Panasonic TX-40CX680B review

 Review: September 2015

Rating: 4 stars

In a nutshell: The Panasonic TX-40CX680B is an excellent UHD (4K) TV that has plenty to offer the discerning viewer. Its top features are probably its truly excellent picture quality and superb Smart TV functionality. It's nice-looking too, and quite well priced when you consider the quality of the TV.

The Panasonic TX-40CX680B is the 40-inch version of the 50-inch TX-50CX680B we reviewed in full detail earlier.

In summary, it's an excellent 40-inch UHD (4K) TV with an attractive modern design, and outstanding picture quality, with good UHD upscaling, and very bright and vivid images, thanks to Panasonic's "Super Bright" technology. Motion control is excellent too, and viewing angles are much wider than Samsung's Series 6 televisions. The only thing missing is 3D.

Smart TV is excellent too, with access to Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, YouTube and Freeview Play (BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4 and Demand 5).

The 40CX680B is priced lower than the 40CX700B, which also offers 3D viewing, but it's still pricey for a 40-inch TV. Ideally, we'd like to see the price drop to around £600.

PANASONIC VIERA TX40CX680B vs Samsung UE40H6400?

I've exactly the same dilemma. Any wisdom much appreciated!

Both are outstandingly good TVs, and they are both real bargains now. The Panasonic has the advantage of 4K and superior picture quality - thanks to its Super Bright screen and wider viewing angles. The Samsung has 3D and is cheaper. If 3D isn't an issue, we'd pay the extra and go for the CX680.

LOL, as soon as we get our hands on one! Probably in a couple of weeks.
