Nokia 3510 Review
Phone rating:
Review: March 2003.
The Nokia 3510 was the replacement for the hugely-popular Nokia 3210/3310/3330
phones. Featuring an updated front panel design, the 3510 is the same
size as the older Nokias, but lighter.
Like the 3410, the Nokia 3510 has all of the features that made the
3210/33xx so popular - downloadable ringtones, Xpress-on covers
and great ease of use. But it introduces some new technology within
the familiar exterior. New features include polyphonic (MIDI) ringtones,
Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) and GPRS (fast,
always-on internet access).
The X-press-on covers available for the Nokia 3510 include some specialised
functional covers, such as the gaming cover. Snap on the gaming cover,
and you can really enjoy the 5 built-in games, which make good use of
the phone's polyphonic sound and vibration effects.
MMS means that you can receive multimedia messages containing text,
MIDI audio files, and graphics or animations. The Nokia 3510 was the
first Nokia to use this technology. The Nokia 3510 is able to receive
MMS messages, but not send them, so its use will be mainly in receiving
MIDI ringtones, graphics and screen savers.
The 3510 is not highly recommended, due to software reliability problems
and the fact that it's an old phone with a limited specification: try
the newer Nokia 3100 instead.
Features of the Nokia 3510 include:
- WAP, GPRS
- Predictive text messaging
- Picture messaging
- MMS
- Mobile chat
- 20 traditional ringtones plus 15 polyphonic ringtones, plus space
for 15+ customisable ringtones
- High resolution 4-line display
- Voice dialling
- Speed dialling
- Animated screen savers
- Phonebook (500 names)
- Changeable front and back covers
- 5 games - Kart Racing, Dance2Music, Space Impact 2, Bumper, Link
5
- Calendar, stopwatch, alarm clock, calculator
- Size: 118 x 50 x 21 mm
- Weight: 105g
- Battery standby: up to 300 hours
- Battery talktime: 2.5 - 4.5 hours
- Vibration alert
- Dual band

Well, I am also one of those offended by 1-star rating. I've had this
phone for years and then my mom. Guess what? A decade later it still
works like it's day 1: all original, original battery and everything.
Now that, kids, is truly hardcore! Now she says she's finally sick of
it, so I bought her a new touch screen one. Imagine that! It's like
being instantly transported from 2002 into 2012! As cool as it gets,
'cause by 2022 they're gonna be like: "What's a phone?" But hey, I told
my mom not to throw away my Nokia 3510 under any circumstances. I might
go to retro parties with it. I can shock everybody with my groovy polyphonic
ringtones (I got Nirvana, RHCP, all the good stuff!). Hell it might
be even worth getting it back, buying a new battery for it and showing
all those iPussies what a true non-conformist is! ;)

I don't know why you've only given this phone one star! I love it -
I'm glad it doesn't do anything fancy like email etc - I'm quite happy
to be incommunicado when I'm out of the office! And I have a camera
if I really want to take pictures. The fancier a gadget is, the more
there is to go wrong with it. I've dropped my phone, sat on it, trodden
on it, etc and it still works. Nuff said!

Must say I have used this phone for about 3 years on and off and never
suffered from any 'software reliability problems'. In fact this is the
most reliable phone I have ever owned, and has been a faithful standby
whenever any other model I possess fails me. Good battery life, reasonable
size, simple old school Nokia interface and tough as nails, not at all
a bad choice if you are looking for a backup phone or just a cheap model.

Ive had this phone for 3 or 4 years now and not any problems. It may
not compare to modern phones, but if all youre looking for in a mobile
phone is easy calling, texting, good battery life and light weight,
then the 3510 should be your choice. Another good thing is that it doesn't
support those earsplitting monophonic ringtones, instead it supports
polyphonic tones. You can change the cover as well. Good phone for your
pocket. Remember, this phone was re made in color if you like the look

After about 4 years of use, I am now saying goodbye to my Nokia 3510
but ONLY because I am going on contract now. My Nokia 3510 is just as
reliable as it was 4 years ago - I still only have to charge it about
once a week. I have NEVER had any problems/needed repairs compared to
my friend who has had to send in his new model phone for replacement
3 times already in the past year - which temporary replacement do they
give him when his phone is in repairs? Why the Nokia 3510 of course!
One word to describe the Nokia 3510 - RELIABLE. Being a clutz, I have
dropped this phone about 10 times a year - and that's only counting
the times it's casing has come apart when dropped. I've dropped it on
roads, on pavements, down the stairs - you name it! But it is so easy
to put back together and works just as new! Being a bit of a wannabe
fashionista, it no lie that the phone doesn't look that nice. And I
have had a few problems trying to fit it into tiny clutch bags. But
boy, is it light! That said, I can't wait for my contract fliptop phone
- that's just because I'm vain though. All the functions work 100% and
it is such a simple phone to use. I would recommend any people new to
mobile phones to buy this because it will ease you in gentle into the
mobile phone world. This is a phone for GRANNIES and CHILDREN - i particularly
stress children because I hate seeing them around nowadays with such
flashy stuff.

I then bought a 3510... I thought it was great. I have had it for 12
months. For the first four months, no problems. The list of problems:
When the battery is fully charged it randomly turns off and on While
writing txt message it shuts its self off When the battery is half full
I have to push the on button around 10 times before it will come on
While playing games it sometimes exits back to the main menu The only

to the poor durability of the keypad. It keeps wearing out, and I cannot

Utter rubbish. The keys are sticky, calls hang up spontaneously despite
software upgrades, when playing games the lag time between pressing
a button and getting an on-screen reaction renders them unplayable,
it's far too easier to outpace while texting, and is very badly organised
(for example, after replying to a text you have to delete everything
you've written before you get a "Back" option to delete the message

has been upgraded twice and its now had to be sent back to Nokia. The
back light stays on and the menu's keep skipping through the list even
when you only press the keypad once. I am getting fed up with this fault
now and the Warranty will soon run out. My Daughter's phone bought Three
months before mine and used a lot more has had no problem's at all Perhaps

I had this phone for a while, when it was still new and it doesnt deserve
some of the slating it has recieved. It is a pretty basic phone and
I wouldn't want one for myself anymore but that's because phones have
come a long way since I considered this phone to be worth having. For
a start I would recomend splashing out an extra few quid and getting
the colour 3510i, only about £75. It does hold a load of SMS that can
be organised into folders which is cool. Get this phone (well the 3510i)
for a kid or your missus, but I wouldn't recomend it to anyone else
unless you're tight and don't want to spend alot. It did occasionaly
play up for me by humming!, which required me to take out the battery,
but it is a nokia after all. I gave it to a m8 at this point, shortly
afterwards it was stolen.

Better than all the phones i've had put together. This phone is a beauty.
Its soo light for its size, polyphonic tones are excellent, i love em!
Texting is so easy. Its got everything you could possibly want in a
phone. The games are really good too. Why people have given it less
than a 3 is beyond me, but i'm sure i'll have this with me for a long
time to come. Absolutely outstanding..I recommend it to anyone :)

This phone is awesome. some people compare it to the 3310, and its nothin
like the 3310, in a different league all together. this is probably
the best black n white phone i've eva had. its nice, easy to use, battery
lasts for ages, polyphonics r nice. the reason y i gave it 4 star is
cos the GPRS sumtimes messes me about, but thats only cos i go through
poor signal areas, and also it would be nice with a colour screen (which
is the 3510i). all in all, a nice phone.

I bought 3 of these for my family, unfortunately only one still works!
They all have the same problem, the star button stops working? Still
using mine and it has some great features. The buttons were made for
my fat fingers and I can actually touch these buttons with ease. But
with the replacement button pads costing £20 each time, it is costly
to run. Its big brother the 3510i still has the same button problem.
Would be my 1st choice phone otherwise. Its best claim to fame has to
be the ability to store a lot of text messages. No need to start erasing
each time you recieve a text!

it started to shut down when someone called. I guess this is the same

I think I'll try to reset the software. (although I don't know what
exactly it means). Or I will throw it away. (Actually I liked this phone

of restarting itself every so often. Then whilst I am writing messages,

Just take a look at it`s outlook - awful, the old 3310 is much more
handsome! The poly tones are sh..., I compared it with my girlfriends
Samsung`s tones, and wanned to threw my Nokia out of window. And of
course the weight, it's like a brick in my pocket - one hundred nine
grams I guess it's too much for phone. And it's not stylish, even with
white light built by myself. The only good thing abaut it that the battery
is on for almost one week. I was happy when I sold it, very happy. Never

- what phone to by for replacement!?! Maybe Nokia 8310 or the trendy

I own a Nokia 3510 for 6 months now. The first thing I did when I bought
the phone was to upgrade the firmware to V.4.24. Using then the phone,
I never encountered any of the problems mentioned above in other people's
reviews. My impression so far is that this phone is an excellent one
for usage as a business phone with no fancy features! I think that this
phone has been underestimated so far! It does perfectly its job and
the nice thing about it, is the battery's long time between charges
(usually once a week). I also installed a 1100mAh aftermarket battery
and charging period has been increased to 8-9 days (including a 40-minute
talk time in between)! That's an excellent performance, which I value
a lot! I use the phone just for talking, sending SMS and calendar notes.
For those 3 things, the 3510 has performed excellent for me! The display
is nice, the automatic keylock feature is good, the digital clock screen-saver
is big, the phone's keypad is very good and well- backlit, and the phonebook's
memory one of the biggest in its class (I have appr. 400 contacts with
1100 phone numbers in it). It lacks IRDA interface but one can buy a
connection cable to have PC-phone communication. Leaving behind all
these marketing-appealing, eye-catching, tantalizing advertised fancy
features that phone manufacturers bombard us every day in order to rush
and go buy a new model(e.g. radio, camera, covers, images, melodies,
pictures, games, etc, etc) the 3510 is just a perfect PHONE when using
it as a phone and not as something else! It has excellent reception,
good quality sound, large phonebook and very long battery life! I am
totally satisfied with this phone (from the point of using it as a "mobile
phone" and not as a do-it-all-around device).

Hmmm........... After owning various Nokia mobiles since 1996 this,
unfortunately, is the one I have had problems with. Phone was only 3
months old when it suffered a 'software failure', the unit was repeatedly
cutting out in the middle of a call, whilst on WAP, or texting. Seems
that, on reading past reviews on this phone, it's a common occurrence!
Had the software re-set and touch wood, I've had no problems with it
yet. But apart from that, ringtones are poor, both on quality and volume
(is this really the first ever Nokia with polyphonic ringtones?!), can't
get used to the awkward keypad design, outer case colours (on UK Orange
network) are rather strange aswell. Only plus points of this phone I
can think of is the weight of it (pretty light-ish) and the excellent
battery life on a full charge. Word of warning, though - I'm on the
Orange network with this phone and I explained to them the problems
I was experiencing. They asked me if I had their 'Orange Care' insurance
(which I haven't) and they went all unhelpful on me........
