Nokia 6020 Review
Phone rating:
Review: May 2005.
The Nokia 6020 is a mid-range business-orientated camera phone with a decent
range of features.
The 6020 has a sensible keypad design and is a compact size. The joystick and
rectangular keypad layout make it easy to use, and the menus are also intuitive,
making it easy to access the phone's functions. The personal organiser is well
thought-out, with an extensive calendar function to manage your daily schedules,
meetings, and events. Voice commands, an integrated handsfree speaker and fast
data access complete the essential functions needed by most business users.
The phone comes with a basic digital camera and a camcorder capable of recording
video clips of up to 50 seconds, but imaging is not the 6020's strongest point.
The small display with a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels is inadequate for a
phone of this type and is one of the poorest in any phone of this class. Connectivity
is also quite basic, with Bluetooth being an obvious ommission.
It seems that the 6020 is intended to be a budget business phone, but it might
have been more successful if the camera and camcorder had been ommitted and
a Bluetooth wireless connection and larger screen added. The 6020 is trying
to be a jack of all trades, but is master of none.
Features of the Nokia 6020 include:
- Display: 65,536 colours, 128 x 128 pixels
- Integrated VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels)
- Camcorder for clips up to 50 seconds
- Dedicated Push to Talk button
- Joystick
- Voice Features: voice dialing, voice commands, voice recorder
- Integrated handsfree speaker
- 16-voice polyphonic ringtones
- SMS, MMS, email (POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP), instant messaging
- Predictive text
- Downloadable Java applications
- Personal organiser with extensive calendar and contacts
- xHTML browser
- Mobile wallet
- WAP, GPRS, HSCSD, EGPRS (up
to 177.6 kbps)
- Connectivity: USB
- Triband
- Size: 106 x 44 x 20 mm
- Weight: 90g
- Talktime: 3 hours
- Battery standby: up to 14 days

Hi .. a different kind of review I think but I thought I might do it
.. as it might help a few people. Here it comes .. I have Parkinsons
and have to take medication punctally 5x a day. For a long time I have
been looking for a small device where I can set alarms for that often
.. nobody could help me, not even 'professionals' with Virgings, where
I bought my mobile from. People will understand my delight when by playing
around with my Nokia 6920 I found this facility in MEETINGS - I have
now set up an alarm that happily and loudly chimes and vibrates 5x a
day and to crown it all the repeat function allows me to keep this function
eternally .. almost that is if I do not change the mob. I am happy allround
with my nokia, except for memory < too little, the screen < too small
and the camera < lens is not strong/sharp enough. By the way . is anybody
out there who could explain to an old lady [that's ME] how to save images
from the nokia 6020 via ifrared to my laptop? I would be so grateful.

This is an excellent phone for what I need it for. Has a great mix between
tech-savvy features (such as all the messaging options, infrared, push-to-talk)
and novelty features such as the camera. Memory is too small, however
to make the camera and recordings really useful. It's a great quality
phone with a sensible design. I've been looking for a no-bull phone

I got this mobile last August for a birthday present. I was very surprised
(a good surprise) that it had a very good battery life. I am a school
girl and have my mobile on 24/7 and the phone still managed to last
5 days without charging!! I want the Samsung E350 in pink next as I
think it looks and sounds great - one thing I didn't look at in detail
was the look of the phone as it does look rather business like and it
isn't really the look I wanted, but that is my own fault for not looking!!
Altogether this is a great phone with many good features and because
it being a Nokia it has a great menu. If you like Nokia and you want
some fun features buy this mobile and go for it!! :-)

which are ten times better then this one but if your looking for a basic
phone then this is for you. at first i thought it was brilliant but
as i got to know it more it turns out it's not worth the money. the
memory is sooo little you can only store upto 40 pictures and thats
when you have a video on your phone. because its shared memory. if you
just want it to look good and for answering calls then its good but
if your buying it because of the camera then don't bother!

I'm finding my 6020 quite good. Unlike many people, I like my phone
to first and foremost be a good communications device -that is a good
phone and text messaging platform. I have little use for games, themes,
wallpapers, custom ringtones etc. The only extra I get any mileage out
of is the camera. So for me, this phone is decent. I find it attractive,
and it makes/recieves calls. The camera is average, which is to say
it takes pictures but it's no Nikon. I'm quite happy with it.

The phone is quite attractive and has many features but lacks Bluetooth
and MP3. The camera quality is only average at best and the phone memory
is very limited. Ring tones are polyphonic but lack the sound quality
that other phones have. Call quality is OK and battery life is good.
It's easy to use and has a joystick for easy navigation through the
menu system. The phone also seems quite tough. It's been dropped a few
times in the street and apart from scratches, it hasn't broken or fallen
to pieces and still works fine. If you want a good set of features for
your money, then this phone is OK. If you want quality sound, large
memory and perhaps Bluetooth and MP3, look elsewhere.

If I had to sum this phone up, then I'd say it's pretty bad. I actually
received the phone as an upgrade and an extension to my T-Mobile contract.
I had the Sharp TM100 which is much more better in terms of meory size,
screen size and the picture quality was mind blowing. I feel with the
6020, the picture quality is mediocre bordering on rubbish and after
taking a couple of shots, the memory vanishes. Theres no option to extend
the memory via SD and the Video Recorder only captures upto around a
minute of recording. It has no Bluetooth and connectivity is only the
outdated IrDa port and EDGE/EGPRS which doesn't make much of a difference
to this phone because you still require the memory for some serious
video streaming, which is becoming more standard on most next gen phones.
But NO, not this phone. Easy. Safe. Laters rude bwoys and gals!!

The Nokia 6020 is quite a good phone. It's a great improvement on the
6610i which I had before. Pros: Display is clear and bright. Photo quality
is not bad. The same goes for video recordings (although jerky). You
can change the message tone to any ringtone. Some mobile phones (e.g.
Samsung, Sony Ericsson) limit you to only a few tones. Very user-friendly
Easy to type SMS's. The T9 dictionary stays switched off if you switch
it off. Shortcut keys Very useful calendar Good sound quality Voice
recorder Message/SMS counter Most games you download work on Nokia phones.
Can play .amr and .mid tones. Stopwatch, countdown timer, calculator
You can download any size wallpaper and it will stretch to fill the
screen. Profiles you can customise (not only Silent). The alarm rings
even when the phone is switched off. Cons: You cannot change the reminder
tone. You can also not set the duration and volume of the alarm, message
and reminder tones, as you can on the Sharp GX15. Mine is not a Vodafone.
Get a Vodafone! Push to Talk is not functional in South Africa. If you
press the joystick by accident to the right, the PTT groups appear.
Small memory (only 2.5 MB) The phone cannot play .mmf and .mp3 tones.
The display is not clear in sunlight. The backlight switches off too
quickly, and you cannot do anything about it. Some phones allow you
to specify how long you want the backlight to stay switched on. No flashlight
I don't regret buying this phone.

I am using this phone for a month now and i think this is a good buy
considering the price paid for. The phone looks really sexy and the
picture quality is great than the average phone and even better when
compared with some of those high-priced phones. Keypad is good and the
excellent part about this phone is the voice quality, simply great.
camcorder, not really fascinating as you can't expect it to be in a
mobile phone of this price range. Battery life is good. lasts upto 4
days. Voice recorder is the plus point too and you can record songs
and music and then create your own ringtones too and fits in pocket
easily too. the bad thing about this phone is "nokia should have thought
of something about the dirt problem in the screen. It really gets dirty
in few days and one more thing unconvincing is it is hard to read in
sunlight and in fluorescent light. all in all, a good phone with SOME
features. (blue tooth and a slightly larger screen would be better instead
of camcorder if nokia wants to make this phone rated "A"). it deserves
4/5 stars.

I've been using this phone for about a month now, it's the first one
I've owned with integrated camera. It's a BASIC phone yet it does many
things very well. The camera is VGA (640x480) but it has surprising
good colour balance, even indoors under incandescent lighting (My Olympus
C8080 takes orangey pictures in AUTO, while the Nokia's overall color
balance looked better, a pleasant surprise). The beauty of having this
built-in camera capability is that you can pretty well take a picture
anywhere you are, then share your experience with someone else by sending
it immediately to another mobile phone or to an email address, then
they'll see what you are seeing. Same goes for recorded sounds (sounds
are almost impossible to share with a PC though, it uses the .amr sound
format not recognized by the usual PC players). Get the CA-42 cable
to transfer pictures and backup your data to PC (Nokia wants an arm
and a leg for this cable, but you can find clone ones for one-third
the pric e). Volume of audio is a bit on the low side, and so is memory
which is non-expandable. Like I said, it is a basic phone for a budget
price and one should not expect unreasonable performance at this price
point. I also like the candy bar shape, and the fact that no antenna
is protruding. Easily fits in your pocket. I attached a camera strap
to it because it has slippery surfaces and is easy to drop. Battery
life is excellent, it lasts me about 4 days even after constant playing
with all the features. A good unit, I'm very pleased with it.

starters, I just want to say a better alternitive is the Sony Ericsson

Like said in this price range, the features are great. Theres alot of
other phones in the same price range, which dont offer a camera, a TFT
65k screen, and video. The screen is ok, but it does get washed out
in direct sunlight, and on occastion, I have had trouble reading it
in flourescent lighting. The camera is of standard VGA (640*480) resolution
which wont make a very good digital camera, but then again, its in a
low priced entry phone, but pictures are good enough quality to send
as MMS. The video recording is ok, good for sending as MMS there too.
(Although the length is extremly limited) The sound quality is actually
above average in this phone. Something I found very pleasing. I could
hear even though there was alot of background noise. (living in oslo
is just like New York. Think of all the cars, people talking etc.) The
standard PIM features are good. Has a calender with simple reminders
and such. Phone book is ok, lets you store quite a few numbers. (I have
had 232 contacts on my phone!) The memory is the biggest gripe Ive had
about this phone, at only 2,5mb, your not going to be taking to many
pictures, filming too much, or recieiving alot of MMS. (which really
bites the big one, because theres alot of MMS messeges id love to save.)
You can however sync this phone with your computer although your computer
needs an infrared port. You could also sync it with a cable. (either
option wouldnt cost more then 20$ us.) So overall, this phone is pretty
good for being a low priced entry mobile phone. I give it 4 out of five
stars. Had it 5mb memory at LEAST...you could expect a five star rating!
Until next time =)

This phone is absolutely great. No more or less fiddly than any other,
with an easy to use menu system, simple to access text facility (slightly
to easy as my 2yr old keeps texting my friends), and good quality camera.
Not entirely sure why people are hammering this phones picture quality.
It's not the sharpest camera in the world, but it's perfectly adequate,;
if you want high quality digital pictures, buy a camera. Video isn't
excellent but it's a mobile phone, I didn't expect it to be up to Lucasarts
standard. Quite simply a good all round phone.

I bought this phone on impulse out of necessity, and I could've done
a lot worse. It's small, handy, easy to use keyad, though the stick
is annoyingly fiddly. It has a shared memory, so the more videos you
take, the fewer pics you can store, texts, etc. It also seems to slow
down when it gets very full. It's obvious that this is a cut-down version
of the 6230, for a phone it's great. The camera is horrible in my opinion,
grainy and out-dated by most newer cameraphones out there. Pitiful pixel
count. I would've waited for the 6021 if time hadn't been so tight in
my case. It's a fully featured, small, light professional looking phone
- note I said phone, not camera/camcorder or music player (it hasn't
got one). I like mine because of just that, it's a good phone. Good
battery life so far, screen is difficult to read in some light, and
it gets very dusty in there, you have to periodically open it up and
wipe it if you keep it in your pocket or anywhere dusty. Don't get this
if you want to show it off. It's not flash.

zoom, and the time of 50 seconds for the video player is very respectable.
The other features of the phone are also very good, the games are good,
and the phone is also a very good looking one, and a good size. The
only thing stopping me giving it the full five stars is that it doesn't
have bluetooth. If it did have bluetooth it would be a truely outstanding

After much comparing of models I finally decided on the 6020 and am
glad I did. For a start it looks classy - no garish colours or logos.
Simple, easy to navigate menu, it is a joy to use. Light and compact
with a superb keypad and innovative joystick which makes dialling/texting
soooo easy. And if you want long battery life without the hassle of
forever re-charging, then this is the one for you. The only thing that
stops me giving a five-star rating is the screen size (could have been
just a bit bigger) and picture quality is not as good as some I've seen,
but hey, you get what you pay for and this really is worth every penny.
Highly recommended.

I really like using Nokia phones which is why I decided to upgrade to
the 6020 recently. However, I returned it after just 2 days because
of the sheer mediocrity of the thing. Compared with other phones of
comparable price out there in the market it does nothing. No bluetooth,
no MP3, no FM Radio! I think the guuys at Nokia are trading on their
name a bit too much here. Fair enough it's a middle of the range phone
but when you look at what you can get for the same money (Sony Ericsson
K700i for example) why would you want such a bog-standard model? On
the plus side it is very easy to use (as are all Nokia phones) and it
does look good.

Having been subjected to the Motorola E1000 for a couple of months this
phone is quite a welcome change. Don't expect anything too flash here.
The colour screen is not amazing, it wont handle anything more than
8 channel MIDI and the camera is only VGA. But this isn't a phone for
those looking for a swanky new toy. Its a phone, it does exactly what

Just bought the Nokia 6020 mobile phone. The first thing I found attractive
about this phone was it's looks. Then I was amazed by the ammount of
features on it. Video recording, good quality pics, ear piece sound
quailty, etc. Nokia were losing the plot recently, but are definitly
clawing back with this lovely model. It's obvious though that they are
attemptimg to 'take on' Sony Ericson with the 6020. I notice also that
this cheaper model compares very well with the more expensive 6230 which
I find impressive. I have always been a Nokia user so my review will
be a bit biased. However, SE are starting to look very inticing.....

To start with looks, and it is def a 5 star.(eat your heart out Sony-E)Nothing
but admiring glances from everyone who sees it. Phone actually feels
sturdier than you imagine it will be as well. Buttons are great to use,
feels as if they are long lasting and so easy to master. Colours and
screen? Well after coming from a 7250i, you can see such a difference,
and after all, if I wanted to take quality pictures, I would use my
own digital camera!!!Only fault I find with the camera is position of
the lens, everytime I use the phone to speak, find myself wiping the
lens to make sure it is clean. Ring tones are great, but so loud!! Early
days yet using the phone, bu is looking good. Looks like Nokia have
finally got their act together and can take on Sony-E in all aspects!!!
If you want a new phone, would not put you off the 6020, in fact would
encourage you to go for it.
