O2 X3 review

 Review: January 2005

Last updated October 2005

Rating: 3 stars

In a nutshell: The O2 X3 is O2's best phone yet and is available exclusively on the O2 network.

Review

On paper at least the O2 X3 is an outstandingly well-specified phone for its price. The 262,000 colour internal display is one of the best amongst mid-range camera phones and the 1.3 megapixel camera with video capability is outstanding, although it can be quite tricky to get it to take good pictures. The capability is certainly there, but it is perhaps not as easy to take good pictures as with a Sony Ericsson K700i for example.

The X3 also features an MP3 player. O2 have provided the "O2 Digital Music Player", which is a service allowing you to download tracks from O2. O2 Active provides ringtones, games, etc, but of course all of this content has to be paid for!

The X3 comes with a 16 Mbyte card, which is reasonable, but which can be upgraded if you want more space for storing videos or MP3 tracks.

The biggest downside is the poor battery life, plus there have been problems with reliability reported by users. Still, this is a much better phone than the O2 X1 or X2 and the newer O2 X4 builds on this success and takes the O2 range into the realm of 3G technology.

Assuming you read and flourished through the specifications of this mobile phone, and judging by it's true quality and the performance of each feature - i AM dissapointed by this model. The design is not very luscious for. Although smaller than expected, which is good for storage and even more comfortable holding it, the buttons look very plain and vintage. When you press the buttons, they are very 'clicky' but slow and just imagine if you have this phone for 4 years and how slow and annoying(!) these buttons will have become - Yep, I can't be bothered to text any more unless I want to write to my girl friend. Ok now, the camera which is supposedly the main exciting feature of this phone. Did my mouth drop if I remember; errrr - maybe I was too shy to express how 'sooo NOT 1.3M PIX' this shot is supposed to be. The picture was rather blurry and always turned into a 'greenish' tint when the shot was taken - that annoyed me at first. The zoom thing was a joke. Hey O2, I think you should change that name of the 'zoom' button into a 'get more blurrier' button - Yep you got it, and I never use the button too. The design of the camera is very awkward - it gets light in a very unsymmetrical way; that mean s that more light will come through the middle making your face look fatter. The only good thing about the camera is that of the options available and trust me, that's about it. Yea alright, alright the 262K screen wasn't that bad, BUT ONLY IF YOU GET PICTURES THROUGH THAT HASSLING USB PORT WHICH YOU CONNECT THROUGH YOUR PC, INSTALL THE DAMN PROGRAM, LOAD IT UP, ADJUST A FEW STUFF, CHANGE THE PICTURE AND THERE YOU GO, IT'S IN YOUR PHONE and do you know how freaking long that takes? Otherwise, don't bother with the 262K feature if you're taking pictures. Yeah yea,the polyphonic ringtones and all that stuff was like Nokia 3510i, nothing surprising. The games were average. The gaming compatibility was average. The controls were pretty good and here's the blast - the gameplay is below average. With the annoyance of the keypad and the interface of the games, it really didn't excite any of my buddies. I went back to play my 3510i games. The multimedia messaging was too slow; it couldn't even send pictures to other phones and can only get pictures from it's similar brand phones - WTH is with that??? The phone is too lazy, Hell, the infrared port can't even work. The internet was boring. Scratch that - this PHONE made the WAP boring. I couldn't even download videos. 3G? If that's what I read just now, it is NOT real. The only fascinating feature about this phone is the video; even for an average user like me, this phone is pretty impressive on the video. The sound quality is pretty good. The swiftness of each frame in the capture is sweet. I know this review is alittle long, but this just shows how much I was urging this 200 phone to be the BEST phone on the market considering that it is a private phone. All in all, I just use it now for making calls, alarm and ... that's about it. Notice that I just said 'making calls'. I'm sorry O2 but I'm the customer: This phone has developed some sort of problem that I can't even receive SOME calls. Regardless of what the problem maybe I have to conclude that this phone, even in average usages, is a unreliable phone - a disspointment to such a highly praised brand company. Never again will I buy a phone like this... Not even a year later and it is playing up. Constantly turning off, and refusing to charge off the mains. It turns off AT LEAST 8 times a day now. O2 are useless with helping too which doesnt make things any better. Even during phone calls, during sendig a text, answering phone calls, and making phone calls it turns off. Extremely annoying... This is the second O2 X3 I have had in under two years. I had to send the previous one back as it gave up. Word of advice: NEVER buy this phone... ever. A load of junk.

In December I will have had this phone 2 yrs. I managed to send 1 picture message and none ever since. I eventually bought an x4 to replace it but next day went back to the x3 and just use the x4 for sending pic messages. Cons of the x3 are the poor quality outer screen, the poor 1.3m pixel camera (although 640x480 is adequate), and the dingdong message tone. But I can live with those downers. It does (RARELY) switch itself off but nothing to seriously trouble me. The mp3 player is brilliant (get ureself a 1gb minisd card- I have two of em) and you'll get LOADS of songs on. It's greatest feature - the video recording quality is AWESOME. CIF 352x288 30fps resolution is SUPERSMOOTH!!.( My friend has just bought the cybershot 3.2m pixel fone but its video is 176x144 15fps). I have two 1gb minisd cards full of songs n videos, a nice case and spare battery. If you go to the BENQ site you can download an s700 (the x3's old name) video converter that converts video files into mp4 w hich u can then put on your minisd card and play them on ure x3. Also the fact that this fone is very small(compared to bricks like RAZR) and looks gorgeous makes it good enough for me. I'll replace it eventually no doubt but for now all the fones i've looked at have poor video recording so I'm sticking with the x3.

The O2 X3 delivers an outstanding appearance, it is smart and professional, the camera position makes the phone genuine, it is rather disappointing that we cannot change the covers to our liking, but it's a good size and a reasonable weight. On the front, it contains a small screen that is excellent for reading messages on and finding out the time without having to open the phone up. When we open it up, we see a flat and small keypad, that makes it difficult to get used to, you have to refer to the user guide if you are unsure about what each key means, the layout of the keyoad is organized, the screen is very small, but it does have good graphics, and you can choose what you want on your screen. This includes the time/date, signal, battery power, all the relevant details you need are displayed on the screen. There are a reasonable amount of profiles all of which you can modify. The MP3 player has not yet been tested due to the fact that it will not accept WMA files, which is very disappointing. This phone has the ability to send and recieve text and media messages, it has a very good internet connection, you can find out details about all the incoming and outgoing calls that have been made, the phone is capable of storing up to 500 contacts, and an extra hundred offered from the sim, it has a good reasonable camera that is suitable only in the light, you are given a free game with the phone that is helps to burn time, you can store all your images and videos in the media centre, including ringtones, Generally this phone is acceptable.

This is the worst phone I have ever had. After using various Nokia's quite happily for the last 7 years or so, I was persuaded to try the X3. Within 1 month of receiving it, it would constantly give me a "Channel Busy" message whenever I tried to make a call - compounded by the fact that no-one could call me either - all they got was a message saying the 'mobile number is unavailable'. The only way to get around this was to switch it off and back on again. Occaisionally I would receive a text and it wouldn't stop vibrating - the only way to stop it would be to switch it off and back on again. Whilst playing a game, it would regularly 'lock up', the only way to deal with this would be to remove the battery and start all over again. After having the phone for about 3 months, it started to switch itself off for no reason whatsoever, and it wouldn't charge itself either. Last week we rang O2 to try and exchange it - let's just say their customer services dept. a) Don't know an awful lot about customer services b) Have never heard of the Provision of Goods and services Act and c) Wouldn't recognise an offer to increase O2's business if it jumped up and whacked them on the back of the head. O2 shop staff are a bit more helpful (Because they can't run away and hide), but to charge a 25 deposit for a temporary replacement phone while they offer to repair it is not very satisfactory really - all you want is a new phone that works - and one that's NOT an X3! My advice? Go straight to O2 customer complaints and quote the Provision of Goods and Services Act at them - demand a new phone and don't stop until you get one.

It is much, much louder than Sony Ericssons coveted W800i. Anyway, enough talk about the mp3 player. It's 1.3MP camera is stil one of the best around today, and its video quality on Q-CIF is absolutely excellent. The only downside to this phone in my mind is the fact that it hasn't got Bluetooth. Hey I just wanted to say this phone may sound good with its mp3 player, 1.3 mega pixel camera and all but its a useless phone. As you may of heard it has annoying problems such as freezing, turning itself off and vibrating too long. Some people say these barely happen but to my o2 x3 it happens nearly everyday. I was excited when I first got the phone as it had an mp3 player but i soon found out you have to buy a separate adapter to allow you to get mp3 songs from your computer to this phone. Due to the memory I was only able to store 10 videos. Dont know if thats just my phone but it bugged me. The phone does not have bluetooth and ive used the infa red which wouldnt even let me receive one song. Also if you go on the internet through ur phone its a waste of time. Its so slow and although it says ur phone is compatable with some stuff i wasnt able to download an image and a song. Texting was another problem. If you are using predictable text and try to type 0 you cant it thinks you mean space. Sometimes when I am texting it will just freeze or turn off which means you have to start again. So in conclusion dont buy this phone unless you want to waste time and money.

What is wrong with some people. ok you may have had some things wrong with your X3's but i have mine for nearly a year now and i'm kinda thinking you may be over exagerating a bit. yes i admit my phone has done all of the things you are copmplaining about... for example turning off for no reason, vibrating for too long etc. but not often.... i think in the whole year i have had it it has done the vibrating thing twice, and all you have to do is turn it off and it stops, and the turning off thing it did it for a day, but that was cus i had got it wet the day before, just be patient and don't slate it and it will fix. every phone has some problem during the time u have it. if u kick off and start over reacting then u wont enjoy the phone, the only reason i am giving it 4 and not 5 is because i think the infa red cud be improved. and more calender space. i also found the 'ding dong' message tone annoying at first but i have got used to it and love it! those who are complaining that there are poor ringtones... are u aware that u can record ur own ringtones????? just stop over reacting and stop slating this phone. i would recommend it as i think it is a good phone. it had great memory and the picture quality is good, it doesn;t shrink the pictures and my only fault on camera quailty is it isn't great at night. overall an excellant phone though.

I got this phone after being guaranteed by the guy at O2 that their O2 X range problems had now been fixed by new manufacturers and that I wouldn\'t experience half the problems I\'d had with the X1. How wrong could I have been to spend yet more money on O2 and their rubbish range of phones. After three months the phone constantly vibrates, the inner and outer screens scramble regularly and then when it feels like it, it turns itself off. Do not be fooled by O2 salesman jargon - this phone is as bad as the rest of the O2 range. Poor.

I have gone into the store about 2 days ago to get my 'repaired phone' to find out they had sent me a brand new handset, and, as i think most people would be, i was excited thinking that it was going to work and be the end of all my problems. I could not have been more wrong. Put my sim in, turned it on, and it turned itself off in seconds. I tried this six times with different batteries, all before i had even left the store. And to top it all, i was told by 02 that i should expect this!!!! I am pretty sure that nobody expects a brand new handset to turn itself off. Bloody angry with 02 and there s**t phones. I am currently trying to get a new handset off them, off a different make,e.g. motorola, or my money back. No offense to any1, but you are a fool if you read these reviews, then go and purchase one thinking that i am not telling the truth. 02 should take some time to read these. Don't even bother. For #99, i thought i was on to a bargin, i cuold not have been more wrong. Problems include: 1. non stop vibrating. 2. Poor quality camera. 3. charger never seems to work properly. 4. predictive text is pathetic. 5. freezing on a regular basis, especially when using java applications. 5. Unresponsive keypad, you prees the 3 button 3times, it only has one 3 on the screen. This also causes problems when you try and top up or register a top up card, as you are prompted to press 1 then when you do, nothing happens no matter how many times you press it. Good points in clude the mp3 player, which is of exceptional quality for a phone. Also, if you have already purchased this phone, and are experiencing problems, don't bother taking it to the o2 shop, they will say that you have to hand over #25 for a loan phone while yours is sent for repairs. And, looking at some of the reviews on the internet, the repairs are often faulty and yoyr phone comes back in a poor condition. I would highly reccomend other phones, such as the samsung D500, although they are very pricy, you do pay for quality. Most reviews for the D500 are rated 5 star. I DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS PHONE TO ANYONE< IF YOU HAVE #100 AND WANT A PHONE< STAY CLEAR OF THIS PHONE< AND THE OTHER O2 PHONES IN THE RANGE EXCLUSIVE TO O2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had this phone for about a week and decided to send it back. I loved the look of it and I didnt think the camera was as bad as some people say but I just didnt find it that user friendly. It doesnt tell u how many characters u have used so u only find out how many messages ur gonna be sending when u go to send it then u have to go back and delete some if u only wanna send it in one text and keep doing that untill it says it'll send in one text so that was a bit annoying. it doesnt tell u how many messages u have in ur inbox either. I wasnt very impressed with the battery life, i had to charge it practically every day, fair enough its a new phone so i used it quite a lot but even when i didnt it still ran down pretty quick. The texting was different to a nokia and not as easy but it just takes some getting used to. However, u cant change the message tone and its a really annoying ding dong like a door bell! it also wouldnt stop vibrating when i got a text once and i had to t urn it off to stop it. It also wouldnt reply to some people when i got a text i had to exit it and write a new one and send it that way, altho it does save messages that dont send but since i spend my life texting it was a bit annoying! The ringtones werent that impressive either, there were only about 10 and mostly of songs i hate but u can buy more so thats not a huge problem. They r really the only problems i had but after hearing so many other people with other problems i thought id send it back while i still had the chance before any more developed!

I got this phone for my birthday back in November, and three months on, I still have no major complaints. In my case, it didn't keep turning itself off the way some have described, which was excellent because my previous Nokias all ended up doing so, and it drove me mad. Anyway, I don't think either the camera or video recorder is amazing - but it is a camera phone! Bearing that in mind, and considering the relatively low price, I think these features are pretty admirable. The thing with the miniSD adaptor was admitedly a pain , and would be my only real gripe with the phone. Having said that, while I still believe o2 or whoever the seller is should make it clear that this issue exists prior to selling the phone, it ends up not costing that much more anyway - 35 for 512MB of memory in my case. if they would inform customers that you need to buy this - or offer to supply it then and there, even if it is at extra cost - then that would be much more helpful. Anyway, the MP3 player is, in my opinion, of good quality, and I especially liked the fact you can use MP3s as ringtones. I find the menu easy to use and like the fact that you can use any photo on either of the screens whether you took it with the phone or uploaded it from the computer. In my opinion, the screens display things very well. The phone book could be better - I preferred the 'name and number' feature on Nokias - but could be a lot worse; ultimately, it's not difficult to find what you're looking for. Browsing the web is extremely easy and the large, colour screen makes everything very clear. Writing text messages can be a bit slow, but if you play with it for long enough, you can work out ways of speeding the process up. One thing I don't like is that it's takes a lot of time to capitalise words (unless you type the whole thing in capitals, of course), but it's not a hugely important issue and I imagine many people wouldn't care that much at all. All in all - a few tiny issues, and the whole lack of information re: the miniSD card, are niggling annoyances, and that is why I'm not giving the phone 5/5. However, on the whole, I've found it to be a user-friendly, entertaining and highly stylish phone, so overall, I'd give it a big thumbs-up.

Looks the business both in the flesh and on paper, I got this as a free upgrade and couldn't wait to receive it. So imagine my horror when I try using it. It doesn't have predictive text, just a far worse ITAP system, the 1MP camera only works in sunny conditions (and badly even then). The keypad is terrible, and I had a sagem my x7 before which has a bad keypad, yet this means you're always hitting the wrong letter when texting. Its unresponsive, slow and I have to say that luminous blue keypad is headache inducing at night. 1 star. Sold it after just 3 days.

Simply an excellent phone for the money. There have been problems with early firmware on this phone but if you are getting a new one now these are issues have been fixed. The Mp3 player does require you have an SD card reader in your PC/laptop (if not you can get one for 10-20) and miniSD adaptor. Fortunately these come free with new mini SD cards and if you want to use the player much you'd be getting a larger storage card anyway. A 512MB miniSD is from 35 new (which is what I paid not "over 50"). This will allow a fair few albums worth on your phone with some videos too. Uploading and changing videos and mp3s was very simple - just copy and paste. Player quality is excellent and I can leave the ipod at home. The screen is very high quality, putting your own images on either screen is easy with the data cable supplied. The overall design is mini and the of course clam design (nice neon blue lightup keypad but MUCH smaller than the Motorola V3 razor-block). The external screen is good for quickviewing incoming text messages and has a nice feature of quick calendar view. You can answer and end calls just by opening the clam (or turn this feature off) and has photo caller id. Clam design also means no more calling Australia for an hour by accident! The camera is however not a good one. I wouldn't recommend you get it if that's all you really want. I'm very glad I didn't listen to the nay-sayers:95% of what they seem to say is totally INACCURATE. For example screen poor: it is one of highest pixel quality screens you will find 262k colour, so no idea! Poor ringtones: download a new free midi ringtone or use one of your Mp3s as a ring tone. Again no idea! It's broken: get a replacement with new firmware. Type *#300# the latest firmware is 1.22.01. IR doesn't work: it does but it can only RECEIVE ir. rtfm. The OS/menus are difficult: this as easy as your going to get. In fact, I cant imagine it being any simpler with great big colour icons and idiot-proof questions and prompts. Obviously if you are used to only one phone make you will need to relearn some things if technology isn't your thing. Consider the options before you buy.

On paper it's features sound great but when you use the phone it's not so great. The operating system is rubbish and the megapixal camera is one of the worst I've come accross on a phone, I previously owned a Samsung D410 and the picture quality was far better. This phone was sent back to O2 after one day and after a bit of haggling I got a V3 for 50. The V3 has a far lesser spec than the X3 but it does everything far better. Really don't buy this phone, if you want the spec get a Samsung D500 which you can get for the same price!

This phone, well I thought it had been withdrawn off the market and I wasn't suprised. Unfortunately I was wrong. I've had three of these phones, each time having to take it back after a month or so. I got my first one for Christmas and I was like 'Wow, it's brilliant. It's got everything I could possibly need, bar the Bluetooth and FM radio'. Two weeks later it stopped charging up. Fair do's, maybe I'd dropped it, but I returned it and got a replacement. This time I made sure I was careful with it. Then I noticed a white spot on the camera when in indoor mode. This was a bit unusual and a bit of a nuisance, but that was okay. When I uploaded the so called '1.3 MegaPixel' images to my computer, they were grainy and faded. A month or so after I got it, the camera when on indoor mode would randomly blackout, then whiteout. I took it back and got a replacement of the same phone, hoping to be third time lucky. The same errors started occuring again, and it stopped displaying some images. The video quality of this phone when in CIF/QCIF mode is excellent, but that is the only thing I miss. I have recently purchased a Nokia 6230 and recommend it, a phone with all the features of this phone and more, if you are willing to lose the clamshell design and 262k colour screen (reverting to the more commonly used 64k colour TFT). I have bought a Bluetooth dongle and have had no trouble uploading mp3s and videos to this phone. Whatsmore, the expandable memory card (32Mb comes with the phone) costs over 50 for a 512Mb miniSD, the O2 X3's kind, but only 40 for a MMC of 1GB, the Nokia 6230's variety. A 512Mb MMC can be bought for as little as 20.

The o2 x3 is a good phone and comes with a fair share of features, however its not the 'brilliant' phone that its made out to be on paper. Physically, its a very nice looking phone and I like the whole design of it. Not too big, not too small, nice look and nice blue light for the buttons. You have plenty of buttons which provide instant access to the calender, mp3 player, txts and camera. The phone comes with a software cd, as well as the 32mb card. The external screen is cool in the sense that you can set animated wallpapers- and on a lot of phones you can only have still pictures as the wallpaper. BUT the colours to me look 'washed out' and if you set a picture as the wallpaper, it is so small its just not worth it. The internal screen is much more bright and sharp. I can see why some would say the menu systems are dull, but to me they are fine. You can make plenty of adjustments to the phone which I find is always helpful and it has all the basic (yet still very important) organiser features. Someone mentioned texting was very slow- I have to disagree-I find it to actually be quite fast and have had no problems with it. Now on to the multimedia capabilities of the phone- I was eager to try out the '1.3megapixel' camera. Firsly to be clear to anyone considering buying the phone- this is not the quality you would expect. The good point about the camera is that a lot of camera phones are motion sensitive- this appears to move very smoothly indeed. But even after putting the camera on its highest quality setting (which has to be changed every time bcos the phone does not remember your settings), the camera is hopeless in low light conditions and again suffers the 'washed out' colours and grainy image problem. The flash is useless too and the pictures are by no means sharp and full of colour. You have to be careful not to let pictures build up- because at no point are you asked whether you want to save the picture or not, the phone does it automatically for you. This going thru and deleting many unwanted pictures, which can be very frustrating. The video camera with the edition of the memory card can record for long amounts of time and is actually quite good quality depending on conditions. General sound quality on the phone is good. You can also record your own ringtone. However, the playback sound quality for this is quite appauling. Previous reviewers have noted a 'hissy' sound which I would have to agree with. The mp3 player for the most part is a con, in the sense that as you probably know from reading other reviews requires you to fork out more money just to use it. Battery life for the most part seems to be ok. There have been many reports of reliability problems regarding this phone including the phone 'switching itself off'. I have not yet encountered any of these problems, however it is something to bear in mind for anyone considering buying one. My advice is buy the phone if it is at a reasonable price, but make no mistake- this phone is not worth a great deal of money. Personally, I have grown to quite like the phone but some of the phones set backs may be unnacceptable to others.

It is slow and it doesn't have T9, it has something called I-Tap, which you can't add words to. Also you cannot upload pictures to a PC via the USB cable, you have to buy a seperate memory card reader. **THE BIGGEST FLAW OF ALL** Just like the rest of the O2 X-range, X1, X1i, X2, the X3 still switches itself off for no apparent reason! It may take a while before it does this, but i can guarantee it will sooner or later, and it will be sooner. The problems is the software, it has not be written well and they need to completely redesign it and take a leaf out of leading phones manufacturers books. O2 have just released the O2 X4, if it anything like the last 4 mobiles from them, do not be fooled by its stylish appearance!!! O2 know the problems with their phones, yet they still sell them to the public, only to have hundreds returned for repairs each week.

Well... Got this for Christmas. I personally think it's a great phone for what I paid for it (180 approx.), considering all the features you get with it. I mean, 1.3 Mega Pixel camera, video recording, externam colour screen, polyphonic ringtones and an MP3 player. Then again, you have to actually pay more to enable the MP3 player, and if you want to store a reasonable amount of stuff you have to pay more. The 1.3MP camera feature, when uploaded onto a computer, has a very grainy quality to it. Also, at first I was very concerned about the video quality. It seemed quite grainy and lasted somewhere in the region of 6 to 20 seconds. Then I discovered the option of resizing it to CIF, which allows you to take up to three minutes or more of video footage, depending on the space left on your memory card. It gives a very good quality video which includes sound recording, so brilliant. The Handset Manager that comes with it isn't the best I could of hoped for, it seems very.. How should I put it... Foreign. Like them 'Made In China' things. It annoyed me when I tried to upload things yet it wouldn't let me. However, I discovered that by downloading .MIDI files and uploading them, I got free ringtones. And not little 20-second ones, full length songs. So, score. If you want a video mobile packed with features at a cheap price, then the X3 is for you. However, if you are a posh snob who demands top quality items, I'd recommend paying that bit extra for a Bond-esque gadgety phone. The only thing I'm unhappy about with this little phone is the fact that you have to pay for the adapter to actually use the MP3 Player.

I cant think of anything else to say about it. Its the worst phone ive ever had. I wish i could wind back time and choose a miles better free upgrade. If the shop cant fix it, im thinking of cancelling my contract and getting a new one with a new phone that works! Just avoid this phone because its Pants! and thats being kind.

I normally only buy nokias but when i saw this phone i thought i would take a chance on it...worst decision i ever made!! This is the worst phone i have ever had and i can't w8 4 my contract 2 run out. I bought it because it has an MP3 player but it is a nightmare trying 2 get an SD reader, and they don't supply it in the O2 shops and the instructions on how 2 use it are awful. The camera is not much good either and neither is the video. When i 1st got the phone my WAP wouldn't work and had 2 go back 2 the shop and they gave me a new 1,now i've just found out my infra red doesn't work either! The quality of the network coverage is very poor which really annoys me. The screen is 2 bright @ night, the ringtones r awful, but worst of all is the txt message alert sound,it sounds like a door bell and u can't change it...its so embaressing!! I have head phones on all the time when i'm out and sometimes can't hear my phone ring, but normally i can feel it vibrating...not this phone,i have missed loads of calls and txt messages. I'm trying 2 think of something good 2 say about this phone, but i'm really struggling. So my advice 2 any1 thinking of buying the X3 is DON'T!!

There is no doubt about it - this phone sucks! I haven't experienced the same problems as you guys but I have had problems with the infa red i.e it doesn't work. When speaking to an O2 customer advisor at my local shop in Wigan he said this is a common problem with the phone and they have had many returned due to this. Before getting this phone I had the sony ericsson T610 and loved it, I got this after returning a faulty O2 X2!!! At the end of my first years contract O2 contacted me about upgrading and then told me there was only 1 free upgrade with all the latest features and that was the O2 X3, I was immediatley put off as the last O2 phone I had was rubbish but I was assured this one is the muts nuts and so i took the risk. More fool me - after my 5th call to O2 to try and sought out my problem I was advised to cancel my contract and go online and order whatever phone I want and that way I can get a "better" (his word not mine) phone for free. So there you go folks O2 customer services agree - there are 'better' phones out there than this GO AND BUY ONE OF THOSE!

After having read the reveiws here I decided the good outweighed the bad and decided to take the plunge. On first inmpressions I was extremely pleased with the phone and after a few days of use my enthusiasm hasn't wavered one bit. The picture quality of the camera is very good compared with most other phones I have seen, after all lets not forget it is a PHONE!!! not a digital camera. I found the phone to be extremely user friendly making navigating the menu's a breeze. All in all this phone does everything I want it to and much more. The only critisism I have is with the memory card. The phone comes with a 32MB Mini SD card which enables you to store extra images and video then most phones. But the main reason I got this phone was for the ability to have Mp3'S stored on the memory card. But trying to get a card reader from the high street that reads mini SD Cards has proven to be a real pain. (I am not a fan of online shopping) Readers that take SD Cards are everywhere so why doesn't the phone come with an SD Card adapter? If you buy a Mini SD Card an adapter comes as standard so why doesn't the one with phone. It's not much of a problem if you can afford to buy another card or just the adapter (I know they are not that expensive) but not everybody can. So my advice is that if you don't want the hassle of having to go out and buy extra accessories for your storage needs when you get your phone then steer clear of X3. I now have a 256MB Card, adapter and card reader on it's way for a cut price amount of 25 which will enable me to have enough music to see me through many boring days at work, hopefully the Mp3 player will live up to my expectations.. But other then that I believe I made the right choice of phone when I got the X3 and would highly recommmend it.
