Nokia 3220 Review
Review: October 2004. Updated August 2008.
The Nokia 3220 is being marketed as a fun camera phone, targeted at
the youth sector.
The 3220 is a surprisingly slimline phone, and lightweight too. It
has a nice chunky feel and there's a wide range of Xpress-on shells
available for customising the phone. You can also make your own cut-out
covers, just like the Nokia 3200.
The screen, whilst small, has 65,000 colours, and the phone has an
integrated digital camera that takes reasonable quality pictures. You
can also take video clips. Both the screen and the camera quality are
much better than the Nokia 3200, although not in the same league as
competitors like the Sharp GX15 or Sony
The 3220 comes with a number of "fun" features, such as lights
that flash in time with ringtones, as well as during games and other
kinds of phone functions. This is particularly effective at night. MMS
messages can be animated with one of the cute characters provided.
The Nokia 3220 builds on the success of the popular 3200, and should
be a popular phone for young people. it's just a shame that there's
no radio included.
Features of the Nokia 3220:
- Integrated VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels)
- Colour screen (65k colours, 128 x 128 pixels)
- Xpress-on grips
- Downloadable themes: wallpaper, screensaver, and ringing tone, animated
- Cut-out covers
- MIDI polyphonic ringtones with synchronized lights
- Integrated handsfree speaker
- Java games
- Multimedia Messaging (MMS)
- Instant messaging
- XHTML browser
- Pop-port connector
- Size: 105 x 44 x 19 mm
- Weight: 86g
- Battery standby: up to 15 days
- Talktime: 3.5 hours

Well i've had this phone for like...48 hours...and I have to say im
disappointed. Sure it's has it's pros and cons...but it has mostly cons.
the pro's are.."the Flashy lights" that stimulated my pathetic brain
and half of the people that have bought it. and oh wait that's all the
pros...now moving on the cons Well where do i start. oh yeah the poor
phone camera quality that just sucked the big fun out of it. the buttons
that makes me wanna throw the phone at the wall and did i mention how
ugly they are. the games are all waste of space, specially the water
rafter. i deleted it the first time i tried it. this phone maybe an
upgrade, but a junk one! if it wasnt for the flashy lights i wouldn't
have gotten this phone and had purchased the 3200 it was cheaper, better
and easy to use. sooo...if ya wanna buy it for the flashy lights go
ahead..or if ya want a good quality phone...stick with the 3200.

I have had this phone about 2 weeks, I absolutley HATE it. I mostly
hate the buttons which are multifunctional and dont ever hit what you
are pressing. The ring tones are rubbish as well. The message tone alerts
the whole world. Anybody thinking of buying one you will probably find
mine on e-bay next week. If the shop wont change it.

This phones amazing! i chose it because it had everything that i wanted
my new phone to have. The battery seems to last a fair amount of time
and it has some brilliant features. Ok, it doesn't have a radio, but
i know i probably wouldn't use it that often and its deffinatly not
a neccessity. the pictures shown on the net are missleading because
the handset is actually a great size, its small and easily fits into
a pocket. id reccommend it anyone, its easy to use and the camera quality
is good and it is NOT a bad price considering what you get. Theres 1
thing left to say.....IT FLASHES!!!!! its brilliant, just brilliant!!!

First things first-if you want this phone, its currently £99.99
at The Link, have seen it listed at £149.99 at Carphone Warehouse,
amongst other places... (and no, I don't work for The Link, as if!)
Yes, its a great phone. I switched back to it and Nokia after having
a horrendous experience at the hands of 3M's excuse for a service and
phones-if you're thinking about it, then DON'T!!!!! Onto the Nokia 3220-pros,
well, its compact, easy on the hand, eye, and pocket; benefits from
Nokias ridiculously easy menu system; the ringtones are numerous and
mostly original; the flashing lights at the side are not half as annoying
as I -or the shop assistant!-thought they would be; reception is clear;
volume more than adequate; camera and video OK, not the best, but hey,
this is a PHONE, if you want to make movies, go and talk to someone
at Sony, don't whinge if gimmicks are not star quality!! Cons? Well,
the keyboard is a bit small in places and the menu bars options are
fiddy, especially "select" button, which has three possibilities-so,
if you enter "select" you end up doing "up" or "down" or something instead-accurate
fingers needed! A lot of space is taken up by needless stuff as well,
the little graphic "animal" pops up everywhere and is a waste of space,
so just delete it as soon as you can, though it'll take a while to track
him down and elimiate him completely! Also, not sure if I like the wallpaper
and screensaver options that much, but, again, its only a phone, socan
live with that-I remember the breeze block phones of 10-15 years ago,
so, when someone whingers about pixel quality on a mobile phone, well,
they should get out more! Finally, disregard the nonsense about this
being a phone for the "young"-it isn't, its a phone for anyone and everyone
who just wants to have a Nokia that doesn't take itself seriously and
is easy to use and more than functional. I'm 41, young at heart, and
refuse to let teenagers have all the fun, that includes music, fashion,
and, in this instance-phones! Buy it-its ridiculously cheap, and does

I had this fone for 15 days and then i gave it 2 my brother. As i hv
in my previous(see oct 15) review already mentioned that this a good
fone with good features,i needn't say anything else. But ppl who say
that u can record 50 sec video and expand it to 12 mins, just think
4 a minute. This phone has an internal memory of 3 mb and it doesn't
have a mmc card.when u record 1 min video it uses up 600 kb (appox)
of memory, now how cum anyone record 12 mins of video.Just think of
it before buying this fone or writing any reviews abt this fone. Now
I have a NOKIA 6600, it records 9-10 secs(96 kb) of video and when i
get 2 read that this phone(3 mb,non expandable memory) records 12 mins
of video obviously i get irritated. This fone is popular coz of its wave
msging feature, but this feature is not available everywhere plus if
u add the price of wave msging feature to the original price of the
fone u will realize that indirectly it is costing u a bomb. Its price
would be almost equal 2 a smartfone with not even half the features
of a smartfone.IN THE END CHOICE IS URS . Feel free 2 mail me at gautamthegreat_leo.at.yahoo.com

I got the 3220 yesterday after putting up with the dire O2 x1 (original
version) for a year! My first and foremost priority when using a phone
is for text messages and the 3220 is lovely to text with, although the
key pad is smaller than I'm used to, this is not a problem and it is
great having a phone you can write a quick text on, it actually keeps
up with me. Phone calls are excellent so far, the ringtones are nice
and loud and you can hear what the other person is saying. It has loudspeaker
for making phonecalls with but I haven't used that yet, if it is anything
like the 3200 which my sister has then that should work fine. It has
a voice recorder and a video recorder with sound and you can actually
send these as media messages to compatible phones. I tried sending a
voice recording this morning and that worked, also received one so I
know they can receive then too. The flashing lights can get annoying,
it might have been better if the screen didn't flash at the same time,
I wouldn't recommend this phone to epileptics. But you can always turn
the lights off if you don't want a mobile nightclub in your pocket.
The phone comes with a stencil to make your own paper inserts for the
back of the phone and although gimmicky I have already made 3 covers
for it and think it's a good idea if you really want to personalise
your phone. The camera is ok quality, no it's not great but this is
a phone not a camera. The same goes for the lack of Radio or MP3 player!
Data cables are available to transfer ringtones and pictures to and
from the phone although you don't get one included in the box, I've
ordered one for around a fiver off ebay. In the meantime I've been using
the 02 website to send myself media messages with pictures from my computer
to use as backgrounds. All in all a great phone aimed at the younger
market but not necessarily for teenagers (I'm 22!)

This phone is pants it hasnt got an MP3 Player, Radio, or a MMC card
slot. i've had it for 4 months on special trial and the lights on the
left hend side have broken. The video cam is a disaster and its a horrible
shape with terrible buttons. I cant even get the applications to work!
I recomend you DON'T get this and maybe look at the 6230 that has everything
i have just mentioned.

things that this phone is missing is Bluetooth, Infrared, FM radio,

version...It's great that phones are starting to be more for fun then

I've had this phone for just over a week now. Amazing in all respects.
I love the way it lights up when u get a call. The build quality is
typical Nokia. I would have liked a cover for the camera at the back
though(a la Sony K500/700i), so as to minimise scratches.

This phone is amazing! I bought it the other day and i have to say although
the buttons take some time to get used to, it has many excellent features
and just looks and feels great. It is surprisingly lightweight too.
As well as what's written above it has a voice recorder and a video
recorder too which i was surprised to find out. It also looks cool at
night when the lights flash as you get a call from someone. I think
this phone is good value for money and although it doesnt have bluetooth

features; games, camera, video recorder, flashy lights. Its a brilliant
cute little phone made for having fun. I would recommend it to everyone,
and it is far cheaper than those business phones with the same features
and a screen of equal good quality like the 6230. Menus are easy to
navigate and the keypad feels good. The grips on the side are also comfy
and look cool! xx

I am getting this phone next Friday. I have the 3200 and this is a perfect
upgread to it. But why o why does it not have a FM Radio???? I can't
believe Nokia didn't put one in as all the new phones have them and
then this phone would just be so perfect. It looks so cute and I loved
the fact you could cut out covers to put inside on the 3200 so doing
this again is fantastic. I can't wait to get this phone and to try the
new air messaging. I have a feeling that this phone will actually be
a success for Nokia at last. I will write another review when I have
used the phone a bit!!! :)
