Nokia 3220 review

 Review: October 2004

Last updated August 2008

In a nutshell: The Nokia 3220 is being marketed as a fun camera phone, targeted at the youth sector.

Best buy: Nokia 3220 from Amazon Marketplace UK (£40.00)

The 3220 is a surprisingly slimline phone, and lightweight too. It has a nice chunky feel and there's a wide range of Xpress-on™ shells available for customising the phone. You can also make your own cut-out covers, just like the Nokia 3200.

The screen, whilst small, has 65,000 colours, and the phone has an integrated digital camera that takes reasonable quality pictures. You can also take video clips. Both the screen and the camera quality are much better than the Nokia 3200, although not in the same league as competitors like the Sharp GX15 or Sony Ericsson T630.

The 3220 comes with a number of "fun" features, such as lights that flash in time with ringtones, as well as during games and other kinds of phone functions. This is particularly effective at night. MMS messages can be animated with one of the cute characters provided.

The Nokia 3220 builds on the success of the popular 3200, and should be a popular phone for young people. it's just a shame that there's no radio included.

loved this phone, just changed it 2day 4 a 7610 supernova. Very sad to see my old 3220 go even though it was practically falling apart after 3 years! i think it should still be available to buy, a simple yet reliable phone. The only negative thing i can think of is the memory wasn't that good so i kept having to delete things. Excellent phone, shame its out of fashion now lol (:

Itís overall a good phone. Iíve had it over a 2 years and itís never let me down. The keypad is very nice same with the cover. The lights on the side of the phone are really useful because they flash when you have a missed call or an unread message. Also itís stayed in very good condition considering how many times Iíve dropped it!! Sometimes the photos can be blurry. Itís a shame they havenít made another one with bluetooth, infrared and mp3. Also itís very low memory. It was a great phone when I first got it but now I could get one thats much better.

This is a super-cute mobile that does everything you need, but no use if you need lots of photos, you can only take and store a few. When all's said and done, though, you have a camera for that, I just like to be able to have the ability to take a photo very quickly if I need to. You can take a very short video too, if needed. The voice recorder is very useful for proving what people have said on the phone to you (I wish I'd used it dozens of times...!) I don't know another phone with the cute lights and although it's aimed at younger people, I still love it so much that I have replaced it with the same model when mine was stolen (I'm in my 40's!)

the 3220 is a super phone and is excellent for the hard of hearing or deaf people as the flashing lights on the side of it attracts thier attention so they know it is ringing. Have had no bother at all with getting signals where ever I have been unlike other phones I have had. Hope it is still on the market as my husband wants one he is deaf so it will be a boon but been to a few shops such as O2 , phones 4U and Orange and none of them stock it so dont know where to get it from.

I love this phone, I got it about 2 yrs ago, and it's still up and running. The grips don't last very long, and the themes get annoying after a while. Considering it's 2007 already, I think it's pretty decent phone. But, It does not have Bluetooth and no Radio Access. This is a let down because older versions do ^_^' But by any rate, the tech can't be easier, and the kinda sad part is the normal wear and tear of the phone. I would have gotten a Sony Ericsson with my money, but now, its been a while and sadly, my warranty's expired. Heh, I can at least get a new one at no cost.. So, anyway, This phone is o.k. (Btw, I hate the little select key, its so hard to push, and bothers if youre in a hurry to take a pic.) P.S- I hate the camera. It's slow and doesnt take the pic when you want it to. It's quite frustrating.

I Have this phone right now, and it is amazing. I Was gonig to sell it on EBAY.co.uk, but i saw that you could get a USB data cable for it. I bought this cable a few days ago, and i realised how cool it was. I'm a budding video maker on yuotube, and the Nokia 3220 has been a great help. You can pause the recording video ( Although it only has 50 seconds of recording time) While you are recording, and it also does sound. The quality of the images are better than some of the digital cameras i have seen. This is a great buy.

Also, the memory is not huge so you can't take very many pictures and your videos can't be very long. Ok, it doesn't have a radio, but i know i probably wouldn't use it that often and its deffinatly not a neccessity. the pictures shown on the net are missleading because the handset is actually a great size, its small and easily fits into a pocket. id reccommend it anyone, its easy to use and the camera quality is good and it is NOT a bad price considering what you get. I got this phone to replace my old Nokia (and I do mean old). It's a nice little phone that takes good pictures in natural lighting; however, it lacks a zoom and the night option severely reduces quality of the pictures. My only complaints are on the directional key, the camera limitations I mentioned, the limited memory, and the side grips. The grips fell off after I had it for about three months. They aren't durable enough for extended wear. They also got really soft and fragile when the phone got warm during charging. There isn't enough memory for more than a few photos... Rather irritating. It redeems itself in how many ringtones I have been able to download. The directional pad can be a bit tricky... You have to be careful or it might accidentally go in the wrong direction. The features I loved about the phone are the lights, the themes, the ability to add clip art to photos, and the menu. The lights are fun. If you use a ringtone that comes with the phone, the phone will vibrate and light up in time with the music. Very fun, and it comes with lots of nice ringtones to try this out on. The themes are very fun too. You can choose a theme to change your whole phone. Quite a step up from my 3390! The themes include ringtones such as Star Trek and YMCA, which are just fun and suit my personality. I can take my photos and add clip art to them, such as sunglasses or a hat. It resizes and reduces the quality of the picture, but a nice feature nonetheless. The main menu is simple with ten options. There are many options to choose from after that, and customizing the phone is easy. Overall, I am very satisfied with this phone. It's very good if you don't want over-the-top features but still want something to keep you entertained.

Well I've had this phone for nearly a year, and havent been that pleased to be honest. It's design is original, but a bit immmature, I personally am a teenager, and find it embarrasing to have around, as all my friends have much smarter phones. The reasons I dont like this phone are, 1. It's memory is incredibly small. I cannot go a day without taking enough pictures to fill the memory, and unless you are able to put them on the computer, you have to delete memories. 2.It's video quality is poor. 3. It's ringtones and games are boring. 4. The rubbber light covers on the side wear down and peel off, leaving you with flapping sides. 5. The image editor takes alot of detail out of the image. But this phone does have a very good camera for the amount of money. I got this phone for 50 quid of tesco, and i think its a good camera for that price. BUT I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU DONT BUY THIS PHONE, BECAUSE IT IS NOT AT-ALL GOOD FOR NOKIAS STANDARDS.

This is a great phone i've had it for a year now but the one thing that made it a 4 star instead of 5 for me was that is dosen't have that much mermery space so you can't have long films and loads of pictures at the same time, everytime i want to make a film i have to delete pictures.. Its still a really good phone! But My Phone has a different back (you can change them and make your own!) and its a different colour, they don't do it in white it's stupid! They advertise it white but when you buy its blue! Well thats what it was like in bristol! Although it's a really good phone and its cheap! Worth the price, £60 (including the £10 credit you get with it when you go on o2 pay as you go!) - I prefer orange! I would get it in orange but teh shop were sold out in orange.. :(

i had this phone for about a year. it was a loyal phone :) the camera is ok for a none mega pix recording kind of suck when you record music but what do you expect pretty much everything on the phone is ok nothing the is GREAT. well im upgrading to the samsung e720 bc im tired of this nokia and i wanted a flip phone. so if your getting this phone think twice and really think if you really want if if you do then get it i liked it and its pretty cool my friends say its like an asian phone..lol..but remember dont peel off the side bc i didnt and the light caps feel off so yeah dont make the mistake i did..oh yeah and when i first got this phone i could only store about 20 pics but i deleted alot of themes and clip arts to make it have more memory and it worked i could store up to 60 pic 3 vids and more then 14 recordings..it would be better if it was a flip but i got i when they only had the bar one and now they made the flip..im going to miss my poor nokia it went through alot and never broke down on me thats what i love about nokias.

This phone is not to be underestimated at all. The multi function buttons allow you to glide through the phone with ease. It's comfortable in you hand, pocket or bag ( not too small where you can't find and not too big). The camera and video gives a great picture. Say what you will but it's def worth the money. Have to admit the lights are what separated it from the rest. But the 1 con I have to mention is that camera and video although great picture the memory is a little poor. Overall 4 out of 5 can't be bad. If there is anyone tempted go out and buy it, nowadays it's next to nothing i.e. value. You most def get value for money. Get on Nokia, Please bring out another great mobile being looking for a while x

Well, what can I say? The Nokia 3220 has nearly all I want in a phone: a good screen, a camera with video, a tri-band, and a voice recorder. the only problem is that it hasn't got a radio or mp3 player, which is a downside. But overall, this phone is great. The lights are very useful, especially at night and when you have lost your phone, so you should know where your phone is. The keypad is very easy to use, which confirms it as my choice of phone. The tri-band was important, as I knew I was going to France dutring the same month as I bought my phone, so I chose one with a tri-band.

The only good feature on this phone is the flashing lights. This is the worst phone I ever bought and I paid quit a lot for it but the price has recently been dropped in price and i'm not surprised! When you get the phone you can only take about 20 pictures I had to delete all my graphics just so I could take 40 which still isn't a lot. I've had this phone a year and the buttons are in pieces and the rubber grips on the side have broken I've had to buy a new cover just to get some more buttons but I cant replace the rubber grips. The ringtones aren't much better they all sound really tinny I have had to buy some because I hate the ones on the phone so much. I also don't like the games they are so pointless here are the names of the games; water rapids, adventure race, phantom spider, club pinball and dance delight now some of them might sound good but they are not they are difficult to control and very boring. This phone is so bad it has put me off Nokia phones and I am considering getting a Motorola v3i. I would give this phone 1/10 the 1 is only because of the lights I think this is probably nokia's worst phone I would not recommend it at all.

This phone is really good. I love it. The only problems for me are that it doesnt have Blue tooth and not even Infra-Red! The picture quality is alright but its a shame there is no zoom or flash facility. I have had this phone for about 8 months now and the battery is playing up which has made my mind up to buy a new phone. (I was considering it but I cant be bothered buy a battery for £20 when I can get a batter phone, Motorola L6, for £50)

I think this phone is outstanding. I bought it for just under £60.00 and it is excellent. The camera is great. Perhaps Infrared/Bluetooth and some more memory would help but it is a great phone. I highly recommend it!!!

This was my second phone and at first I thought it was great. I had just had a siemens A50. It had all the things I wanted on a phone. I think the lights are a groovy feature. Every feature on the 3220 is good. There are no real bad problems with this nokia. In the end I swapped this phone with my sister for a 2 year old samsung which I though suited me better. I would say this is a girls phone and suitable for girls and not really for boys. Overall, I like it but it just doesn't have the sparkle that I think it should have.
