Nokia 6080 review

 Review: November 2006

Rating: 2 stars

In a nutshell: The Nokia 6080 is a very slightly updated version of the Nokia 6070.

Review

It's an entry-level camera phone with a smart, simple design. The design is virtually the same as the 6070, and the features are almost identical.

The features of this phone are limited: a basic camera and video recorder, a stereo FM radio, small memory (4.3 Mbytes of user memory), no Bluetooth connection. The phone's best selling point is its looks - it's undeniably smart. You might also consider the Motorola L6 or Sony Ericsson K310i as alternatives.

My dad had this phone back in 2007 till 2009 when he decided to go 3G. There's this particular polyphonic ringtone he had on and been trying to look for it like everywhere but haven't got it coz I don't remember the name. Anyone with a list of the names of the ringtones on this phone? I'll appreciate a lot.

Its an excellent phone. I bought my 6080 at 2007..!! never had any problem at all! I saw reviews saying: it keeps beeping and self made calls..just cos they dont know what they doing with the mobile..- i tell you folks the secret: DONT PUSH TO YOUR FACE DURING TALK!!! Just keep it away a little or use earphone or loudspeaker. problem solved. Those peoples should use the original Nokia 1610 from 1990 - not this.

I've had it for a year, and have had no key[ad problems at all...the buttons took some getting used to, but now it's fine...It's pretty sturdy - I'm such a butterfingers and a clumsy person...I've dropped it countless times and it's survived them all. The camera quality isn't amazing, but to be honest, I don't particularly care...as long as it texts and phones people, I'm happy. Would like a larger memory, but it's a standard cheapish phone...can't really expect more from it to be honest...If you want a flash phone, then don't go for it, but if your happy to settle for something that just phones and texts, then it's ideal really.

there's a lot to like about this phone and I"ll be keeping mine, hopefully for a long time. But the thing that I absolutely hate about this phone is that the screen is too dark. I cannot read it in the sunshine - I have to shade it with my hand and hold it very close to my face in order to see what's on the screen if I"m outside. That really sucks.

I bought the phone from rogers. The phone is great, and so far I have not had a problem with the keypad. For the price I paid ($65) I dont believe you can get a better phone. Who really needs blue tooth or additional memory? Is that how pathetic your life is? The phone is just that - to make and receive calls. Nokia sell other phones with expandable memory and 5 megapixel cameras, if that would make your self-worth go up, then feel free to buy those more expensive phones, just pay the price.

This phone is perfect if you are a buisness guy. But if you like playing on things like bluetooth and your camera this would not be the phone for you. Firstly, this phone has no bluetooth or a good quality camera. You can't see the screen when you are in the sun, i have restored the factory settings to get some more memory but i only end up getting 3mb, it says on nokia.co.uk that it has 16mb. Secondly, the basic wallpaper is terrible quality and their are rubbish themes! Nevertheless, the phone battery is amazing. it can last for up to 300 hours on standby! Overall this phone is ok.

Alan from Folkingham Lincs. Very interested to read Jessicas experience with the 6080. My wife has one and it works perfectly. So I bought one from a well known outlet on High Street Grantham. I like the phone, nice to handle and easy to use but mine had the self same fault as Jessica's, bleeping with random numbers appearing on a white screen. Each time it bleeped I was cut off so to the receiver of the call it sounded as though the signal was breaking up. On retuning three times to the outlet I was made to look like an idiot in front of a shop full of people saying it is the way you old people hold a phone. They would never accept that there was anything wrong. However by contacting the appropriate office in London, I had much better treatment, I was given a credit to collect a new phone. I was not going to go back to Grantham so collected my new 6080 from Spalding. I could not believe it when I got home and it had the same fault. I thought it must be me until a friend suggested looking at this site a nd lo I was not the only one. I rang the Spalding Shop and without hesitation they said they will replace it, what a difference in attitude. Many thanks for the chance to share experiences.

Unfortunately I bought a Nokia 6080. I have had to return to CPWarehouse 6 times to complain about this model. It was bought in December 2007 and today after 3 replacement 6080`s Nokia has finally agreed to change the phone model.Apparently their policy is that even if their product is defective Nokia insist that the phone is replaced 3 times before they will change the model; they would not make a refund. They must think that we customers have nothing better to do than visit shops to complain about a defective product. Each of the three phones had the same problem, that is when you are making or receiving a call the numbers dial automatically making a beep noise. However the real problem is that when you are trying to leave a message on somebody`s mailbox the automated mailbox system receives the numbers that you have not pressed and reacts accordingly, perhaps even closing down the message. The numbers it dials itself are generally 6 or 5 sometimes once or twice but often many many times during the call. If the phone is pay as you go you will have problems inputting the voucher numbers as unpressed numbers keep dialling. On the third phone exchange the CPW salesman said he thought it was an incompatibility issue between the phone and the sim card; however I replaced my husband`s simcard in the phone and he tried it for a week but had the same problem. My simcard worked on his different phone. Nokia apparently are in denial that there is a problem with this phone, however in my experience I have had 3 phones now with the same fault.I will leave you to decide whether to buy this type of phone. If you look at the varios chat rooms there are many people with the same complaint about this model. Why don`t Nokia just admit the problem and replace the offending products without all this resistance.

I've managed to drop it several times, one time being a full one floor and it has never blacked out. Today it fell into a toilet and even though it was there for a little while it never stopped working, so it's also waterproof! If it had more memory and bluetooth I would honestly not think about replacing it for a while. PS:I have never had the self-pressing buttons problem.

To sum it up, if you're looking for a really fancy phone, you need to be elsewhere. I've had this phone for about an year now, and that's all it is to me. A phone, and i must say, it looks stunning. On the downside, there's no bluetooth and no memory, it does have an IR port, which means it can interface with Sony, although I don't quite see the point in that. It looks hot, but you have to be really careful with it. It doesn't have changeable faceplates, so you're stuck with the black thing for the rest of the phones' life and it's prone to getting scratched (smooth as it is). A potential problem, is that you can't see jack in the daylight. You just get this sort of film over it and all you can see is your bloody face. That's the one major downside i can think of now. The camera is on of the best VGA cameras I've seen, but please please keep them on the phone and don't send em to your computer, they're not meant to be. Another irritant is the charger, but I guess it's getting better since all the N series sport the same thin charger, The headset that they provide with this is simply outstanding, and i love the buttong, including volume control, PTT, voice activation and integrated radio station changer. The headset is a beauty. Very sturdy and stable, what it can do, it will do well. It looks and feels rock solid, i've dropped it a coupla times too. So if a phone is what your looking for, a phone is what you'll get. And the camera is less disappointing than a 1.3 MP. So if you don't mind the minor irritants, please consider this phone. That's only if all you want is a phone, for christs sake!!!

But it puts Nokia quite low in the sense that there's no bluetooth connectivity! stick a label on the discrete Nokia brand (on both sides please, call it what you wish and use...till you find someone daft enough with whom to sell!

A good looking phone but really difficult to use outdoors. If it is bright the screen becomes so dark you can hardly see anything on it! As for taking a photo, I had to point and hope for the best! Why does it have to have a darkened screen? Have never had this trouble with any other Nokia phone I have used. Very disappointed.

The phone looks very nice, however the buttons are very annoying to use and the overall feeling of the phone is very cheap. The back of the phone is very thin and would probably break easily. However I do like the screen, it is large and easy to view, the sound quality from the phone is good, loud speaker works well. I paid 33 which also included a 10 topup. I would not recommend this phone if you are looking for something to last any longer than a year. Or if you will be sending alot of txt's as buttons are very uncomfortable.

This is a very good, cheap phone. I have a digital camera and an mp3 player, so to have this on my phone would be daft. Its lovely to text on. Loud speaker is excellent, works from large distances. So your brain doesn't get fried. Very easy to use. Still has some good features for you to play about with. It looks good too, in my opinion. If you want a phone to simply be a phone; with some wee add ons (just so you don't feel like a dinosaur) then I would highly recommend the Nokia 6080.

THIS PHONE IS THE BEST! I got this phone about a week ago, and it is really good! it looks awesome, has unique bars instead of keys (which is something new). I love how big and 'rectangular' the screen is as opposed to the normal square small screens. It makes me feel really comfortable. Even though it lacks some of the main features that modern phones have, a phone is used for texting and calling and storing numbers. sure, the bluetooth and camera stuff will be appealing at first, but after a day or two, it won't really matter, since you'll only be texting and calling people. what all those other gadgets are for is just to appeal to the audience and try and sell it. i borrowed money from my parents to buy this...im $188 BND in dept, sadly =(.... I LOVE THIS PHONE! I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE! you dont need bluetooth, cameras, mp3 players and stuff on a phone! thats why i have my IPOD and my digital camera for! all those other things are just a waste... 1000/10!!!!!!!

With this price range it is a good phone. But also I feel like been cheated by NOKIA. As I was told when purchased from Carrefore Hyper in Jeddah - that it had Pop-Port connectivity. But when I opened the pack - found no cable - no CD for software. I was able to connect the cable that I use with my 7610 but it did not work. I called Nokia's so called "technical executive" who in fact surprised me with the news that it needs a special USB cable (CA-42) which has a sort of firmware in it. And the price of the original Nokia cable (CA-42)is almost half the price of phone itself. And on the top of it - it is not available anywhere in Jeddah. I have checked with Al-Haddad and Xicom and all the shop at Palistine road and Sharafia as well as at the Hail st. mobile phone market. In Jeddah if you add the price of 6080 with its ca-42 cable's price you can easily have 7610 which not only have cable and software but also has better resolution, a lot more memory and an excellent music. This is the Nokia's speciality that there are a lot lot of models in Nokia. and if you check carefully each one's features and compare them with their prices - you will get easily confused as to how they price their models. So if any readers has got any suggestions - please let me know.

this phone's best quality is its looks which is really sleek. and the price is okay for the average guy. stereo is okay. but the disadvantages are quite a few--poor memory. poor cam. no blue tooth. i dont know why it got all these raving reviews. i recommend a potential buyer to look around.
