Nokia 7200 review

 Review: March 2004

Last updated July 2005

Rating: 2 stars

In a nutshell: The Nokia 7200 is Nokia's first clamshell phone, and is visually stunning.

Review

Its textile covers are certainly different, and quite tactile, although durability remains to be proven. Downsides are the large size and weight, combined with the small screen size.

It's not a very highly featured phone, and is now looking quite dated in terms of its specification.

I brought this phone in my freshman year 2004.

It cost me 3900RMB which is around $470 usd.

Pros

The phone is very beautiful and full of art features.

The system and functions are awesome.

The original battery is also quite durable.

Cons

But the screen is too small, that is a problem.

Compare with the Moto Raze V5, the phone has smaller screen and much bigger size.

I have just read some of the negative reviews of this phone and each to their own I guess. I have had my 7200 for almost 3 years now and not once has it let me down. It has features on it that none of the other Nokias appear to have such as wallet which I use alot. Granted there are a lot of features it doesn't have but I don't need them any way. The only time I have problems with it turning off is if a slam it shut and that usually means I don't want to speak to anyone anyway so saves me turning it off. I find it a good size for the handbag (doesn't get lost). I would have no problem recommending this phone to anyone (thats if it is still available) So there's my 2 bobs worth.

When i first got this phone i was really impressed with the design and features but after seeing all the different phones my friends have upgraded to i've come to realise how outdated this is. For a start the display is too small for a camera phone, the menu graphics are a bit unattractive and the materials it's made of are a bit cheap. It hasnt broken or anything but only cos i've taken good care of it. There's also not enough memory if u want to keep loads of photos and ringtones on it. So if anyone wants to buy this phone now, my advice is take a good look at all the other phones on offer cos this is just too outdated.

This phone is very stylish and nice looking but all the features atren't that good. First of all the video recording is SO short, there is no bluetooth and there is hardly any memory and i dont think you can get memory cards for this phone! The camera quiality is quite good though and the voice recording is alright but can be quite fuzzy. Overall i do think that this phone is worth the money because you get everything you need but if you are looking for a phone with very high quiality, this isnt the phone for you!!!!

I have to say I really like this phone. It's stylish and different, something I was really looking for when everyone else around me had the exact same flip-open Motorolas. Many of the reviews say that the screen is small, and true it is smaller than many of the ones out there at the moment, but what they fail to mention is that the resolution is actually a lot higher than the average mobile and so the menus and text is a lot sharper and clearer. I've had the phone for almost nine months now and have had no problems with it, and anyone who says the reception dies when the open it- I haven't had that problem at all. What I do agree with, however, is the lack of memory for storage, especially archiving messages. However all in all I find it a nifty, daring and refreshingly unique model, though probably not for those who'd be playing rough with the thing. You might think it loos like a brick guys but it's not actually one!

Some things I ddnt know about this phone before I bought it: 1. You can make your own GIFs on the computer (B&W) and use them as screensavers (i have my name!) 2. it plays and records videos upto 50seconds! 3. You can have a phone call with the fold closed by locking the keypad during a call. 3. it takes excellent VGA pictures in the correct light 4. it has a 65000 colour screen! 5. it has a very satisfying "click" noise when you shut it!! ooooooooh i'd give it 4/5, its not the best flip phone nokia have made, check out the new NOKIA 6101...gona sell millions... russell

This is an awesome phone, easy to use and the photo resolution is wicked! .. i read some of the other reviews about it turning itself off, and ive had mine for awhile now and never had that problem .. as far as im concerned it looks wicked and works fine, i love it .. the only downfall i agree on is the small screen .. i use to be a lover of the sharp series (GX10i,GX20,GX30) .. but now i love this Nokia, i dunno wat it is but i like it a hell of alot better then Sharp .. yeah it doesnt have the MP3 player or any of those other features that the GX30 does but it has everything i need so it gets a BIG thumbs up from me! ..

Nokia's first clamshell phone has been worth the wait! It's a clamshell, but very definitely a Nokia. It is so easy to use, the screen is better than other Nokias I have seen and the camera is surprisingly good. I love the design of the phone with the cool covers, so unique. You can make it look how you want. Can be nice and girly or macho-techno if you prefer. Lots of extra features are included such as email and instant messaging. There is even a radio! This phone is the best and Nokia are the best!!

I HAVE HAD THIS PHONE FOR 2 WEEKS AFTER RETURNING A SONY ERICSSON Z600 TO THE SHOP. I LIKE THIS NOKIA CLAMSHELL BUT THE SCREEN IS NOT THAT BIG FOR A CLAMSHELL DESIGN. THE PHONE LOOKS REALLY GOOD, ALTHOUGH NOT AS GOOD AS IN THE PHOTO. NOKIA QUALITY IS GOOD WITH GOOD MENUS AND EASE OF USE FOR TEXTING. I USED NOKIAS A LONG TIME AGO BUT THIS IS THE FIRST CLAMSHELL I HAVE SEEN FROM NOKIA. I LIKE IT.

I changed back to Nokia after having had an NEC phone on 3G. It is such a relief! I had forgotten how amazingly simple Nokia phones are to use and the 7200 exceeds my expectations. I love the look of the phone - I think that it's really funky as well as including loads of great features. Definitely the best phone on the market!

I bought this phone only becoz it is Nokia and I am really dissappointed. I dno't think I will buy another Nokia agian. I bought a Sony Ericcson it's perfect. PLEASE PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS PHONE.

As someone who bought the 7200 for it's good camera and screen quality I was surprised to find out that it takes and displays better pics than the 6230. While the 6230 offers an awesome package and I think is a better phone than the 7200, after identical comparisons I discovered that the camera quality of the 7200 is miles better. Also noticed that the screen quality is better. You would have thought it would be about the same.... Odd...

this Phone is a thing of absolute beauty and has been drawing admiring glances wherever i go. The best thing is that i have not seen anyone else in my home town (Chorley) with one. Result! My one complaint however is the screen size, it is far too small considering the space around it. But hey, i'm no technobod, i just think it looks better than any phone on the market.

This phone is excellent, everything you would expect from a nokia and very nice looking indeed. Its not too big and very useable. I was fed up with trying other makes (eg motorola, siemans) and always seem to go back to good old nokia as i dont think they can be beaten. Only a couple of negative points, the covers wear out a little bit too much and the scrolling of the menue is sluggish. The headphone socket is a nuisance too because you cant really get it in in a hurry. This is a pain and i reckon it might break too cos its a bit fiddley. Still the best phone ive ever had though!

Being a veteran of Nokia phones, I can safely say this phone lives up to my expectations. The 7200 delivers all the functions that a top range mobile phone does, if not to a higher standard to some. A great choice in my books! However the only downside is the slightly womanly appearance it has. I mean come on.. It has got a fury cover for Christ sake!...lol

Absolutely rubbish phone. Slow dated software, basic and very boring. Mine has broken within a week and switches itself on and off when ever it likes. A big disapointment. They have submitted style insted of technology, absolutely terrible to operate. Awful just awful.
