Nokia 7260 Review

Phone rating:

Review: October 2004. Updated February 2006.

The Art Deco inspired design of the Nokia 7260 comes with a coordinated carrying pouch and strap, revealing Nokia's intention to make this phone a fashion item. It is a beautiful phone to look at, with its curved edges, high gloss finish and contrasting silvery highlights, and practical too, although the keypad suffers a little in usability.

The 65k colour display is bright and clear, although small, but good enough. The camera is VGA standard (640 x 480 pixels), and again is average. The integrated video recorder and FM radio are welcome additions, but all things considered there is nothing special in the functionality of this phone. It does enough, and looks stylish at the same time!

Overall, a good mid-range phone, packaged in an unusual and distinctive design, that is slim, lightweight and practical. This phone will appeal to those wanting something a little different and exclusive - not because of particularly high cost, but because it is different. You should also consider the new Nokia 7360 from Nokia's L'Amour Collection.

Features of the Nokia 7260 include:

  • Display: active matrix, 65,536 colours, 128 x 128 pixels
  • Integrated VGA camera with video recording and night mode
  • Integrated FM radio
  • Polyphonic ringtones (16-voice MIDI)
  • Voice recorder
  • Flash messaging (instant messaging)
  • Downloadable themes
  • 5-way navigation joystick
  • Multimedia Messaging (MMS), E-mail
  • Internal handsfree speaker for group calls
  • Voice dialing
  • Voice commands
  • Clothing and shoe size converter
  • Two preinstalled games: Glamour Pinball and Backgammon, plus downloadable Java™ games
  • WAP, GPRS, XHTML browser
  • HSCSD and EGPRS for high-speed data connectivity
  • Mobile wallet for storage of your numbers and passwords
  • Pop-Port™ interface and infrared
  • Tri-band
  • Size: 105 x 45 x 18 mm
  • Weight: 92g
  • Talktime: 3 hours
  • Battery standby: up to 14 days

I bought this phone 7 years ago and it still works fine.Of course it's dated now but I like its unique design. The memory is limited (about 2.2MB) and it can't be expanded. What's more, the camera is mediocre. If you want to take some nice photos, then this phone is clearly not for you.

This is a rubbish phone, the memory is non existant and the so called "art-deco" style cover is of very poor quality. keeping it in a pants pocket and using it for txt msgs will result in scratched keypad and phone. The feature set is the standard nokia with standard menu system. it has an FM radio but is nothing special. The camera on the phone is rubbish, i find myself having to explain most of the spur of the moment pictures i have taken, as the people i show them to cant quite make out what they are. If your looking for a phone for features and functions look somewhere else, if you want the "in thing" for 6 months then this might the the phone for you.

I would have to agree with Liam from Scotland on this phone. My previous phone was a 3650 and much more user-friendly, with more features and less fussy than the 7260. It's a very 'funky' looking phone, and all my friends love it, but after having an upgrade to this phone I am really fed up with it, especially after the text messages I recieved came up with '*some text missing*' which is not only fustrating, but inconvenient and tedious as I mainly use text messaging as my way of contacting people! Good for some girls who like 'style' I think its just tack!

Good looks! And unfortunately that about sums up the 7260.I used it as a back up phone for a few days and I wasn't too impressed. It seems to promise a lot in appearance but hardly lives up to it. Great as a cosmetic accesory than a functional phone for anyone constantly on the move. the keypad's very difficult to use at speed, internal memory is very limited, no bluetooth (surprising, given today's standards in mobile telephony). On the plus side, it does have a good camera, good resolution on prints.Maybe more suited to fashion concious ladies...

No need for any more comments as the stars suggest that the phone is outstanding. I have this phone, excellent sound clarity, picture quality, when you download the pics from phone to computer you cannot distinguish between normal digi cam pics and the pics from the phone. small memory but never mind. if you are not going for more features like bluetooth mp3player then this phone suits you best. amazing looks. my fav colours Black background and red foreground. you have to see the phone in the dark as key pad illuminates with red letters wooooow. amazing.

I could store about 30 photos max, thats with no videos otherwise I would have to erase more photos. Answer to your question bop, the front cover is extremeley difficult to get off. It is held in by 2 tiny screws, which need the smallest screwdriver in the world to get off. Unfortunately for me as I was getting the last one out my cover snapped.great! All in all the phone isnt really worth bothering with!

I was asked for an opinion which phone would I reccomend and the first one I said was Samsung D500 cause I have it myself and very satisfied with it.But he sait that he prefear a NOKIA phone.Well what I dont like in NOKIA's is that you have to wait too long to open an image or a menu or whatever. This is the problem of all NOKIA phones.Samsung phones do not have this problem. It is a great phone for somebody who wants to be stylish and do not use all features and says that 'he needs a phone to call and to get called'.This phone is poor in options. It has NO bluetooth,MP3 player, video recording is just 50 sec(in compare with Samsung d 500 60 minutes),memory is too short to store all the files on it.There are more options than memory itself etc etc. This is the phone for a somedy who do not use all the options there are.I would not recommend this phone to somebody who want to get everything from the phone.Design is pretty cool though.Red backlight....nice.by the way when you take it in your hands it gets dirty very soon cause there are a lot of metallic parts taht show your fingerprince. The phone is O.k

BUt on the serious part its features are quite good. This mobile concenrated to those people who dont follow fashion but create fashion. Owing to which this sexy thing is on the top priority list to those people. Its features like having a radio, mms message, infrared, a vga camera are something to be cherished about. But still it leaves few faults its memory, lack of composer, it dosent support extra memory card owing to which business tycoons will not look upon it. It has few extra things included like size converter and etc but it was of no use to me. It has quite good amount of wallpapers and ringtones are music to ones ears but in all a good mobile for people who want to rule the ramp and stand out of the crowd

The battery on the phone is really good (about 3 days wothout charging i think)and also the user guide and all documents you get with it are really helpfull and straightworward. Its quite a small phone and is light so its not a handfull. Its design is really cool too and it has changeable covers. The settings on the phone and profiles/WAP/games are the same as on every phone ive had from nokia whcih are good. Try downloading free games and tones from nokia.com on your wap. Only downfall i have is the screen getting scratched whcih is why i prefer the clam type phones.

Overall, i am pleased with the look and feel of the 7260, i like the improved features, but wish that they had made it compatible with the crop of TrueTones, as polyphonics are getting a little silly now; they mostly sound like an 80's band on a cheapo casio keyboard. one thing nobody has mentioned so far is the FANTASTIC charger. how cool is that? i'd buy it again just for the fact it looks like Jasper Conran designed it! so, well done Nokia, just PLEASE try to get ahead of the competition, instead of following.

The DKU-5 Cable costs 50 bucks, uses a USB connection but you can't go into the phone and retrieve the pictures out like a flash drive. You have to use the counter-intuinitve Nokia Suite program which doesn't even recognise the phone 90% of the time. And after u spent all the time, effort and money, you realise the quality of the pictures are jus plain bad.

I love the look of this fone, very 80s retro looking if you're into that kind of look. Nice, lightweight and slimline phone, I used to have the nokis 3200 before this and that feels like a chunky brick compared to this one! The menu backgrounds could do with looking more innovative, it looks quite dated compared to the overall look of the phone. All in all, I'm very pleased with this phone, well worth the 2 week wait for it to come into stock!!

very nice looking on the outside, but the screen graphics seem rubbish...the menu icons look very basic and monocolour and you cant change the size of the menu font...its so big....the phonebook names can only be a certain length long (most of my entries are in shortened form or without a forename now)...im comparing the graphics and menu icons etc with the ericsson T610 which I had previously- that phone looks dated from the exterior now compared to the 7260, but the screen colours and icons look so much brighter, varied and detailed....maybe im doing something wrong ? can anyone tell me how to get some nice icons and screensavers and colourful wallpaper...the choice of colours is rubbish and in standby mode that digital clock looks sooo 80s! this is the first nokia I bought, cos they finally brought out a goodlooking phone...but the screen graphics are very disappointing!

The memory on this phone is rubbish and it doesnt have bluetooth. Ok it looks alright but if I wanted a phone to just call and text message I would get the Nokia 1100. The phone has about as much features as the Nokia 3310. I wouldnt recommend this phone to anyone. The phone you should get is the Nokia 6230

I love this phone...ok, the memory's not huge, and it doesn't have Bluetooth..but if you're looking for a phone that you can ring and text people from (crazy i know, to want these things from a mobile!) and something a little different...then this is for you! It's beautiful, the art work you can select is fab, and generally you won't find a better looking phone anywhere! But it's not too much of a fashion item not to work...it has a longer battery life and talk time than most new nokias, so if you're looking for a phone that does what phones are meant to do, plus wanting to look the chicest cat in town buy this!!!!

What is wrong with Nokia??? Why can't they design descent phones anymore? and i am not talking about the style but the tiny screen which has a keyboard twice its size. Weren't they the ones who invented the first compact mobile phones so why have a phone this big and not give it a screen which has at least a 128x160 resolution. A real shame as the specifications and the overall style are impressive.

I must admit I bought this phone for its unconventional design. As it has been made well known that it's not packed with plenty of features, it's good enough for a low-tech person like me. Maybe it won't appeal to a lot of people, and that's what made it even more "unique". I would say this is the "best" looking phone I have owned so far, would recommend it to people who loves individuality.

I was about to buy the 7610, but saw the 7260. Although the 7610 has way better features than this phone, this phone won my heart because it was very nicely designed and because it just felt right. You'll know what I mean when you hold the phone. It is easy to hold and it feels great. The functions are what you would expected from a mid range Nokia mobile. The radio function with the loudspeaker mode is also another plus. Although I must say, Nokia was a bit stingy on the memory size given to a mobile phone that has camera, voice recorder and also a camera recorder. Otherwise, no problems and a nice looking phone. Thanks Nokia for bringing a DIFFERENT looking phone!
