Nokia 3110 Classic Review
Phone rating:
In a nutshell: This is a great entry-level phone from Nokia.
A classic user-friendly design, built to last and with excellent battery
life, it will get on with the job without any trouble. It includes a
camera, MP3 player and FM radio and has the benefits of an expandable
memory card, Bluetooth connectivity and triband. The 3110 offers exceptional
value for money.
Review: January 2008.
It often seems to us here at Mobile Phones UK that Nokia are at their
best when they don't try too hard. The 3110 isn't trying too hard to
be anything other than a phone. Yes, it comes equipped with a 1.3 megapixel
camera, an MP3 player and an FM radio, but many people consider these
to be essential these days don't they? Who wants to carry three gadgets
around when one will do the job? And that's what the 3110 does: it does
the job that it was given and doesn't pretend that it's an all-singing
all-dancing fashion accessory. Nokia seem to have realised this themselves.
Instead of regarding the classic "candy-bar" style as boring
and trying to follow other manufacturers' clamshell and slide designs,
they've realised that the classic shape is what they do best, and have
decided to make the most of it by branding their latest phones "Classic".
We like Classic! 2007 was a renaissance year for Nokia, and 2008 looks
like it's going to be a good follow-up.
Anyway, enough rambling, back to the 3110. This is a smart, well-designed
phone that's a good size and is very easy to use. As we said earlier,
it just gets on with the job. This isn't a slimline phone - it's a tough-looking
phone that's built to last and has a battery to match. The 5-way navigation
key and conventional keypad are a pleasure to use, compared with the
yucky offerings that Sony Ericsson is putting out these days.
The camera isn't great: no flash, no autofocus. It's just for snaps,
but in daylight it will get some reasonable shots. The MP3 player and
FM radio are fine though. It isn't an iPod, but it plays music and you
can store up to 500 tracks if you buy a memory
card for it. You can use MP3 tracks as ringtones, and also customise
the phone with wallpapers and themes. Connectivity is excellent, with
Bluetooth, USB and Infrared all available. It's triband too, so you
can take it to the States.
It's a phone that's hard to fault. Don't buy it if you want the latest
technology, or want to pose in the pub, but if you're looking for a
workhorse phone that's superb value for money, look no further.
Features of the Nokia 3110 Classic include:
- 1.3 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom
- Video recorder

Being a Nokia text format fan, since dropping my 3110 classic in a ditch.
I have tried replacing it with newer Nokias. But nne of them matches
it. I mainly use it for texting and the occasional phonecall and photo,
it does all 3 very well. The big plus for texting for me, is that when
you select large font. The received text is also large. Selecting large
font on the other Nokias, only makes the created message large. Good
if you are partially sighted. It has a good feel in the hand, with the
soft finish base, and the slightly heavier weight also adds to the quality
of grasp. Tip - After drying out, following the ditching. It did not
work. A colleague suggested imersing in de-ionised water (battery top
up water) After that, it came back to life. But ironically the battery
life is now less !

FANTASTIC PHONE ITS A ONLY PHONE WHICH SHOWS OPERATOR NAME CORRECTLY
I MEAN TO SAY THAT THE NEW NETWORKS WHICH ARE ARRIVE IN INDIA THEY GIVE
NETWORK ID AS Some IND 820,320 etc.so other hand set shows that IND
code but this phone automatically update the operator name so when u
insert new SIM it shows the operator name exactly what they call their
network. NOTE:Even Nokia N95,blackberry,etc.handset fails to work as
this.

Nice phone EXCEPT the screen. Breaks with only slightest provocation.
Broken two screens now. Just by a cheapie of ebay and replace it yourself
as getting some one else to do it costs about 60-70% of the phone (in
australia). Getting the keypad off is a bit tricky the first time as
you don't know how much force to use. You need to release the large
plastic clips about 1/2 way down the side which requires some force,
but not so much that you snap the keypad. Instructions here - www.formymobile.co.uk/3110disassembly

have been using too many phones from the last five years, too many hard-end
phones. I assure, this one is the best. I dont know what others say,
the audio through headphones is almost catching up with the sony's walkman

I thought he was just too rough, but then I got one for my daughter

lost a few but never broken one. So I tend to think that the 3110 screen

MY Dear MOstly people complaint about Nokia Camera phones that pictures
taken by them are not so great as compared to sony ericsson and high
end phones are so costly that mid range usert cant afford first of all
decide whether you want to listen music in a better way then go for
either sony ericsson W series or Nokia Xpress Music phones who have
great bass if you want ultimate camera phones regardless of resale then
go for sony ericsson K series and if u want a high end camera phone
with reasonable resale value then there is no alternative than nokia
Dear Sony ericsson Camera phones are based on cybershot Technology which
much better where as nokia has nop such shooting technology plus they
have variety of shooting modes with flash so results comes much better
due to this reason whereas nokia Phones are much more durable long life
and user friendly then Sony ericsson. sony ericssson have usually short
battery life which is common in almost all sets i am also user of Nokia
3110 Classic no doubt great mid range entry level camera phone produced
by nokia basically i was also in favour of Sony ericsson because main
objective to upgrade my cell phone from Samsung C160 is to buy high
quality mid range entry level camera phone but in our country sony ericsson
was short and is not durable than i decided to buy nokia 1.3 Megapixel
phone although pictures not come too great but if anyone use hus brain
for vreativity then image taken by this phone can be maodified we can
completely reduce noise by using noise reduction filters like neat image
as phone has no flash and if we feels that light in a snap is quite
low than light effect can also be compensated by using freeware software
like light artist and if we want to correct exposure color balance hue
saturation then software like Ulead photo impact can beused keep it
in mind its focal lenght is so limited that one should take picture
as near as possible and then processed it as i explain above

is very bad. And alsn I got a 1gb card and stored 450 songs with aac
format. But every time i switch on my phone the mp3 player takes 20minutes
to start. And i can't do anything else. Also when i use the nokia web
browser it restarts several times and then switched off automatically.
It continued if i tried to switch on. I have to wait for 30-45 minutes.

This phone is excellent and at £30 you would be stupid if you didn't
buy it! It is great for someone who doesn't need the best of everything,
and just wants a reliable, workhorse phone. The Pros: Classic Design.
Easy to Use. Better Camera than rivals (Samsung E250 + SE W200i) that
is OK in good light. Huge easy to press keypad. Impossibly long battery
life. FM Radio. Connectivity: USB, Bluetooth, Infra-red (Big 3). MP3
Player with micro SD slot. Clear Speaker. The few cons: 2.5mm headphone
jack (needs an adapter for normal headphones). Only one Earphone (mono).
Screen could be bigger. All the above cons would raise the price and
so I don't blame them for it; you only notice these if you use the phone
and MP3 player a lot, and if they did fix these, it could compete with
the Nokia 6300. All in all, it's a superb phone for the money, and their
review is right; if you want a workhorse phone that's superb value for
money, buy it! 10/10 recommended. N.B. If you have a restarting problem,
try updating the firmware either from the phone (ask a shop if you are
unsure) or take it to a Nokia Care Point and they should do it for free.
It's what I did and it works fine now.

nokia is famous for.. before this i use to have the nokia 2260 which
i had for almost 3 years still working without any problem but im not

my company has around 30 of these phones on a o2 contract, within a
week of receiving them 2 were being sent back to the carephone warehouse
for repairs to broken screens at a cost of £45 each, now a few months
later we have a draw in the office with 5 nokia 3110 classics with broken
screens, sims removed and put into cheap payg fones, cheaper then a
repair, and another 5 or so nokia 3110 still being used that have broken
screens, my screen broke when it dropped on to floor of a car (with
carpets) from a sitting postion.carfone warehouse to there cedit have
supplied us with 30 cases & r lukin into it,

This is an excellent phone having almost all features at a reasonable
price. Sound quality is very clear but the camera, being 1.3 MP is disappointing.
The pack, unfortunately, contains no PC Suite CD, Data cable, SD card
etc, which is surprising for a Nokia product.

Bought this phone at xmas was pleased with it, but now it is playing
up big time it keeps rebooting and switching itself off. A few people
on the review sites had this same problem but I took the chance, wish
I hadn't. One star cuz it don't work at all now in for repair.

Totaly agree with digidot. Reliability, connectivity and Nokia is rhe
three words you should remember if you wan't to buy one. With 1gb memory
card, it is a great phone for teenagers(mp3, games, camera).

I bought this phone yesterday for Rs4850. At such a low cost this phone
is one of the best mobile available in the market. What you will like
in this phone is --It's good look. --Awesome keypad for easy typing.
--For connectivity it has bluetooth, infrared and usb. --sound quality
is too good. --color display is good too. Something you will dislike
is.. --low memory, only 10MB, but then you can add a memory card upto
1 gb.

It is a cheap phone and looks okay. However,it performs terribly .The
reason being it gives the message "connection error " every now and
then-just when you need to make an urgent call.Hopelessly unreliable
and I wud not recommend this phone to anyone.I hv complains that they
cannot get through to me despite the fact that I am not on the phone.

I agree entirely with the reviewer. This is a terrific phone - beautifully
made and much more impressive in the flesh than in the photos. It is
very solid (cast aluminium) with rubberised panels that makes it easy
to grip. The keys have a positive feel, and everything just works. I
nearly overlooked this, and was all set to buy a Sony K550 or Samsung
E250, both of which look nice in the pics, but feel flimsy and a bit
cheap beside the Nokia, which is also the perfect size and weight. I
got mine on Orange, and I expect it to last as long as my previous Sony
CD5e, which I bought in 2000... Thanks MPUK for your review - it certainly
helped me decide, and I could well have missed it otherwise. My only
tiny gripe about the Nokia is that it doesn't include a stereo headphone
adaptor, but that's not enough to reduce the rating.

Thanks for your review, Francis, and glad we could help! I'm afraid
that we had to censor your review (deleted reference to shop where bought)

I picked one of these up today in the cool blue version. The handset
is comfortable to hold, substantial without being heavy. The keypad
is comfortable. I'm not too happy with the 4-way navigation key (I actually
prefer the Sony joystick button). The overall feel of the phone is quality.
I had some trouble opening up the back of the case in order to insert
the battery. Nokia have gone back to the old 3XXX series with the clip-on
covers. I got it off in the end, but it was not as easy as it should
be. The screen is excellent. I took a few photos which looked great
on the phones screen. Let's see how they'll look on the computer when
transferred. The menu is easy to use. No surpise there it being a Nokia.
The charger is rather flimsy. The lead is very thin and the tip is a
smaller mini version compared to previous models which looks like it
could easily break if, say, your phone slipped off the table when charging.
I mention this because a replacement charger would probably cost about
half the price of the phone. Similarly, the headphones supplied look
very flimsy. I was debating between this Nokia 3110 and the Sony W200i
as a backup phone. In the end I opted for the Nokia because of it's
more classic look. The Sony beats the Nokia hands down in teh music
department, but overall as a basic phone, the Nokia 3110 is a winner,
but not perfect.

The phone is pretty good. The only feature I don't like is that you
can't create your own music playlist easily... You can create playlist
only from the same artist or album. camera is ok... especially the pictures
made in daylight. pictures made in the night are not so good. I had
only a couple of times restarting problems with the phone (during the
actualization of music library). Otherwise the phone worked fine. Battery
life is decent.
