Nokia 6111 Review
Phone rating:
Review: January 2006. Updated December 2006.
Oh dear. Nokia's first attempt at a slide phone. It's obviously a response
to the runaway success of the Samsung D500,
and at first sight it looks like Nokia have matched Samsung's style.
On paper it doesn't quite match up to the specification of the D500
- the memory is very small (with no memory card slot) and the screen
is the worst of any phone in this price range. The camera is average
for this type of phone. The one thing that the 6111 has that rivals
don't is the stereo FM radio, but that hardly justifies the price tag.
However, take it out of its box, and the phone really starts to reveal
its inadequacies. First off, it's a very unreliable phone. Many users
have reported that their phones broke within days or weeks of purchase.
The slide mechanism just isn't nice and is prone to sticking or breaking
completely. The software is very unreliable, and freezing or shutting
down is common. The battery life is worse than Nokia's figures would
suggest. Audio quality is poor. The camera is well below average quality.
The keypad is unresponsive ... is that enough to put you off? Read the
consumer reviews below to hear more sad stories about the Nokia 6111.
Look, save yourself some grief, don't buy this phone - consider one
of these better slide phones instead: Nokia
5300, Samsung E370
Features of the Nokia 6111 include:
- Megapixel camera with flash and 6x digital zoom

of became an expert fixing or putting up with annoyances but have not
been able to solve the main problem. i simply cannot turn it off, as
I push the button to turn it off the calendar appears. Very disappointed

Seriously-avoid at all costs. I upgraded to this from my D500 and i
thought this was a better, smaller sleeker version. My D500 was a bit
chunky so i went fot this. It freezes, the camera randomly shuts down,
sometimes the battery doesn't even charge. Now the slide has started
to get stuck and the slide is NOT smooth.

finally got this phone after a long wait(the last batch was faulty and
being recalled I was told). I was a bit concerned after reading the
reviews but have to say I have been pleasantly surprised. It looks and
sounds great, nothing wrong with the camera and is really easy to use.
My only grumble is the slight lack of memory, I had more in the 6230
but this is still a much better phone. I would recommend it to anyone.....

This is the worst excuse for a phone. DO NOT BUY!! This phone kept crashing
within a few days of buying it and it has stopped turning on now. I
have had to send it to the Nokia service centre for repair-not something
i have had to do with the brick that was the 3410 before! Teh signal
keeps fliting on and off...the key pad seems to be unresponsive. I would
rate this in the minus figures if i could. This is a piece of junk..a

was looking forward to recieving this one, untill I read these reviews!!!
anyhow, it came and I grew to really like it. Lovely big screen, good
colour, large print pretty looking phone. does not bad photos or video,
just not top quality, sound is loud and good although too loud is a
bit cheap sounding. Lovely loud radio, terrible ringtones. not enough
memory if you want a music player too, just enough for a good few photos.
Very plastic made, although looks good before you touch it! dont think
it would've lasted that long, cheap slide, wobbled a bit. Just before
sending it back, realised that an option to turn off or on the word
suggestion mode in predictive text option, wasn't there? book said it
should've been. Also, had to charge it every day and I only made a couple
of calls and played with the menu a bit. Excellent graphics on the game
rally 3.nearly kept it.....wanted to as I liked the look of the phone
and screen.......but it just felt poor quality with low memory. opted
for the s.e.w810i and am soooooo glad I did! (FAR SUPERIOR PHONE!) nokia
have lost a once avidly loyal customer!!!

----DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!----- This phone was on ebay 30mins after
i got home! ...1 star ....id pick 0 if i could Reasons: - the sim is
in the most stupidest place! i nearly broke it! - you can feel it breaking
when taking a photo , you can feel the screen moving!!! - you can hardly
see the photo...not even in a bright light -you can get a better screen
quality on a £20! phone , its terrible!!! its all gritty and tacky!.
-the themes are horrible!!! -menu is set out stupidly - the layout of
making a text message is just stupid and not like any of the other nokias.
- the ringtones ....erm well i wouldnt dare let any1 hear them! there
really annoying , they just sing. - its got an mp3 player ...yet its
only 22mb you would only be able to fit about 4 songs on. -you cant
add memory to it by a card ...so there was no point in nokia adding
an mp3 player. - wallpapers on the phone are horrible , id rarther have
a white screen!. - you need elf sized fingers to use the type line of
numbers coz there half of the top line is under the screen. - the phone
feels cheap , likes it just gonna fall apart. -the cammera is in a stupid
place for taking photos up right , your finger gets in the way. - VIDEO!!
IS TERRIBLE!!! it freezes and the sound continues ....all you can see
is squares and it doesnt take up the whole screen its the size of a
stamp.... - photo quality is really bad! i mean ...a VGA cammra would
be better. - THE WORST BAD POINT IS.....theres no good points ...well
the only good thing is that someone bought it and i dont have it anymore!!!
buying this phone was the worse choice ever!! PEOPLE DO NOT BUY THIS
PHONE!!!!! IF YOU DO YOU WILL BE SELLING IT STRAIGHT AWAY! ///DONT BUY///DONT

was - within a week the slide was sticking and all of a sudden it just

After using the same phone for 5 years, I decided it was finally time
for an up grade. I have had the phone for a little less than a week
and already had one replacement, and about to have another. The microphone
didn’t work on the first one, now the battery makes it through
no more than a day and a half. Like everyone else has said there isn't
enough memory for MP3's yet it was the fact that it can play MP3's that
I was attracted to. the camera is poor quality (yet another reason I
purchased the phone), the setting up process of the phone, personalizing
it, was quiet difficult, not as straight forward as older phones. I
am really disappointed. It's a very chic looking phone, and has the
potential to be a great phone. Oh and men shouldn't really consider
it. you really need small fingers and nails to move through the menu
and key pad, let alone to open the panel to charge the phone.

I think this nokia is a fantastic design, small enough to pop in my
pocket and easy to use. So far its been 100% reliable, not a single
error or problem (even though clumsy me has dropped it a few times).
The only thing the phone really needs is a memory card for a bigger
memory, you have to use a cable to your PC to get stuff on your phone
or have it bluetoothed to you, but the MP3 player becomes pretty useless
when you can only have about 3 songs on it anyway. Also when using the
flash on the camera, it has a tendancy to make everything just look
blue. Other than these problems, i think ita a pretty good phone, I've
had mine since before christmas and still not to bored of it.

There is nothing terrible about this phone. It's just not very good
either. It's the flimsiest Nokia I've ever known - the two parts of
the phone don't fell well-connected at all, so drop this phone and it's
game over - and what is the point of a 23mb memory with a camera and
mp3 player? - with a few photos and an application, you're left with
an mp3 player that can hold just 4 or 5 mp3s! This is never going to
replace your mp3 player, and a 1megapixel camera isn't going to replace
your digital camera either. Have a look at one in the shop before you
buy - don't just look online - it looks and feels really cheap in reality.
As an upgrade, only get it if you can't get something else - with no
memory card, for Nokia-lovers the older 6230i is still a better (if
less interesting) option, but if you're paying for a phone then look
elsewhere if you want to get value for your cash. Mine went back to
O2 for a Sony Ericsson.

functions very well, and is easy to use. Most of the functions can be
used with the phone 'closed', and even when open the keys are easy to
press. As i have small hands it is fine but i can imagine if u have
big fingers you might struggle...this is a phone definatly aimed at
women. The only slight downside is the battery, which lasts 3-4 days.
For me this is fine as i was used to an appauling battery, but compared
to some phones out at the moment (such as the Motorola RAZR which lasts
about a week) this isnt long. However, despite this one setback, this
is a great phone in all aspects - It looks good and the simple nokia

never had a problem with nokia before and always never needed to charge
battery more than around 2 3 times a week, with this phone it was once
a day and sometime it would die before i got the chance. my first phone
seemed to have a mind of its own, when u slid it up or down it would
go to the 'switch off' menu and turn itself off, the slide itself is
very faulty and all three phones within 2 weeks actually turnt the screen
white and wouldnt let you see anything. i have now found out nokia retreived
alot of these phones but unless you knew about it you would carry on
with your phne and have to suffer. I really wouldnt recommend getting
this phone, although it may look stylish, once you get it out of the
box it is actually quite tacky. Ive never had so much trouble with a
phone. I never had insurance with my contract but o2 seem to realise
what a bad phone this was and allowed me to change it more than the
usual amount of times.

I upgraded to this phone a week ago. it looked great out of the box.
But when i got it home i found the slide mechanism is extremely poor
quality. For a brand new phone it's been made very cheaply and is a pile
of junk...!!!!. The call quality is abismal, makes a horrid crackling
sound and the person you are calling can't hear you properly!!! If they
had at least put a 1.3 megapixel camera it would have made it a little
better...I've tried taking it back to my phone company,(TheCarphoneWarehouse)
They say as it is an upgrade i don't get the customer satisfaction rights..I'm
appauled with the phone and this company so i'm cancelling my contract
with them, as i took out the right insurance... Do not get this phone..

I already knew that this phone only supports 19M USABLE internal memory
(without expandable memory card slot), but still go for this phone as
a replacement to my SE K700 because: 1. I BELIEVE Nokia phones will
be better in terms of call quality. 2. The phone looks tiny and attractive
(especially the white and pink ones). 3. The battery life of this phone
would be more impressive. However, I must admit that I am TOTALLY WRONG!!
First of all, call quality is bad; sometimes voices can be really cracky
from the earpiece, even when the signal is very strong; definitely I
am not the first person who complain about this. Secondly, the display
is really aweful... there isn't much we can do with 128x160pixels, although
the screen is large; what a waste!! Thirdly, the battery life is more
than disappointing! I am not a heavy user, only talk once in a while
and play a few java games while travelling, switched off the phone in
office and while I sleep, but still need to recharge it every 2 days!!!
What junk!! This isn't much better than K700 at all!! With such features
(non-expandable memory, low resolution display), and such quality, this
phone is definitely over-priced! If you are a big fan of Nokia, I would
suggest you go for Nokia 6270 instead. And for myself, I have resold
this phone and bought an LG U880, and I am really happy about it!

This phone is truly awful. I chose this over samsung E350 cos it had
bluetooth and a megapixel camera but the slide mechanism is really bad
and the phone keeps switching itself off. Another surprise is the sound
quality isnt too good and disappointing for a nokia. I've been told
that the infra-red on the samsung works with other phones too not just
the PC as in their old phones so that should make up for the lack of
bluetooth cos i'm returning immediately.

Bitterly dissapointed with this phone. Enough to make me seriously reconsider
buying a Nokia again. Software was highly unreliable. SIM not recognised
until it had been in the phone for 2 days, battery terrible, switched
itself on and off, prompted me to activate PTT every 5 mins - which
caused the phone to freeze - only remedy to this was switching phone
off. Even the buttons didn't work. In a nutshell, this phone was virtually
unusable, totally unrealiable, and utterly unsatisfactory.

The key pad is useless, and its more weighty than your would think,

I waited ages for this phone only to be disappointed. The first phone
started switching itself off the back on again on the first day and
did so at least four times a day. I then received a replacement handset
from O2 but in the meantime read lots of bad reviews (on gsm arena)
about the screen suddenly going white after 2 weeks due to the ribbon
ripping. As i will only be able to exchange my phone for another 6111
after the 14 day cooling off period i am not taking the chance that
i will keep getting faulty 6111's. Also am not really that impressed
with the phone itself, lots of changes from previous models and it feels
a bit like a toy phone to me but my brothers friends has one and loves
it and hasnt had any problems so maybe make up your own mind about it
if you get a cooling off period on your contract? Am swapping for a
samsung D600 cos i like the sliding phones and it has lots and lots
of good reviews, wanted to stick to nokia but hey-ho its only a phone.
Oh and the replacement switched itself off then back on again for the
first time last night and its only 4 days old!

Initial reaction - disappointing. The phone doesnt appear to be very
robust. When switching on the button got stuck down at top of phone
and had to fiddle for ages to prize it back up. Couldnt get the Nokia
strap through the hole at the side as there wasnt one - had to make
one with a pin! Reception isnt as good as with my other phone. Still
on the same service provider I am unable to get a signal in my home
which I could with my other Nokia. My daughter has just bought the Samsung
D600 and although a Nokia fan I am tempted to change this phone (I only
had it Christmas Eve) for the Samsung. Battery life isnt too bad - had
worse. I just feel its not a solid robust phone and I suppose to me
it seems cheap compared to the Samsung. I dont think the sound quality
is particularly good either - very tinny. Having said all that there
is something about it which I like and I am still in a dilemma as to
whether to keep it or not.

Had this phone 2 weeks. Slide mechanism starting making horrible crunching
noise on opening, then phone died completely. I have been told there
is a 'faulty batch' so awaiting replacement. I am a diehard Nokia fan
but this one, though attractive to look at seems a bit like an afterthought
by the company to scoop some of Samsung's market. I will stick with
it if the replacement works but I wouldn't recommend it to others as
there are many 'free' (contract) phones with far better specs. As a
basic phone with the advantage of small size and good looks it just
about suffices.

Phone very easy to use - as all Nokia phones are really. Great to have
the MP3 for message and ring tones. Loaded games are not too bad. Not
sure where the earlier reviewer is coming from in terms of battery life,
however. It's 2 days since I bought mine. And I have been mucking about

First it's not as small as it looks and is chunkier than my old samsunge800
which i got it to replace, the keys are ok but get quite slippery if
you've been texting alot cos they're very plasticy and get very sweaty,
there's not enough memory for music, the camera is good and it takes
videos which the e800 didnt have but i dont like the display and the
menu is taking me ages to figure out which wasnt a problem with samsung.
Not a bad phone but certainly not as attractive as it looks.
