Nokia 3310 review

 Review: March 2003

Last updated October 2004

Rating: 1 star

In a nutshell: The classic Nokia "brick" phone!

Compare prices | User reviews

The Nokia 3310 has been one of the most popular mobiles of all time, so it seems mean to award it just one star. However, the truth is that the 3310 cannot compare with modern phones: it's big and heavy, has hardly any features, mediocre battery life, and is not as reliable as many people would like to believe. The newer Nokia 3100 is a much better choice.

Nokia 3310 features include:

  • Predictive text messaging
  • 35 ringtones plus ringtone composer plus customisable ringtones
  • Voice activated dialling
  • Data capability
  • Downloadable games
  • Animated screen savers
  • Changeable front and back covers
  • Size: 113 x 48 x 22 mm
  • Weight: 133g
  • Battery standby: 55 - 260 hours
  • Battery talktime: 2.5 - 4.5 hours
  • Vibration alert
  • Dual band

well I repalced my galaxy S3 with the 3310

best phone ever, 1 week battery life etc
just better in every way...

the galaxy S3 already has bricked screen, takes 5sec to open contacts menu (nokia takes 0.5seconds)
the galaxy s3 alarm really annoying
no annoying with 3310

3310 can open beer without getting scratches

so 3310 is back

I had a Nokia 3310 in 1999 when they first came out, I loved it. Changing covers and ringing people and who can forget snake.

I have since then had various smartphones and PDAs. I loved the functionality of facebook, applications and various other features of the smartphones but....

I HAVE GONE BACK TO THE RELIABLE, STRONG and EASY TO USE 3310!

Still using it in 2014!

if you buy a new battery you get half the weight of the phone. so now it weighs the same as a modern smartphone, not like a brick anymore. and yet the unoriginal battery still performs 50% better than the original battery so you get 1-2weeks battery life. original is only 900mah! with a smartphone you get 1 hour lol never getting a smartphone again, back to 3310 myself too. I got a new battery for mine, "3310 li ion battery 1400mah" on google to find. only prob now my phone is too light! feels cheap being too light. I might have to mod mine to weigh more, I want 50% more weight!

I drop it while calling in the car driving at 120k/m STILL WORKS! Then accidentaly drive over it when turning back to get it STILL WORKS! I drop it in toilet STILL WORKS! I smash against someones head who tried to steal it STILL WORKS. This phone you can do anything with it and it will STILL WORK! Unlike moderen phones where they are weaklings. this model served me weel many years ago before I decided to go with a more modern handset. Nokia N95 (faulty). Samsung D600 (faulty) . 3 different models of stupid blackberrys (faulty with rediculously poor battery life) . Then it seemed my problems were over when I heard such good reviews about i phones. NO! . Excellent idea but give me a shout when there finished because guess what (FAULTY!!!). The 3310 came out of the draw, charged up without switching off or crashing, and lasted a full day at work with a number of different calls from customers. Modern phones seem to do everything and then when you go to make a phone call you get - SEARCHING FOR 3G PLEASE WAIT. NO!. Just give me a phone that repeatedly makes phone calls doesnt switch its self off and doesnt have a camera. i have a camera. if i am going somewhere i think i may need to take a picture i will take a camera!!! well done Nokia, you possibly made one of the best phones of all time.

Yes, the date of this review is correct. After putting my 6300i through a 60degC wash with dirty nappies six months ago it finally gave up the ghost yesterday. What to do? Go and buy another over complicated mobile phone for £££s or do something else? I opted for doing something else. I don't need internet access or bluetooth, so I went in the attic and dug out the 3310 from its slumber. Battery charged, sim card in and I'm back. It works, the ringtones are LOUD and I can send and receive text messages. Apart from sending daft pictures, I can do everything I did before (Facebook is the forum for daft pictures nowadays). Awesome phone.

i had this phone when i was 7 as my first phone wen it came out and i still love it today! ive had loads of modern phones over the years, but this lcd "brick" phone has got to have its credit! its a great phone and even thou people call it the "brick" it doesnt mean it is as heavy or chunky as one! its quiet slim and not heavy at all in fact it fits in ur pocket nicely and very hard wearing. ive dropped mine millions of times wen i was little but its still kept going!it has a range of cases you can buy to customise it and the games are such classic ones. eg smake 2 is such a fun arcade game of the 70's its hard to put down and the ringtones are great too. it has a good loudspeaker, stores a good amount of contact numbers, good large font and takes up to 4 pages per text! overall a great phone! reviewed by becky aged 19

All good. Physically impossible to break. I remember being 11 and wanting a new phone, and trying to break it - I failed. I have Nokia 5800 Music Xpress these days and it's giving me trouble, so I tend to use my old 3310, sooo much better. Oh and you get to play snake :P SUCH A GOOD GAME!

ok, am gonna review the worst phone in the world: here i go. basically the 3310 has no features, rubbish battery life, and is just about the most awful phone you can get. It has really high levels of radiation, and vibrates in your ear when trying to make a call. I got this phone for free off my granny, when even she had moved on... i needed one of sorts and this was the one i got. i find it embarrasing having the loud, blaring ringtones go off in my pocket and i get all sorts of 'join the 21st century' stares when i pull it out. The pin number does not work and neither does the call barring service. for ten quid you are much better off getting the simple but functional motofone f3. PS. I have just bought the iphone, which of course is a hundred and one times better, but i have not had time to review it yet. have a look soon. PPS. I gave it one whole star coz that's the lowest but it doesnt deserve even that...

I mean seriously what on earth could honestly go wrong with it? I don't think there's enough features to go wrong on it is there? And i always will love the fact you can change the cover on the Nokia 3310. You can't do that on modern phones in 2007! I most definatly would recomend this phone. I bought my Nokia 3310 off a friend when he upgraded. It's only the second mobile I've owned, and I have no complaints whatsoever. It does what it was designed to do. You can't expect any more than that.

I can't believe you gave this phone just one star! Sure it's a bit dated (heavy, bulky and lacking features), but the reception strength and call quality are the best of any phone I've had. Also, since it was so popular, replacement parts are cheap and easy to find.

Had this phone for 5 years now and never had any problems with it. The battery is starting to play up and doesn't last as long as it used to but the buttons and shell casing are still in perfect form. I am thinking of getting another mobile but I'll still probably go for on of Nokia's basic ones they've just released in 2006 cause there're so reliable and so easy to use. 3310 is easily the best mobile of the early 2000's.
