Nokia 6020 review

 Review: May 2005

Rating: 2 stars

In a nutshell: The Nokia 6020 is a mid-range business-orientated camera phone with a decent range of features.

Compare prices | User reviews

The 6020 has a sensible keypad design and is a compact size. The joystick and rectangular keypad layout make it easy to use, and the menus are also intuitive, making it easy to access the phone's functions. The personal organiser is well thought-out, with an extensive calendar function to manage your daily schedules, meetings, and events. Voice commands, an integrated handsfree speaker and fast data access complete the essential functions needed by most business users.

The phone comes with a basic digital camera and a camcorder capable of recording video clips of up to 50 seconds, but imaging is not the 6020's strongest point. The small display with a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels is inadequate for a phone of this type and is one of the poorest in any phone of this class. Connectivity is also quite basic, with Bluetooth being an obvious ommission.

It seems that the 6020 is intended to be a budget business phone, but it might have been more successful if the camera and camcorder had been ommitted and a Bluetooth wireless connection and larger screen added. The 6020 is trying to be a jack of all trades, but is master of none.

Nokia 6020 features include:

  • Display: 65,536 colours, 128 x 128 pixels
  • Integrated VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels)
  • Camcorder for clips up to 50 seconds
  • Dedicated Push to Talk button
  • Joystick
  • Voice Features: voice dialing, voice commands, voice recorder
  • Integrated handsfree speaker
  • 16-voice polyphonic ringtones
  • SMS, MMS, email (POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP), instant messaging
  • Predictive text
  • Downloadable Java ™applications
  • Personal organiser with extensive calendar and contacts
  • xHTML browser
  • Mobile wallet
  • WAP, GPRS, HSCSD, EGPRS (up to 177.6 kbps)
  • Connectivity: USB
  • Triband
  • Size: 106 x 44 x 20 mm
  • Weight: 90g
  • Talktime: 3 hours
  • Battery standby: up to 14 days

Hi! my husband bought this phone for me as birthday present on March 2004 and I've been using this phone for more than 6 years now..am quite contented with its features, though it has lesser memory but in general, its usage is very satisfactory for me.It's so amazing that my husband(used another brand)had change his phone 3x already due to phone damages and my 6020 still in good condition..even if it's always accidentally dropped on the floor by my 2 kids.. Although recently I'm a bit saddened because my phone is starting to have a defects-sometimes I couldn't be heard by my caller or vice versa, and sometimes charging of battery doesn't work. But am not planning yet to dispose it..as long as I can still use more of its features I'll continue using it..That's how I love my Nokia 6020!

A good phone with amazing lasting power! I have had this phone for over three years, and have never had any problems with it. I only use my mobile to phone and text from, this phone meets both this needs perfectly well. On top of this, the phone is extremely hardwearing. Not only has it survived being frequently dropped on the floor from various heights, it also once survived for days outside in the snow and rain. Amazing!

Its been repeately dropped, lost in bars, soaked, battered, bruised and sometimes even verbally abused! And it's still working! I got this phone to be a phone, not an mp3 player or digital camera or a coffee maker... but I think if I asked it nicely it would do the later! It does what it says on the tin and you can't fault that. It has done it's job better than any phone I've had before.

I bought this phone to have a general NOKIA. didn't go for reviews. I like this because of the JoyStick(makes it easy to use), InfraRed. Other features are not much worthy to talk about. It has a PTT(push to talk) button but in my country there's no such thing. Would have been better if PTT was available, as it would make a Radio type conference with ur buddy. I miss FM radio in it. if it had the FM radio it wont require the Video feature. the Camera would just be enough if u want a pic or two to upload to ur profile or the person u meet to have a photo id set to it. compared to other cheap phones its Camera is better. Memory expandibility is missing also. And also Bluetooth. If it had BlueTooth, More memory or expandable, FM radio I would call it Outstanding... It would have been a best buy for business guys who dont have time for silly things to explore in cellphones. I would really be glad if I could rate it more than 3 stars cuz I like it :)

Hi .. a different kind of review I think but I thought I might do it .. as it might help a few people. Here it comes .. I have Parkinsons and have to take medication punctally 5x a day. For a long time I have been looking for a small device where I can set alarms for that often .. nobody could help me, not even 'professionals' with Virgings, where I bought my mobile from. People will understand my delight when by playing around with my Nokia 6920 I found this facility in MEETINGS - I have now set up an alarm that happily and loudly chimes and vibrates 5x a day and to crown it all the repeat function allows me to keep this function eternally .. almost that is if I do not change the mob. I am happy allround with my nokia, except for memory < too little, the screen < too small and the camera < lens is not strong/sharp enough. By the way . is anybody out there who could explain to an old lady [that's ME] how to save images from the nokia 6020 via ifrared to my laptop? I would be so grateful.

I have little use for games, themes, wallpapers, custom ringtones etc. The only extra I get any mileage out of is the camera. So for me, this phone is decent. I find it attractive, and it makes/recieves calls. The camera is average, which is to say it takes pictures but it's no Nikon. I'm quite happy with it.

The phone is quite attractive and has many features but lacks Bluetooth and MP3. The camera quality is only average at best and the phone memory is very limited. Ring tones are polyphonic but lack the sound quality that other phones have. Call quality is OK and battery life is good. It's easy to use and has a joystick for easy navigation through the menu system. The phone also seems quite tough. It's been dropped a few times in the street and apart from scratches, it hasn't broken or fallen to pieces and still works fine. If you want a good set of features for your money, then this phone is OK. If you want quality sound, large memory and perhaps Bluetooth and MP3, look elsewhere.

I had this phone for a week and it's rubbish, a waste of money. I wish I never even saw let alone buy it. It can not do anything right not even charge. I returned thanks to my money back garantee. recomondations: turn a "blind eye". Pretend it's not there. I look for baisics in phones this don't even cover that.

I think that the Nokia 6020 is a really good phone. It has a reasonable quality camera and records film and voice well.Infa red is good, but quite slow really. It could do with having a bigger memory as not much fits on it and some folders sent from other phones are uncapable of being held but other than that it's great!!

IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT PHONE ONLY IF MEMORY WAS A LITTLE BIGGER. BUT STILL, ITS A GOOD PHONE. I WOULD RECOMMAND ANYONE TO BUY THIS ONE IF U WANT A PHONE WITH A DEVENT CAMERA,UP-TO-DATE TECHNOLOGY AND NICE LOOK. THE ONLY DRAWBACK IS THE MEMORY..I'D LIKE TO RATE IT 4 ON 5.

I purchased my new Nokia 6020 yesterday (9-02-'06) as an upgrade from a Siemens C60. I had my heart set on a Nokia 6021 but that is "Bill-Pay" only and I am a devout and practising follower of the "Pre-Pay" system! The 6020 is an instrument I am beginning to love and I think it deserves the five stars I am awarding it. I have read other reviews of other mobiles and I am stymied! How could an object such as a mobile phone be called "sexy"?

Wanted a basic business phone that syncs with Outlook for addressbook and contacts - this phone does it really well. Nokia's PC suite is fantastic!!! Personally, I would get rid of the camera and provide a bigger screen.
