Panasonic TX-39AS500B review

 Review: June 2014

Rating: 3 stars

In a nutshell: The Panasonic TX-39AS500B Smart TV is ideally sized for an apartment or any space where a 42 inch TV would be too big. It's good value, but be aware that there are just 2 HDMI connections.

Review

The Panasonic Viera TX-39AS500B is a bargain Smart TV that's just the right size for an apartment, or any room where a full-size family TV would be too large. The 39 inch version of the AS500B is exactly the same as the 42 inch model apart from the screen size, so read our review of that for more information.

The 39A400B is the same as the 39AS500B, but is missing the Smart TV functions and Wi-Fi connectivity.

I do not understand Which magazine's put-down of this TV. I have one connected to a Sky box and the picture I get is more than acceptable. I watch and record all the southern hemisphere rugby from Sky Sports and have never had cause for complaint about either picture or sound. I also do not experience any problems with watching the TV from an angle - indeed some friends have said how good the picture is!
Rugby is a fast and complicated game for a TV to keep up with. With this TV I can see clearly all the action of rucks and mauls. There is never any pixellation, the colour is good and the picture is sharp. Even the sound, the aspect that Which is most critical of, is excellent. This could be because it is connected to a Sky box rather than the built-in Freeview tuner. It is also connected, WiFi, to a Gigaclear fibre-to-the-house router which gives over 100Mb.
I have no hesitation rating this TV highly the way I use it. It is great, great value.
