Panasonic TX-32A400B review

In a nutshell: The Viera TX-32A400B is the cheapest television in Panasonic's 2014 range and is a bit of a bargain. It's a 32 inch TV with good looks and a built-in Freeview HD tuner and is ideal for a bedroom.
Design & looks
For a budget TV, the Panasonic Viera TX-32A400B isn't at all bad-looking. The narrow bezel surrounding the screen gives it a light, modern feel, although the glossy black finish and square stand won't make it an ideal piece of furniture for every room. In the right setting though, it will look modern and stylish.
The TV comes with a standard remote control and is rated A+ for energy efficiency.
A 32 inch screen is ideal for a bedroom, perhaps for use with a games console. The Panasonic TX-32A400B certainly gives you a good result for very little cost.
It's not a full HD screen, having a resolution of just 1,366 x 768, but on a 32 inch screen that's hardly a problem. The screen has good dynamic range, on a par with Samsung's Series 5 models. Motion resolution isn't the finest, with motion interpolation at just 100Hz, but this is less noticeable here than in the 42 inch version of the A400B.
Overall, we'd say that the picture quality is good when you consider the low cost.
Audio quality isn't the best, with the twin speakers struggling to develop any real bass tones. The power output of 5W x 2 is less than most rival TVs, and despite the V Audio simulated surround sound effect, the audio experience is less than immersive. Then again, if this is used as a second TV in a bedroom, the lack of audio punch might be a bonus for the house's other occupants! Plug the TV into a hi-fi or speaker system for best results.
There are no Smart TV features on this TV.
The A400B comes with just 2 HDMI connections, one with ARC compatibility. There's also a USB port for plugging in a digital camera or other device, plus component and SCART inputs for connecting to older AV equipment. A Freeview HD tuner is built in.
Normally we would say that 2 HDMI inputs is not enough, but given that this is likely to be used as a second television, and the fact that it has built-in Freeview HD, the lack of connectivity options may not be such a big problem.
Conclusion - a good second television
We wouldn't recommend the 32A400B as a main TV unless money or space are very limited. A 32 inch TV isn't really big enough for family viewing, and the fact that there are just 2 HDMI ports limits the number of devices that can be connected. However, as a second TV, perhaps in a bedroom, the Panasonic is a decent option.
It's hard to argue with the Panasonic's price. At around the £250 mark it's an absolute steal and we recommend it. But you should also check out Samsung's Series 5 TV that offers Full HD for a few pounds more.

Trying to connect Bose soundbar with optical connection - it seems that the sound on the TV needs to be off. I cannot find the option on the menus.
Why does my Panasonic never turn on after 24 hours left off?
