Samsung E330 Review
Phone rating:
Review: February 2005.
The Samsung E330 is a dual-display clamshell phone that looks similar
to most Samsung clamshells except that it has an internal aerial. It's
a nice phone to look at and has all the features that you'd expect from
a mid-range camera phone: a medium-sized display with 65,000 colours,
a standard VGA camera, Java games, a quite generous amount of memory,
and dual band. Just two things distinguish the E330 - firstly the addition
of a voice recorder, which can be used to record ringtones, and secondly
the benefit of a handsfree speaker.
It's hard to avoid the word "average" when describing the
E330. Unkinder reviewers might use the word "boring", however
Samsung have made a neat phone that has most of the functionality most
people will need, and phone manufacturers shouldn't be criticised for
that!
Features of the Samsung E330 include:
- Internal display: UFB, 65,536 colours, 128 x 160 pixels
- External display: UFB, 65,536 colours, 96 x 96 pixels
- VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels) with LED flash, 4x digital zoom, night
mode and picture effects
- 40-voice polyphonic ringtones plus recordable ringtones
- Messaging: SMS (with learning T9 support), EMS, MMS
- Built-in handsfree speaker
- Games: 2 embedded Java games
- Wallpaper & screensaver
- Memory: 9 Mbytes (1.5 Mbytes available for Java games)
- Organiser: calendar, scheduler, to do list, clock, worldtime, alarm
(daily alarm, once alarm, weekly alarm, auto switch on), currency
converter, calculator, memo book, stopwatch, countdown timer
- Phonebook (1,000 entries) - displays photos of incoming callers
- Connectivity: RS232 serial port (cable not supplied)
- WAP 2.0, GPRS class 10
- Dual band
- Vibration alert
- Size: 87 x 41 x 23 mm
- Weight: 85g

Small, stylish and slight. Not overloaded with features but what it
does, it does well. It may help those owners who are experiencing short
battery life to follow the manufacturers instructions - for the first
3 charges keep the phone on charge for 12-16 hours. This builds up battery
memory and you should get 4/5 days out of it.

Who buys a phone without checking the features first? If you want a
good basic phone this is great. It would be good to be able to change
the defaults a bit more. I would like to be able to turn off the T9
mode, but I am getting used to using it rather than changing it every
time I text. You have to press and hold the camera button for a long
time to take a photo, so it doesn't take photos by accident. It is small,
looks good, does what I need and it didn't cost a fortune.

Have had this phone for a week now, and am quite pleased with it. Having
previously had a Siemens camera phone i am amazed at the picture quality
on this phone. the only features i think let this phone down are the
VERY poor battery life (2-3 days with little use), and that the exteranl
display doesn't show anything when in screensaver mode; you have to
open up the phone, activating the main screen and keys (using up much
needed battery!) everytime you want to check for any messages or missed
calls. i noticed a couple of other reviewers said you couldn't send
messages to multiple numbers- but you can! overall- a very stylish looking
phone, great camera and easy to use at a very reasonable price.

I got my phone about a month ago and I love it!!! Small and compact,
definitely a bit of a girls phone, but then again, I am a girl, so thats
fine and dandy by me. This is my first camera phone and I think the
quality is pretty good - far better than my boyfriends siemens MC60.
There are some funky ring tones and wallpaper, good screen size and
resolution. It's user friendly, this is my first samsung but I'm finding
it straight forward to use. My only itsy, bitsy complaint would be that
it doesn't vibrate at the same time as ringing. However the ringtones
are definitely louder than my old sony ericsson so I can actaully hear
it ringing (always a bonus with a mobile phone!) So if you want a decent,
not too flashy and techy phone, get this one!!!!

The Samsung E330 looks very nice and has a bright clear screen, however
it has 3 major problems. 1. Compared with Nokia or Sony Erricson phones
the battery life is very poor (2 days per charge). 2. Compared with
Nokia it is very user unfriendly for text messaging! 3. Worst of all
it has a button on the side for taking photos. There is no way to turn
this button off, and every day I end up taking 15-20 black photos of
the inside of my pocket. All I can say is I can not wait to get the
Nokia 6230 I have ordered as a replacement.

that it is more of a 'girls' phone. If you are after a high tech phone
then this isnt for you, but if you want something really small and looks
and performs really well then go get it. The camera is pretty good as
long as the lighting is good, texting is fine once you get used to the
keypad, and i love the fact that the callers face appears on the exterior
screen, very cool. Also the self portrait mode is a great feature. And
be sure to check out the little images that you can assign to your contacts
if you dont have a pic of them, so the image comes on the screen when
they call, but you need to make sure your contacts are saved to the
phonebook to enable this. I definately recommend this phone.

I've only used it for a couple of days but with great usage. If you
want a phone with all the features that are increasingly becoming hyped
up today, then I don't recommend this for you. But if your after a good
phone you can trust to work well, with intuitive usability - then this
is for you. PLUS - it comes with a camera with reasonable resolution
(if you set the level to Super Fine). Text messaging is slightly different
to the way Nokia implements it, but is a transition that should only
take a few days max. Sounds are great, though melodies do leave much
to be desired. You can download animations and images to your liking
with its WAP connection. There is no bluetooth - so if this is a must
for you, then look elsewhere. The actual menu system is fantastically
well done and makes it easy for you to navigate around. There isn't
the notion of profiles like on other phones - this needs some getting
used to if that what you have been using in the past. I have just come
from a Nokia 7210i background, the best phone I have ever used - as
it has been the most usable. Samsung have taken this and updated it
with their own syle. It is a cool phone, but reliable/usable also. So
if thats the kind of phone your after then don't hesitate in buying
it.

phone but was sad to give up my faithful and reliable nokia 3310 but
it went to a good owner - my mum! I have read that some people are having
trouble setting a picture to caller I.D but I've foud out that the way
to do it is to save peoples numbers to the phone rather than your sim
and then go to 'My Photo's', click on 'view' for the one you want in
the multi-pic screen, then click 'options', then go down and click 'set
as' then click 'caller id' and then'find name', find the name you want,
press 'ok' and then VIAOLA! iTS DONE! BUT YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THE
NUMBERS ARE SAVED TO THE PHONE AND NOT THE SIM! You can't get video's
on this phone but you can set voice recordings to multi-media messages
but I am not sure how to do this. I really love this phone so much and
urge all you girly girls to buy one as it's not really a boy phone as
they like lots of gadgets and gizmos on their phones which this phone
doesn't have, like Bluetooth and Sonic or whatever! The ring tones are
cool and so are the alarm tones!

Not really good for me. I dissapointed with the infrared connection.
It didn't synchronize with my computer. I couldn't send any picture
file from my computer to the phone. I also couldn't send my video file
from the phone to the computer. Or anyone has any suggestion for that
problem??

I absolutely hate this phone! I'm gutted that I my phone company actually
call this an upgrade! For the last year I have used a Nokia 7210 and
it was so much more practical - you'd think they got the upgrade the
wrong way round. There are so many reasons not to buy this phone. The
organiser and alarm clock are long-winded and confusing When writing
a text message you have to change to uppercase after every full stop,
if you press the wrong button or take a call you lose the message you'd
written and if you accidentally go to add an extra number to the recipients
list before sending it, you can't come back out again - again, you lose
the text! There are no ringtone composers available and the ringtones
included are awful, so you have to pay a fortune to get one you like
off the net or tv. I could go on but frankly I'm bored (and angry).

I believe that a phone should not be judged just like that. All of these
opinions are purely subjective therefore it's is logical to assume that
the choosing of the phone itself is a subjective process. We all want
different things in a phone and one of the things that I want is ESTHETICS.
I think that for a consumer, such as myself, this phone is perfection.
It's beautiful, you must admit that, but also functional. So there are
no new things, it doesn't have million games and all sorts of interfaces
but what do you need all of those things for. When it comes to basics
phone was not made to be a personal computer, even though they are trying
more and more to convert phones into that. Even if I had some phone
with all possible functions, such as D500, I would still not use all
of them because it would never cross my mind. I use my phone for SMS,
calling and MMS, and I'm a very visual person so 4 ME this phone is
PERFECT. I actually wanted to buy E500 but it still hasn't arrived to
Croatia. You should do a review on SAMSUNG SGH-E500.

I got this phone this morning, and it seems pretty cool. Its small,
lightweight, and looks good (I like the keypad layout). A few small
gripes, mainly the ANNOYING 'ding ding' noise it makes ALL THE TIME!!
When you delete a text, when you send a text, when you do anything!
How on earth you you turn it off?! I'll never be able to text in lectures
at this point! I do like the fact that you can set the 'quiet' mode
to completely silent instead of vibrate tho..... All in all, a positive
response, furthered by the fact that it was free!

I've had this phone now for about 3 weeks and love it. It's my 1st camera
phone and most of the snaps I take are clear as long as the lighting
is good. I love the organiser, loud speaker and picture phonebook. The
only problem I have is when I set the alarm clock. It is so loud it
nearly gives me a heart attack. The only way I have found to turn it
down is to turn down the incoming call volume. However this is a pain
because you keep having to remember to turn it back up on full otherwise
I would miss all my calls. Has anyone else found a way of turning it
down??? This phone is very neat and small although I am still trying
to get used to texting with T9. Don't think there is a way of turning
it off permanently. Or is there??? I would definitely recommend this
phone though and have given it 5 stars!!!

i've had this phone for about 3 months now, after upgrading from a nokia
8310, which i loved. all in all, its a good phone, if you want a phone
with basic features then this is the one for you, altho it lacks radio=(
the camera quality is great and the flash comes in handy, no video tho
which is a bit of a downer. also, despite what many reviewers have said,
i've found the ringtones to be kinda quiet and hard to hear in noisy
places, and the fact that it doesnt ring and vibrate at the same time
(like most nokia's) makes it harder. another bad point is that when
texting theres no way of setting predictive as default, other than that
texting is VERY easy. the front screen is a cool feature, but you can't
change its background- not a major problem tho! i still havnt worked
out how you can set your recordings as ringtones, can anyone who has
this phone help??? anyway, i'm giving this phone 4 stars because its
a good, easy to use phone with a sexy sleek design (very much a ladies
phone in my opinion, lol!) and it has no major disadvantages or bad
points! =)

i was put off buying a samsung mobile after buying the v200 a couple
of years ago as i found the messaging really hard to use. samsung have
completely turned this around and i am glad i bought the E330 as it
is tiny and perfectly designed. i have had loads of phones and none
of them have been as easy to use as this one. its a shame about the
lack of infra red and bluetooth but a data cable can be bought and the
phone can be put on loud speaker. i love the way you can use the front
screen to take photos as well as the main screen and i love the multi
shoot photo function. the flash also comes in useful in low light conditions.
to me the only way this phone could have been improved is if it had
a radio. also this phone seemed really cheap to buy for a samsung as
it was only £116

phone. Newest games cannot be downloaded into this phone. Still prefer
Nokia's rythmic vibration and ring tone at the same time mode. Nokia's
games are better. But stylisitc phone. Worth its value.

The really annoying BING BONG noice that it makes when you send a txt
etc. I can't switch it off!! I realise that if you put the phone on
silent then it goes away but then you can't hear the phone ring. Does
anyone know if this function on its own can be turned off? Please help

Hmm...i got this phone for christmas and i can only think of one word
for it. dull. I was really pleased when i got it because it seemed a
lot like my old baby, the 02X1, which i loved. The camera's usually
good quality but can go fuzzy, and although you can take pics when the
phone is closed the outside display is a little small. No aerial means
the phone is nicely rounded and compact, but compared to all the other
new clamshells coming out it doesnt have too many new features. No radio,
no video and just a pointless random flashing light on the front. The
ringtones are good but i cant think of one part of this phone which
is truly outstanding, although it has got a very large memory space
for messages- but who needs to hold more than 20?

I have owned my E330 for just over a week and I love it. I am used to
changing my phone every six months 'cos I just have to have the latest
gadget. But recently I have become increasingly tired of impressive
"do-everything" phones that actually won't do anything - properly !!
I bought my 330 to replace a Sony Ericsson K700i. Now many of you reading
this will throw up your hands in horror and say "Why did you do that
?". Simple - I want a phone that works as a phone !! I use my phone
constantly for business so I need something functional, reliable, and
fast. That doesn't mean I want something boring. The Samsung suits me
perfectly. It's tiny, really tiny, but the keypad is still incredibly
easy to use and the screen easy to read. The E330 doesn't lock up every
five minutes, the camera is excellent and very easy to use. The phone
book is big enough for even the most popular of socialites. The ringtones
are 'amusing' and further downloads are simple enough. The software
and menu system is simple to navigate and more importantly - fast. The
speaker is loud and clear on handheld and speakerphone and the ringtones
are loud enough to be heard in a busy environment. Yes I'll agree that
Samsung were insane to neglect to include Bluetooth, and that many will
be put off by this. However if you, like me, are sick of buying very
expensive, very impressive phones that on paper are wonderful, but in
practice suffer from software glitches, slow-downs and lock-ups. If
you want a phone that looks good, sounds good, still has a bit of 'Wow'
factor and actually works ALL the time - Get yourself a 330.

If you want a small basic lightweight camera fone and decent battery
life (around 3-4 days standby) then this fone is for you. If you want
bluetooth/infrared/mp3 player/radio then look elsewhere. My 1st Samsung
and I am impressed with the menu navigation, I used Nokia 8210/8310/7210
before. Voice clarity is good and ringtones are loud enough to be heard
in a noisy environment. Ham fisted guys will have trouble texting and
holding the fone with one hand because of the small dimensions. Unlike
Nokia calendar, birthdays do not reappear next year, and you cant set
a reminder 1 day/week/month etc in advance. Otherwise, stylish fone
that has easy to use menu system, with bright clear display.

camera with flash, external screen and a larger internal screen compatible
with 65 000 colours. The only downside to it is the fact that it does
not have bluetooth. But never the less it still is nice and small witha
great design and an Intenna which adds to the looks. It oozes style

its one of the recomended.

u'd expect frm a 'modern samsung fone' Integrated Camera, Flash etc
but unfortunatly no infrared- altho this makes little difference 2 me.
On the plus side it looks very nice!! if thats really wat ure lookin
for, in honesty tho its very similar to the E700! apart from the welcome
extra of a voice recorder!! Probably really not worth the £169
i paid for it but at least its reliable, with few flaws and still small
enough to fit in a shirt pocket! Not bad samsung!
