hay day, but
you know that is the way things go!

Alot of people who have given this phone a bad review are forgetting
that this is a very old phone. It came out about a year ago now, and
it was by far the best phone on the market, the only competition was
the T68i (and have you seen the reviews of that), but it has everything
i wanted at that time, it had a fancy colour display (highest resolution
of its time), it has very good games, compared to the other games at
that time (card games and snake were the alternative), it was one of
the first phones with organiser/to do list options. It holds loads of
names, numbers and texts, and i haven't even got to the best part, the
looks are phenomenal. I would say that this phone is the best looking
samsung ever made, better than even the V200! not to mention the sharp
menu and the excellent button display. It is very light and suprisingly
very strong (i have dropped mine in the street, literally 20 times (hoping
to get a new 1 on the insurance) and it is still working in perfect
ord er. If you put its features up against a phone today, it cannot
compete, its not even close. BUT, for its time its amazing. If you put

i now only answer calls i want to and i don't accidentaly call people

To start off with, the phone looks great; probably the best on the market
in my opinion. This is why my rating isn't a 1 though because everything
else about this phone stinks! To start with, as everyone else has stated,
the battery life is terrible and mine often lasts less than a day! Also
it dies on me continuously. The T100 does promote that you can download
ringtones and screensavers off of your PC but mine has never worked
from any computer and when it comes to mobile-PC interaction, staff
are often less than helpful. The txting is absolutely dire, with no
intellegent predictive text and unlike the nokia phones it cannot learn
new words so txts often seem less than personalised. The ringtones are
good on this phone but for the hefty price tag I would invest in different
phone; the look grabbed me, i bought and i have been continuously dissapointed
and frustrated by this phone.

sort of like a conspiracy thing, where the manufacturer (ie Samsung)
'makes sure' that the batteries are out after the warranty period. It's
not only me, my friend who bought the same phone at the same time as

but fails on such basic funtionality. Texting is a joke. With no way
of adding words I'd at least expect a simple way of switching off the
predictive texting. When you do switch off predictive text you still
can't enter a number (you have to change mode for that) - VERY BAD!!
Poor - Battery life, text, games, user logic Good - screen, buttons,
normal telephone use & TORCH Yes it has a built-in torch. The screen
is that bright that i've used it to illuminate locks, door bells and
even a path. OK it wasn't designed for that but try it it works. I've

On Maximum volume, you can't hear the phone if it's in your back pocket.
Outside you have to hold the phone in your hand to be able to hear it.
And there is no way I'm going to wear that phone as a pendant and look
like an idiot in order to use the hands free kit. Texting: To insert
a number into a text involves going to a menu, remembering to press
the correct menu button to get back (or else you loose the text and
then have to start all over again) to the text and then return to the
menu again to turn the text off. Did they go out of their way to make
it infuriating to use? And there's no £ sign. I have never had Nokia

I had the phone for 3 weeks before I realised that unless I got rid
of it quick, it was going to be smashed against the wall. I liked it
initially because of the smooth and crisp feel to the keypad buttons,
blue screen, sound quality, and aesthetic design. Little did I know
that the Korean idiot who designed it thought he was building a flashing
musical dildo! The text messaging is impossible to use. If you leave
the screen, it wipes off everything you wrote, which would have taken
a good 10 mins since, as my man above mentioned, it is awkward to use
and the dictionary does not learn. What's more, you have to flick to
another screen to switch between numeric, predictive, and non-predictive
text formats. So, you can easily find yourself rewriting the same message
over and over if you accidentaly press the wrong button to leave the
screen. The irritating flashing light serves no purpose (unless you're
deaf and cant hear the phone, which defeats the object of having a phone
in t he first place!), except keep you awake at night. The stupidest
feature yet is the persistant text tone/buzzer: IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO
READ YOUR NEWLY RECEIVED TEXT, IT WILL BUZZ AND RING EVERY 60 SECS UNTIL
IT RUNS OUT OF BATTERY OR YOU OUT OF PATIENTCE! Imagine if you're driving,
or are in a meeting, or asleep @4 in the morning!!! Another bad feature
is the clock setup. When you're talking on the phone, the time display
disappears so the only way you can check what time it is, is to hang
up! It has a terrible reception and the menu hirarchy setup is a complete
joke - in some cases you find yourself stuck in a page and unable to
go back to previous page or route menu, unless you cancel and come out
completely. Those who've never owned a desent Nokia phone may give this
more that one star. I've switched to a Nokia 6100 and it's excellent.
Way to go Finland. Korea, switch to making dildos.

I like the style and looks of the phone but, to be frank, I just don't
find it user friendly. I soon got fed up with it once the novelty wore
off. Texting is about the most awkward I've ever found in any phone
( and before anyone says it, I'm not a Nokia 'clone'. I've had several
different makes in the past)and it's inability to learn is really annoying.
I'm fed up with having to manually spell certain words every time I
use them. I've also found it to be generally unreliable. I've had it
for 10 months during which time it's been back for repair twice, and
now the battery's packed up & won't hold a charge. I'm not fussed about
colour screens & polyphonic ring tones. I just want a phone that's reliable
& easy to use and In that respect the T100 falls some way short of the
mark. I've gone back to using my old phone & I intend to get rid of
my T100 as soon as my 12 month contract is up.

Giles, with a name like that he shouldn't be critisizing anything! First
point, this phone was released may 2002 and i have still not heard better
sounding polyphonic ringtones to date (for example the Nokia 7650 polyphonics
are quiet, tinny and c##p unlike the samsung t100 which are loud and
very clear). No MMS but this phone is about a year old now! for a phone
which is a year old in about a week or so it is fighting back the latest
mobiles very well. Samsung has done really well and the V200 will be
even better and no doubt will compete for at least a year after that
is released with other phones. The t9 text messeging is excellent, i
can type messages really quickly its better than an nokia predictive
text-messaging software. Also Giles if you cant find any free images
or polyphonics then you aren't looking hard enough because i have hundreds
of them! What you need (giles) is one of them booklets you get free
with magazines with £1.50 per/min numbers so thick idiots like you (Giles)
can have good polyphonics and images on their phones. people like giles
should only be able to have c##p phones like sagem's and actel's and
c##ppy phones worth less that £50 My advice would be if you have the
money buy the T100 but if you want to go all the way with 65,000 colours
in your screen and 40 polyphonic ringtones then go for the v200 Goodbye
and good luck this information is valuable and listen to it coz its
better information than any sales guy will tell you when he is trying

I have had this phone for about 9 months and I am counting the days
until my contract ends. The plus points are physical design of the phone
is nice in my opinion and the screen is one of the best I have seen.
However the downside of this phone are huge. The software is slow, texting
is a pain (I can't find a way of adding words to the dictionary), if
you want to type a number you have to change texting mode, you cannot
send a phone number out of the phonebook). The polyphonic ringtones
are highly overated and practically inaudable when the phone is in your
pocket. The software make poor use of the colour screen for example
no MMS. The phone cannot be set to beep and vibrate when text arrives.
The vibrate is very weak. The earpiece is very quite so makes calls
difficult to hear in noisy enviroments as I have to have it on loud
just to hear it normally. Oh and the games are shockingly slow (not
really a big issue for me) Giles

at all missed. Must be one of the most frustrating text phones I have
ever owned. If you have owned a Nokia before you will soon realise that
this phone is all about image and not practicality. To me the polyphonic
ring tones are more like a church organ and overrated, the vibra alert
options are limited and can't be set to coincide with the ring tone
from when the phone starts ringing but kicks in half way through. Buy
the time you feel it its switched to voice mail (if you use that facility).
Games are average, struggled to find sites to download freebees or exchanges
and the additional stuff which is supplied with the cd to dl from your
pc is all rubbish, ie flower wall paper and classical music. Also clam
phones are awkward to hold between your shoulder and ear when your hands
are busy, something to think about! Sorry but if you want to look cool

I like this phone, it's got plenty of features and is very compact compared
to the Nokia 7210 I owned previously. ONly one complaint, the predictive
text is pants, no where near as good as Nokia's it only offers about
three words and you cant educate (or in my case corrupt) the built in
dictionary that with Nokia's remembers all the slang/jargon etc that
you use. Come on Samsung, get with the beat and produce a phone with
programmable predictive text!!

Why are people saying this is such a good phone???? For the price you
pay for a phone id expect MMS and this hasnt got it. Its build quality
isnt good, the features are poor, no java, Its slow at menu navigation,
the picture quality isnt very good at all. I think its a poor phone
for the price tag, considering the better phones out there at cheaper
prices, this phone is simply a fashion statement....

Only had the phone 3 days and what a nice bit of tech this phone is.
Fantastic display and ring tones and very easy to operate. Had a 7210
before this one and it was rubbish. Nice one Samsung.

This phone is outstanding. The best I've had. Its clear, simple to use,
easy to follow, excellent memory and stylish. The only down side on
this phone is that it sometimes is slow. Especially when writing SMS
Texts! But overall a fantastic phone. Much better then the Nokia's!

The screen is better than any other I've ever seen, super bright and
clear, it looks like a tv! The only problems I found is that you couldn't
enter words into the dictionary for predictive text and the phone ran
quite slow. The games were unplayable for that reason and it couldn't
keep up with me when writing sms

Some annoying features, like when you enter a word that isn't in predictive
text, the next time you go to write that particular word in a new message,
it doesn't remember it and you have to fiddle around with the English
and ABC button to write the word in all over again....
