Review

But this comes at a price, and not just a monetary one - it's the biggest, heaviest phone ever made, excluding a small number of phones with PDA-like functions.

The N93 has a twist-and-flip design that can be moved into 4 different positions: closed when not in use, folded open for talking, a camera mode and a viewing mode. It's a concept that works well and enables the outstanding photographic capabilities of the device to be used conveniently. The keypad is nice to use, with large clearly-defined keys, unlike some of the other Nseries SmartPhones. There's a small external screen that displays basic information, and a fantastic internal screen. The main screen is a slightly lower resolution than the N90, but at 2.4 inches it's physically larger than most Nseries phones, and gives excellent colour reproduction and good visibility in sunlight. There are dedicated keys for using the camera, including keys for the flash and zoom. Build quality is very high and physically the design of the N93 is superb, apart from the massive size and weight!

The N93 has an outstanding camera, and it's worth listing the specs in detail:

The video recorder has the following specs:

Broadly speaking, the camera is as good as that on the Sony Ericsson K800i, and the video camera is better. The N93 really sets the benchmark for camera phones.

The N93 also comes with a superb music player that supports a wide range of formats with high quality stereo output via headphones, with playlists and an equalizer. The supplied software is excellent - Nokia Music Manager handles one click CD ripping, converting and transferring music to your device - and Windows Media Player helps you to manage your PC music library. USB mass storage enables drag and drop functionality, and up to 2 Gbytes of storage is supported (a 128 Mbyte card is supplied). In addition to the media player, there's a built-in FM radio with support for Visual Radio. You can even use the Wi-Fi connection to play video, music and photos on a compatible TV, hifi or PC.

Full connectivity is supported: Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0 (with USB mass storage), Infrared, Wireless LAN (802.11 b/g) & TV-Out. 3G data transfer enables high-speed downloads of up to 384 kbps. A full web browser is included, and the email client handles various kinds of attachments.

Really, the N93 is an incredible device with nothing missing - and this is it's problem. The end result is that it's both very expensive and very large - too big to put in a pocket - so it's obviously not going to be a mainstream phone. For power users who are willing to put up with the bulk, however, the N93 really can't be beaten. Now replaced by the uprated Nokia N93i.

Good phone with excellent features let down by slow initiating camera and software glitches even on a standard non mutilated system. This phone should have been the benchmark for others to follow but with most nokia flagship phones there is always the "but" . would love another one if they manage to sort it out properly as i only buy flip phones

Still using this phone. Why? It's the last decent clamshell phone that was made. I was working as a fabricator when I bought it and the abuse this phone has taken is unreal. Drop it on concrete, fine. Drop steel on it, fine. It's because the screen is protected by the case, the size that puts people off it is what makes it useful. If I leaned against a steel support to weld something with an I phone in me pocket I'd probably be looking at a new screen. The camera has paid for itself 10 times over too. Involved in a RTA a few years back and took video straight away, later the guilty party tried to claim I'd pulled out on him which the video from this phone proved was impossible. Love the browser on it too, very easy to use, I prefer to switch images and java off and it cuts the data used down to a quarter. I'm just off to the gym with me favourite mp3's on the mini sd in me phone. 3 years strong and still going well. Come on nokia give us a modern version of it.

This may be a lengthy review of my 93, perhaps for the long period I have been dealing with it. I am a fan of the flip phones, and when Nokia released that I couldn't resist, though I have long been (and still) fond of Sony (Ericsson), and am considering buying the Z1010 ISA. I don't know why Nokia keeps on selling phones that last only for one year? Sales? Is it a corporate hidden policy? I know I shall buy another but don't push me to the purchase option, especially if it is like the hellish N96!! Buttons fade away with the normal everyday usage, with the speakers getting aged and the listener could hardly listen to you. I am mentioning these features in particular cause I am a basic phone user, and that's indeed my special reason for buying a flip. The camera gets darker after launching it for a few seconds, and indeed you may lose an instant shot before your cam is ready. Again Nokia has this troublesome making when you plug in the speakers, as your phone may ca ll in any of your contacts if you left it out there in your pocket (voice recognition that can never be turned off). Even bluetooth connection is too slow, if it happens to get connected at all, and the phone gives memory full error even after removing most of my precious data, to the extent that you may really consider another phone as a backup! Sometimes the music player stops when you flip down the phone, asking you to keep if wide open if you wanna listen to your favorite music, and this needs a sluggish restart if your ears still want that song! I haven't used the more advanced options like the Office nor the PDF, cause the basics can hardly work. There are no system crashes thank God, and the battery can still work to the last second. Sometimes it can not recognize the new memory installed and keeps on telling me of the unsafety of removing mem while it is still open, though I swear I didn't even who is that 000 dared to touch it?! To cut it short, don't expect the advanced options to work with you fine, and hope for the basics to work the way you want them to be. Don't expect it to run for a long period. I am having a Z200 that can perform the basics just fine, and can't get what I want here. Looking for design? N93i is what you are looking for, but care about functions after some period.

The very good feature of this phone is direct TV out which enables to play the recorded videos on tv or pc at any time. I found also it quite heavy but once you start using it you will used to it heaviness.

i have owned this phone for almost a year now and have to say I love it. i'll simply list the pro's and cons as some reviews babble on a bit.... i bought this because of the outstanding picture quality it boasted about and seeing as i had one daughter at the time and another imminent, i wanted a phone to capture their cute smiles on and also record onto dvd quality video. pro's: 1.video quality really is amazing. simply record (advise you get at least a 1GB memory card- micro SD) and then attach to your TV or dvd recorder as i did and watch in glorious colour on your TV. really looks great on the big screen and you lose no quality at all. 2. Camera is also top quality with the zoom buttom very well placed and the flip screen ability very useful. flash also attached for darker shots, which it will automatically use if it does not feel it is a light enough room or shot. 3. very easy to use menus. simple as ever from nokia. 4. battery life is great for a phone that boasts so much on it. use it a lot and it WILL require charging every night. 5. great sound quality from external speaker when you have realtunes for your ringtones you lose none of the quality in the sound. CONS: 1. It does tend to freeze or the screen goes blank from time to time. I had mine sent back to 3 to be repaired but nokia simply sent it back to them with a new screen protector. I found that if i did not have a photo as a screensaver or background then this problem went away. after all, if you use too many of the phones abilities at once it will crash just like a P.C. does from time to time if you run too many programs at once. 2. SIZE. it is a huge phone, but then i bought it for its features. if you want a phone that does not get it the way of your whole head when you use it to make a call then stay away from this. although bluetooth solves that problem. all in all the N93 is the dog's proverbial for filming and taking pictures. not had any problems with signal and find battery life more than adequate. if you want a camera phone, buy one of these. you wont regret it. i'm about to get either the LG viewty or the N95 for my upgrade from 3 so i will review the one i opt for.

As a user in the United States where "wow factor" phones are in short supply I am extremely happy to use an N93. Anywhere I go my phone seems to catch peoples' eyes and, as corny as it sounds, is a great conversation starter. The bulk is a little cumbersome at times, but as far as it not fitting into a pocket is false. On a daily basis I keep my phone in my pocket, even when wearing work clothes, such as slacks and khakis. Obviously the transforming factor makes the phone very original, but my favorite attribute is the speaker for the mp3 player. The quality and loudness of the sound is great. The only drawback is that I'm having a hard time finding a replacement lens cap and adapter to fit 3.5mm BOSE headphones. I probably would have not dropped the suggested retail price on this, well because I'm not rich and $700-800 is ridiculous for a PHONE! I was able to get it at wholesale price and I don't regret any penny of the purchase!

It has the most featuresr of all (exept for the n95) but: it's big, the screen may flip while in conversation, the OS may stall sometimes..it may be a bit slow sometimes..(windows isn't?? ;)),etc BUT, the phone has a really well protected screen by th aluminium cover, the stdby is longer than n95,it's a real pleasure to open it and use it like a real camcorder and the flip the screen horizontally to make everybody around gaze at you...etc After all I'm pleased with it's funcionality and woundn't change it for the n95(it has no display protection)

One Major Drawback I think Is The Size Of the Phone, This Phone Is Big With A Capital B. Shoul d Be Called Super Big, No Chance of getting this baby into the pocket. **ALERT** One Major Flaw with this phone Is the Battery Life, To say This Sucks Is An Understaement,If U Like to Play Games And Browse the net make sure u do offline, as browsing online and using various funtions on phone zaps the battery, One time i had a fully charged phone 2 hours later it was drained. its that bad,Also Another flaw ive noticed is that the phone for no reason just turns off, which has happened more than once, ive had this phone now for 3 weeks. I have to once u get over all the gadgets this phone with it's flaws will raise there ugly head. Which is why im selling the phone due to irractic problems with this phone.I woudn't say this is the best phone ever made,Its good but it has some serious flaws Which are named above, Firsty If U Want this phone go to your nearest phone dealer and check out this phone. Ok, so this phone is big-ish. So big infact that it is easy to use, see the screen, and text with - unlike all the small phones we seem to 'Have to have' these days. Obviously it's easy to use, after all, it is a Nokia - unlike my girlfriends Sony Ericsson thing. One of the downsides however, is the calendar, it is absolute rubbish in comparison to the previous 3 Nokia phones I have owned. The only other bad thing about it, apart from the rubbish ring tones (that applies to ALL mobiles though) is that sending a message can be a bit of a long drawn-out affair, again, not on par with my previous 3 Nokia's. I used to love this mobile, when I got it. Now, when you twist it it does nothing when it is actually supposed to change mode. The camera mode button on the side no longer locks the phone, so I have to open the screen to lock it. It regularly freezes and crashes through simple tasks such as changing from silent mode to outdoor, for example. It doesn't turn off, however, it goes dark and unresponsive, so you have to turn it on again and wait for it to load. I will be ringing Vodafone to change this phone. I would rather have a cheaper phone that actually works than a 'smart' phone which doesn't function correctly. I will probably ask to go back to my Nokia N73 as this, in the week I had it before it got wet and broke on me, actually seemed an alright phone. At first the size of the N93 was ok. Sure it looked and felt a lot larger than my Marine VHF Handheld Radio, but the good camera made up for the large lump on the top. The bits needed to go somewhere. The quality of the camera made up for the poor looks of this phone. Now, however, it doesn't work well and it is as useless as the big bricks that you see on American TV shows! HUGE but Rubbish!

I've had the n93 since August. This phone is supurb. The only complaint I have is that the zoom is noisy when your taking video (this is due to be fixed in the next upgrade). The wifi works a treat, when going on holiday I can easily pick up free wifi connections with ease. It's possible to get a 2gig mini sd card. Mine only cost me 20 online. That's plenty of room for MP3's, pictures, and videos. The phone is big, but you always know it's there! you'll know if you left it somewhere!

Ive been with Sony Ericcson now for Years and was looking forward to the P990i but after waiting nearly a year I gave up with them and opted to go back to Nokia, whom I had not been with for 10 years amazing realy. The phone is brilliant, it is bulky but as a ex P900 and PDA user felt small in the hand. I love the functunality, but here is the BUT the camera has stopped working unless i use the self timer pathetic. Ive read many reports of camera faults and thought ok I just need to upload the new software update to see if this is the problem as many people had reported. To my amazement the updates for the N93 are still in development after failures with the last attempt; this is starting to smack of Sony ericcson. The problem now, is shall I treat this as a warrenty issue and go back to the distributer of the phone or is it Nokia. I wish these phone companies would start sorting out there loyalty with the customer who spend frigging fortunes on these type of phones, whos the mug me or them?

I just got this phone on a new contract (cheaper than upgrading)- i got it for 50 as im on a high tarrif (55 a month). I thought i would get it as its the most expensive one and if i dont like it, i can sell it for at lest 400. Anyway, i have been using it for 10 days now and i truely love it! It is a big phone (but stylish too in the black colour). Although i think most people would find it to bulky, but, for tall/big people its not so bad. I my self am tall and it doesnt look odd when i use it. However, i would not recommend this for small(ish) people-apart from looking odd, it would be quite challenging from a practical aspect, and, not very convenient. For me it is perfect as i truely struggle with small phones. The phone it self has a brilliant display-its large and enjoys great clarity-using it with GPS is perfect! As an MP3/Media player, its great. Off-course the Cam quality is excellent and nothing comes close to its quality on a phone-cam. As a smartphone its very fast too, and, much faster than the N70 and N73. It also has Wifi which was very handy when i used it in the airport recently. The screen swivels into laptop mode which gives a brilliant view when browsing the net. I could have gone for the PDA type phones with full keyboard but they are too focused on the smartphone side of things-this phone does focus on entertainment too which i regard as important when out of the office! Im not one to follow the crowd and if you're after its feauture set, it shall not disappoint. Overall, I Love it!

Execellent smartphone from Nokia. Apart from its astonishing optics and video capability, people tends to forget that it edits the pictures too. For people who rants and pants about its size and weight, hallo! It is a smart phone and not a simple D900. It is slightly smaller when compared to mine Palm Treo 650. Nokia doesn't loose its value in the secondhand markt when compared to Samsung. It reads Microsoft Office files and pdf's. Above all, mine N93 runs Tomtom navigator 6!

Honestly, I am a litte bit disappointed with the pictures that I've taken with this fone. The SE K800i does a better job on this, especially during the evening. However, the Nokia N93 is the only fone that is with a 3x optical zoom (correct me if I am wrong). Moreover It does and excellent job on video recording even comparing it to some D-Cam. If you just need a fone that takes good pictures, don't think this is the right one for you as it's HUGE and expensive (comparing it to the SE K800 and the Samsung D900). However, if you are planning to sell your ipod and your old cam corder, this fone will definetly be your first choice. Overall, I love my N93 because I have to do a lot of video recording and I can put down some movie clips and music for myself while at work :p

This is a good phone. Excellent multi media. But then it is very bulky. Despite the weight the internal memory of the phone is nothing to write home about. Why couldn't Nokia borrow from the gigabyte memory of N91? After placing so much good mulitmedia (video quality and megapixels camera, fm radio) there is a scanty memory to store the various recordings or images. Get the phone if you do not mind the weight or small internal camera. As for me I think I would wait for samsung to come up with something as good as before buying. I hope I do not have to wait so long.

This may sound stupid but i've just read through the reviews here and fail to understand some people. I've just upgraded to the N93 from the N90. I now have a better camera, video camera, i have a radio and i can watch TV easily. The N90 was nice but the N93 takes Nokia to a whole new level. Lets keep things simple for those rating it with 2 stars - if you don't want a big phone go buy a cybershot sony or something like that. I bought this phone because of it's size aswell as it's capabilities - i know it's in my pocket, i'm not going to sit on it, i'm not going to lose it and it's not tarted up. It's a phone with quality programmes and functionality and as an added bonus i don't have to buy a camera or video camera. Granted the lens cap is rubbish but Nokia did well here.

Well having owned this phone for a few weeks now i have to say that although the features are potentially excellent and work most of the time, there are a lot of glitches and technical problems that occur. Most recently my phone has taken to not opening files in the gallery without switching itself off and then back on when it feels like it.If it wasn't for all the technical problems i would of loved this phone, but it really isn't worth it when you have so many problems.I have heard a lot of complaints about the N series. In my mind a product should be perfected before it is sold to the paying public, instead of trying to pump out products with a high spec for a quick turnover and sacrificing quality.

This phone was an upgrade from a nokia 6230i which was bought because i just can't get on with samsung phones, just annoying....another story i think! As far as the Nokia N93 goes, it's a great phone, yes it's big, but it does feel solid, i've had it for a month now and it's going strong, i would give the phone 5 stars but it has got (what i understand are fairly normal on nokia sybian operating systems) a few little bugs, eg some of the videos won't play bacause the phone thinks it's run out of memory, and occasionaly the phone says that it's closed the application 'main' - it doesn't affect the use, just a bit odd. The Camera on the phone is great, clear crisp pictures which are very good on the tv output as well as on the pc. The video is what really impressed me. I'd read the reviews both on here and other places which claimed the video was good, but when i first recorded one and watched it back i was amazed, granted i was going from the nokia 6230i, but still, it's maybe not up to dvd quality and in poor light (it's just fairly average, but still watchable and good quality), in daylight outside the quality is great and if you find fault with it then you will have to be VERY picky. What i have found is that because the phone has so many features you tend to get lost in the menus, and the other annoying thing was the nice alarm set up as found on the 6230i, eg the repetition days as well as the usual time etc. Battery life is a bit annoying, but in fairness to the phone, i'm constantly checking it and i call my girlfriend about 3-4 times a day, at least one call for an hour or so, plus numerous texts and video watching, it lasts two days with that use, maybe more but i don't want to be caught out with a dead battery while out and about. I've prob used far too much space on here now, but i honestly have no probs with the phone at all, just the niggles i mentioned above, but overall it's a great phone, very pleased with it, should last me the 18 months i'm stuck with it for!! Unless you're one of those people who hate nokia's i don't think you'll be dissappointed.

No need to buy ipoad, coz 2gig ipoad is too expensive compare to the prize of the microSDcard, I assume that it can also support 4gig sdcards, which is more much lesser in price if you love music compare of having ipoad!
