Nokia 2650 review

 Review: October 2004

Rating: 3 stars

In a nutshell: The Nokia 2650 clamshell phone, released in October 2004, has the kind of specification that Nokia's rivals were releasing over a year earlier.

Review

In fact, the phone has nearly identical features to the Nokia 3100 that was released 15 months earlier! The 3100 had the advantages of being a nice-looking, lightweight phone, whereas the 2650 is neither nice-looking nor lightweight.

It is hard to say anything very positive about this phone, and it confirms the impression that Nokia don't yet "get" clamshells. Our advice would be: "look elsewhere!"

I love my Nokia 2650! I love the way it lights up and flashes a gorgeous neon blue when I have a call or message. I like the tones. I especially love the key pad. It's very tactile and I've never seen one quite like it. It might be outdated now, compared to all the flash smartphones and whatnot, but it does what I want it to do. I'm now onto my 4th, but now have to but them "pre-owned" from a famous auction site!!! Who cares what the smart people say....it's mine and I love it to bits!!!!!!

I love this phone, with the blue flashing lights on either side when your phone is ringing, or you have received a text, makes it so easy to find in my handbag, i have dropped it many times whilst out shopping with my two children, and the back has come off the battery has fallen out and yet i put it back together and hey presto it works stright away, the buttons sre so easy to use especially if you send a lot of messages, and like me you cant stand that pre-texting if you are someone who doesnt need a camera, or mp3 etc, and just looking for a phone that is there to make and receive calls and text messages like i was, then look no further, it is great well done Nokia thank you

Forget how it looks or sounds or appears. It works perfectly well as do all Nokias. It also fits nicely in your pocket or bag. It is affordable, and you can pay as you go with Orange. If you use your phone to occassionally text and call it is fine, and will last you, like it has me, for 18 months or more. The only drawback is that it is a flip phone. These generally appeal to trendy people, so it does feel like a cheapo version of those flasher phones - which might make you feel a tad daft. But who cares anyway.

My phone 'lives' for 2,5 years now, and I think that's very long. A few times my phone landed on the floor, but it's still working. Sometimes I have some problems with the provider, but that doesn't influence my phone. So if you want a original phone, buy this one ;)

I've spent my day reading reviews in order to buy a new mobile phone and decided I just had to write sth about my old one. I've been using it almost two years and I'm prety satisfied with it. What if it doesn't take pictures or videoclips, what if it doesn't make coffee or do the laundry, it is what it is, just a phone and it is good at it. I have it open all day and all night, I throw on the table when I'm done using it, it even fell on the floor couple of times and still works fine. I've heard pretty funny stuff when I bought it, like it looks like a cobra or a shrink's coutch. So it can't be that bad. It's just time to buy sth new, because the inside cover began to separate and also lost my charger somewhere.

This Nokia 2650 does all that I need plus more. I am not into all the fancy stuff...just a good hard working mobile phone. I love the fact I dont need to lock it every time i turn it on, and the battery life is unbelievable compared to my old nokia. Using it moderately...ummm about 5-6 days. On the darker side though, the signal strength seems to be about one digit less than my old nokia, but that don't cause too much trouble considering I hardly ever out of range. Thats the reason I only give four star...otherwise it would be five star for me. If you only want a phone that is reliable and durable without all the fancy extra's , then buy it.

This is all i want in a phone, i think its brilliant value at #40 and the battery time is the best i have ever had, my only complaint is the predictable text, there is no memory or dictornary ( i cant find were you activate it) overall i think it looks great and i am very pleased i bought it.

I got this phone in April 2005. I thought that it looked good for the reasonable price of #69. However, when I got the phone, I immediately realised how basic the phone was. (It can only hold 20 text messages!). On top of that, the phone is very badly made and was clearly not thought through when Nokia designed it. The hinge of the phone is extremely weak, which causes the phone to flap about. It is also prone to being very slow when opening and processing applications (games). For some reason, the Nokia 2650 does not allow you to unlock your phone from the network provider. A message appears says "Cannot undo restriction". Perhaps if this phone was released a couple of years ago, then maybe it wouldn't be a bad buy. But it is 2005 and technology is cheap and fantastic. The Nokia 2650 isn't. AVOID!

Haven't bought it yet but intend to do it soon. Having seen at the stores, only two aspects came to mind which would have made it look more appealing to m and I might have bought it instantly. 1. Would have become more feature-full if Nokia engineers would installed a little LED screen instead of the place where they put their huge logo near the folded end of the clam shell. On that screen, it would diplay caller ID while the shell is still closed and hanging on your waist belt (LED side up) and would display Date and Time at other times. Would have suited those who have stopped wearing watches since mobiles arrived. I sure have for one. :) 2. A push button strategically placed near the thumb of the hand which, pressing of which would automatically spring open the clam shell, this would make the clamshell opening possible without utilising the other hand. This is a requirement sometimes while you are drving or engaged in some other work with the left hand. These two features, if incorporated, might make this phone much more appealing to me at least...I can't speak for a million others though.

That is exactly what this phone does well. It is a clamshell so i dont have to worry about the screen being scratched. It is the ****** of phones... Does exactly what it says on the tin. I've never experienced trouble with signal and the talk and stand-by times are certainly competitive and better than other phones I have had. You have to ask yourself what you want from a phone before you buy one. Those who wanted a camera-phone - well derrrr! - should not have bought this one! Also, those who feel it is large are also probably not very good at parking cars - or learnt from someone very generous what six inches is! If you want a small, attractive phone that makes and receives calls and texts and you like clamshells the I can't recommend this more thoroughly. Trust me, I'm a doctor!

i love this phone! if you really want to go back to basics and have a no-frills phone, then this is great. i like the looks, and it is reliable. at the end of the day a phone is a phone.if you want a camera, buy a camera. everything is great on this phone. there are 2 reasons why i havent given this 5 stars, one because of the price which is more than some more hi tech phones, and 2 no external screen?!?! anyway bye

This phone is exactly what I was looking for. It is lightweight, slim - could fit anywhere :) and has a huge stand-by time. It takes forever to discharge that battery! I'm loving it!

It does everything I want a mobile phone to do. Don't need a plethora of bells and whistles I never use. The looks are obviously a matter of taste - for me, the novel style is a real plus and I enjoy having something different. I like Nokias; I wanted a flip, so a perfect combination for me. Plus it's easy and fun to use. I've marked it down a star because I do agree it's quite pricey when matched against other gizmo-packed phones (even though I don't want the gizmos!) and the screen quality could be better.

for saying it is a flip phone with no camera i find the price appalling! it looks horrible and you can get the same functions(apart from colour screen)in my old 3300

When I saw this phone for the first time I fell in love with the way it looks... but later I got to know its features: no IR, no bluetooth, no 65k display, nothing... And then I saw its price... NOKIA, YOU MUST BE KIDDING!!!

Just what I wanted!! I wanted a small, simple, flip phone with an internal antenna - something I could just stick in my pocket and not worry about the phone. Good price and good size. I don't care about or want a bunch of features so this is perfect.

I just got this phone, but I reckon its pretty good(apart from the fact that there is no camera). The ringtones are really cool and thecolour screen is really good. The buttons are easy to use, and the battery life is EXTREMELY good. It lasts for ages. Texting and calling are really easy and the gallery has quite good pictures. I totally recommend this phone to any and every age. And also, this phone is really good for those who aren't fussy or technology-crazed or anything.

A mate of mine always has the latest camera phone, I asked him what he did before camera phones, go out with the nokia and the pentax? or the samsung and the nikon? get a proper camera! this is a great little phone and hopefully as durable as other Nokia's. Want decent polyphonics? get a walkman!want to change your phone every five minutes? then get a samsung or motorola thats about as durable as rice paper.
