Sagem MYX-6 review

 Review: August 2003

Rating: 2 stars

In a nutshell: A colour phone with integrated digital camera.

Review

The Sagem MYX-6 has a built-in camera with zoom (up to 4x), timer and a mirror for self-portraits. The camera has a resolution of 640 x 480. Combine the camera with a 65,000 colour display, and the Sagem MYX-6 is a great phone for taking and displaying pictures.

After a few problems with my current phone I decided to go back to the Sagem MyX-6 even though we're in 2009! There's some brilliant features about the Sagem which seem to have laid by the wayside while the 8-10 MegaPixel phones take off. One of these is battery life; the Sagem just goes on forever and ever, I can get about a week with average use and four days with heavy use which is just outstanding. I have had an 8 megapixel touchphone fairly recently (LG) but the battery doesn't compare to this. The screen is still brilliant and the ringtones are definitely loud enough. I'm not really sad enough to browse the internet on my phone for long periods of time, but it manages the quick comple of minute facebook checks absolutely fine. The phone is actually triband and have been plenty of places with it, including clubbing and it has never failed me signal or battery wise for getting home. I would strongly suggest looking back at the older models of phones that have been tossed into the landfill (or end up on eBay) because many are still really good including this one. 5 stars.

i got this phone in 2000 and have bought 4 phones since and i still believe the Sagem MYX-6 was the best. The picture quality is fantastic, the ringtones are very high quality and you can use your own voice recordings as ringtones too. The only reason i bought a new phone was because technology had moved on and like everyone else i wanted a mobile that could record videos aswell as the basics. I am now thinking about putting my sim card back in this phone and usng it again, it is simple, reliable and has everything I need. I strongly recommend this phone to anyone.

This phone is absolutely fantastic and I would recommend it to anybody --- except the ignorant people who insist and assume that Nokia are the best --- because they don't deserve this phone. I compared the features on this phone with many of my friends and found they matched or excelled the features of their phones. The built in camera is good, although on the move you have to ensure you do not move the phone in the slightest or you will end up with a line through your picture, or it will go fuzzy. The large backlit screen is a great feature and pictures looks great on it. The SMS and MMS feature is simple to use, and although the built in games aren't great, it costs only £1.50 to download a new game via your phone without expensive call charges. The only problem I can think of with this phone is how it looks. Sure, it's silver and shiny, but the buttons are far too thin and to be honest the handset looks like a hi-tech brick. If you don't care about the looks that much, thi s phone would be a wise investment.

For the price, this phone is an absolute steal. I have had mine for about 3 months now and had no problems at all. The main selling point is the camera, which has a 4x zoom, adjustable lighting and fantastic resolution. It is very user friendly and has all the usuals such as good polyphonic tones, wallpapers, screensavers etc. You can also download games, which are good to play due to the huge screen. At the moment you can get it from the orange website for #79.99 with free text saver. What more do you want????

Been a loyal Nokia fan for years, but latter models seem to be a bit on the flashy, teenage riented design, so I wanted to give others a chance. First came the Motorola T720i, average unit until the screen when dead on me (had to turn it off, pull out the battery, put it back on and turn it on again everytime it happened), so traded in for a Sony Ericsson T610, best looking phone ever, small, full of functions...but... the OS is way too slow, the camera is worst than may PC´s Logitech internet camera, the screen is useless in strong daylight and the worst of it, poor reception. I was ready to go back to the bulky, feature-less Nokias when I came across the Sagem X-6, at first thought it was an asian cheapo, but then grab a demo unit, check out the gadgets and I was truly impressed, bought it and been hapily using it for last 3 months, the camera is the best on the mobile market, the OS is clean, fun and fast, the potential is tremendous when connected to a PC (no longer need to pay for extra tone rings, pics or scrs), using my portable pc´s infrared I was able to record my own tones rings using the latest music, I was able to create my own screensavers and wallpapers, the thing is amazing, it supports JPG, GIF, animated GIF, Wav, Midi and a couple more, so you´re set on your way to own a unique profiled phone. The reception is great, I´ve travelled to France, Spain and the Americas and signal was strong and clear everywhere, so my advice to you is to try this phone, you won´t regret it, ever. Oh!, the brand is french by the way, they built phones, adsl modems and defense systems for aircraft, so I guees they´re not technologically challenged ;)

READ THIS REVIEW TO SUMMON YAW UP! Look you are probably reading this because all the other reviews you have read dont quite tip the boat with you about 'trusting sagem', but may i just say that this phone is absolutely outstanding. The picture quality on the phone is fantastic and is in fact better than all other phones on the market, even the Sony erricson P900 which is no way as good quality AND THAT PHONE IS VERY PRICEY! i know this because i have compared my phone to almost every other person with a camera phone at college (and that is alot). People are also quite outstanded when they see the quality... but anyway enough bout the camera now the phone... The phone is by far the best phone i have ever had, some people said the keys were hard to use, trust me they are actually very easy, i dont make any mistakes when texting. The memory on the phone is around 2.6mb... sounds small but the pictures actually save at around 30-40kb (high res) and around 7kb (low Res i.e no loss of picture quality just doesnt look big on a pc screen when transferred!) so in actual fact you could save alot of pictures on the phone and still have space for sounds etc.. Now thats a point! the sounds... You get all the basic c### they usually include on a sagem, but you have the advantage of a sound recorder. The recorder DOES record sounds load enough from a source but there are some techniques to record in good quality. i.e record close to the speaker, but have the volume fairly low, this will result in less distortion. I have recorded 'forget about dre' (dr dre + eminem) and some dizzee rascal stuff and it sounds great. The games are infusio not j ava, but if you are on orange you can get games like 'terminator' 'crash bandicoot' and 'south park' for £1.50 a pop, not bad but you have to pay 50p for each new level you want (ouch!). I think i have covered the main selling points of the phone but also i must point out that it has infra red also, this has come in very handy when wanting to transfer picture to/from your pc the cable costs £15 on dabs or ebuyer (i forget which...) and has done the trick for me when i wanted to get new backgrounds for free just search uk mobile phone forums for help with free stuff!. Well i think i wrapped up it all hear... nothing left to say but buy the phone! go now! im not messin around! Cost: £99 on orange.co.uk

This is a great phone!! 5star! ***** I just recieved this phone yesterday and I am VERY pleased with it, it is on Orange PAYG and was purchased from orange.co.uk for only £99.99 with a free Text Saver! Great camera quality 640x480 CCD lens. I am also very impressed with the quality and size of the 65k colour screen, i used to have a Nokia 3510i which I payed £140 for and it is rubbish compared to the myX-6! Great Phone, Great Style *****.

Great phone. If you're not interested in playing Java games THIS IS A MUST BUY. Anyway, certain network providers will allow you to download infusio titles instead. Chech out Vodafones Sagem MYV-65 solution which does support java scripting due to the fact that vodafone does not share infusio games. -Best camera pics I've seen on a mobile phone (uses digital zooming too... don't confuse that with optical} -MASSIVE DISPLAY with several lines of texting and magnification -Nice size and weight considering that HUGE display. -Good at making those who don't own one jealous.

I've had the phone a couple of weeks now, and I'm really pleased with it. As a phone it's very usable - good reception, easy to find numbers in the contact list, good volume - the only thing I miss is the one-key dialling I was used to on Nokias. The display is really bright and clear, and it's BIG. Texting is straightforward, apart from the small buttons that everybody complains about - not quite as good as the Nokia 7250, but better than the Sony Ericson T610 or the Samsung V200. Ringtones are a blast - I record music off the PC or the stereo for mine - and it's free! The camera quality is about the best of any current phone, which is to say it's totally useless compared to the cheapest digital camera, but is just the job for that snap in the pub. I find the menus pretty straightforward - a few people have complained about needing to press the green call key to unlock the display - look in Settings, Others, Energy saving, Eco mode and you can alter that. I like it, it stops the phone calling emergency numbers in your pocket. The build quality seems adequate, if not outstanding, and I'm not convinced by the styling, but those are my only gripes. Compared to its most obvious rivals - the T610, the V200 and the 7250i - I think it's got better features and performance - and it's cheaper. What are you waiting for?

Unlike some people i don't have a prob with the joypad or the size of the buttons. the problem i have is that the phone crashes. Since this fone isn't very old i'm a bit miffed. has any1 else experienced this?(goerdielass_20@yahoo.co.uk) The foto quality is excellent tho and i wouldn't change this fone for anything. So far this phone has been fantastic. Bu! Where do you get the data cable (any websites?). Also I live in a very low part of the UK. My old Sony T68i was a complete failure. Everone I know says that the French manufacturer Sagem are terrible but I think otherwise. I also uses to have a Sagem My 3088 and it was terrible! 1. Is the Sagem My X6 as good as the Nokia 7250i? One of the best cameras in a phone I have seen to date. My g/f has the T610 and the quality of that is poor compared to the X6, she now wishes she had this also. One negative thing I would say is it the casing does'nt seem that sturdy, I would half expect it to easily break should I ever drop it.

slightly impressive is all i'm saying for the moment. good points if ure on orange cause you can download games from infusio which have some decent graphics.trouble is you have to keep paying 50p to download new levels and you dont get that many to start with. text is good with large letters but the animations that you send with messages are too small and very basic like the type you get on an old phone. i'll give the standby time credit even if it did last four days whileist playing games and taking pics(though the phone was turned off at night and sometimes during the day) now the main important aspect of why i brought this phone was for the camera. average quality overall with standard images(ones that are close up in focus)being displayed quite well BUT as soon as i zoom in x2 or x3 the pic starts getting blurry and blocky ESPECIALY when you use the zoom from the editor options the picture looks distorted. plus when it overwrites the changes you've made e.g.(brightness/contrast) the picture's quality decreases.dunno why but it just does! anyone feel the same about the camera? looking at the myx6 it aint a bad phone as it goes but i suppose sagem could have improved the screen resolution and the pixels would have enchanced the picture quality. but who cares its not exactly a kodak so you cantexpect too much camera wise but its ok i guess for a mobile. anyway enjoy it while you can! or if you cant get a gx20!

Nokias polyphonics are nothing if you want them go to www.mysagem.co.uk and get wallpapers screensavers, and the best ringtones ever. this phone is an absolute must have, at only 120 pounds. 10/10

a few questions: (people can email me on razanelli@aol.com- cheers) 1) it doesnt have a flash. how are pictures in the dark? 2) text messages. how many characters are there? i heard it only allowed 80 instead of the usual 160. 3) text message alerts- does it beep twice like nokia's or beep continously? (may seem like a bit of a dodgy question but if i left my phone at home the battery could be running out in theory- just because someone has sent a text and it continues to beep). i'd really appreciate some answers, as i dont want to buy any phone yet, until after i've got these queries out of the way. thanks. much appreciated.
