Nokia 1110 Review
Phone rating:
Review: October 2005.
The Nokia 1110 is an entry-level phone designed with simplicity and ease of
use in mind. It replaces the Nokia 1100 and is
a better phone in a number of ways: improved battery life, the addition of a
handsfree speaker, changeable covers, and uprated ringtones and games.
The screen is small, but the inverted black & white display is easy to
read. Menus and navigation are simple and easy to use, especially the icon-driven
phonebook. The keypad is very nice, with a square design and good sized non-slip
keys, and the 4-way scroll key is very easy to use. Everything about this phone
speaks simplicity, and it's easy enough for a child (or her grandmother!) to
use. It's also nice and lightweight, and the battery life is excellent. There
are few features other than the basics, but it's an ideal first phone, or a
good choice for people who just want to make occasional calls.
Features of the Nokia 1110 include:
- Inverted black and white display with amber backlight (96 x 68 pixels)
- Messaging: SMS, picture messaging, Instant Messaging
- Storage for up to 60 text messages
- Integrated handsfree speaker
- 20-voice polyphonic ringtones with MP3 grade sound
- Three built-in games (Snake Xenzia, Dice Games, Pocket Carrom)
- Changeable Xpress-on™ colour covers
- Speaking alarm and clock
- Icon-based phonebook (200 entries) with simplified menu navigation
- Clock, stopwatch, ringtone composer
- Dual band
- Size: 104 x 44 x 17 mm
- Weight: 80g
- Talktime: up to 5 hours
- Battery standby: up to 380 hours

Since 2002 I was used to more up range Nokias - until I came across
this 1110i ("i" means the colours are not inverted, the rest is the
same). It was somewhere in South Asia, and this phone turned out so
sturdy and reliable as no other. Pros: Excellent dust-resistant keypad
- typing sms is a pleasure; clear display; really lightweight; excellent
battery life; good sound quality; handsfree; extremely fast operation
(incl. startup and switch off). Cons: address book is rather limited
(only 200 entries in the phone, and no multiple numbers under one name);
no visual calendar (only "reminders" are there); and no wap. Recently
got replaced by supposedly even better models: Nokia 1200 (b/w) and
1208 (colour). Functions are almost the same.

No, it doesn't have a camera...it doesn't have internet capabilities,
it doesn't have GPS, it doesn't have video or even a colour screen.
What it does have is the ability to make and receive calls and text
messages, easily and without complication. If that's all you want -
and as this is my work phone, it is - then this is the phone for you.
I have an all singing all dancing Motorola for personal use, but this

This phone is excellent! I have had many phones over the years and I
always drop them on the ground and stuff like that. This phone is indestructible.
Only one word of warning: 'Snake Xenzia', one of the included games,
is HIGHLY addictive. Once you get the hang of this game, you will not
stop. Waiting for a bus or whatever, the urge to try and break your
high score is often overwhelming. At first I was hesitant to discuss
my snake problem with other Nokia 1110 users, but when I did, I realised
that many of them have had similar experiences with this game. Remember,
when snake xenzia starts affecting other aspects of your life that's
when you have to address the problem, and recognition is the first step.
What are your high scores?

a clear screen, cool ringtones, plus the standard easy to use no-nonsense
menu system of Nokia makes it a great deal. Also a very cheap one, as
i managed to purchase it for about 150$!! (It was a special offer).
I previously owned a Nokia 5110 (don't laugh), and i had it for 6 years

I bought this cellphone yesterday and I find it impressive inspite of
it not having MMS, Flashlight, GPRS and those things. I don't know,
maybe I just don't know how to activate them. I went to the Nokia website
to look for the settings that will activate the GPRS and MMS Features
but the website seem to have removed the settings from the website.
Anyway, If I want a camera or video camera or flashlight, I'll just
buy a real camera or camcorder or flashlight. Plus, if I use this in
this on the streets as a flashlight, thieves might come along and snatch
it away. Although I cannot deny these features can make my phone far
more impressive to my friends and to me but of course a cellphone's
primary function is for calling or texting and not taking pictures.
I only bought this phone for 2200 bucks(Php)! I have not yet tested
the real performance of the battery. The charging time is very long,
this might take two hours or more. So far it's a long way till I realy
find out how good this phone can be. This is far much better than my
Nokia 3310 that could not even recieve messages. Well I can't blame
it. It's been passed around many times. I hope there's a way to reverse
the display, I want the yellow light to be the background and not the
black one and also adjust the fontsize and make it smaller.

To Pandele of Romania, this is not your first phone but it is probably
your first Nokia! The "defects" you mentioned are common to Nokia phones.
Actually I wouldn't call them defects. You have to press the red button
to start it, is that a defect? I have used some Motorolla and Ericsson
phones that has a red button w/c also functions as the power button.
Red button is on the right side? Come on, all Nokia phones have the
red button on the right side, and so do the newer Motorolla, Samsung
and Sony Ericsson phones. Menu is activated by left multifuntion button?
All Nokias are like that so it's nothing new (except for the models
with the so-called "Navi key", like the 1100 and 2600). There is no
"exit in all situations" key? Try the red button! SMS are hard to write?
Of all the phones I've used this is the easiest to text with! It does
not automatically close the sent SMS window once you have sent it? Again!
That is common to all Nokias (non-Symbian models) and if you are familiar
to the Nokia software you shouldn't have any problem. And for the rest
of us who have been users of Nokia phones for many years, we just love
the Nokia software and find it the easiest and most user-friendly of
all mobile phone softwares. You're talking about "non-tech people",
the Nokia 1110 is for them. I find the Ericsson and Motorolla softwares
far more technical than Nokia's.

I bought two identical Nokia 1110 (one for me and the other for my girlfriend)
and I must say I'm not sorry I've chosen these terminals. Nokia 1110
is the best choice for people who need a heavy-duty, long-lasting battery,
small and dependable mobile. It's very well equipped for normal everyday
use and its battery life is one of the best. I've only got to mention
one not-so-positive remark regarding 1110, it lacks only two things
which made me rate it 4 stars out of five: I somehow miss the bright
"flashlight" LED of Nokia 1100, and I'm not entirely enlightened about
these so-called mp3-grade ringing tones. The rest of its features (like
its great antenna signal, its appealing inverted display, its robustness
and above all, its standby and talk time) place this handy on top of
my preferences :) Someone might say: it lacks this function and it lacks
that and it lacks the other! But, hey! If you're lookin' for WiFi, IR
and bluetooth connectivity, displays featuring hundreds of thousands
colors, slide shell design and latest symbian operating system, go buy
yourself an N80 and make stunning 3-MegaPixel photos with its Carl Zeiss
lens of your ... sad empty wallet :-) (i'm speaking from an ... experienced
point of view)... Returning to Nokia 1110, I must confess it has to
offer a correct amount of good things in return to its more than fair
buying price. For those ones who are complaining about the red key being
positioned to the right side of the keypad (as if this button is unpractically
positioned), I only got one thing to say: you seem to be one of these
people who encounter a Nokia phone for their first time :P - go and
point your browser to GSMArena.com or even http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/nokia.htm
- you're gonna be suprised descovering that the most successful mobile
phone manufacturer worlwide (oh, yeah, I'm talking about Nokia) has
been implementing "red buttons positioned to the right side of the keypad"
since early 1996-s. Please excuse my sarcasm but I can't believe there
still are people who aren't familiarized (at least just a bit) with
Nokia handsets! And also please excuse my going offtopic :)

I have seen a lot of reviews about this phone saying it is the mother
of all cell phones -it is very far away from the truth. The only thing
valuable about it is its long lasting battery(acumulator). All the rest
is defective: you have a red and a green button on it , but you have
to press the red one to start it(?!?).The red button is on the right
wich is the most used position so you have the tendency to press it
to answer an incoming call. The reversed LCD is visible only when active(backlighted),
otherwise it is extremely hard to read(you need a very powerful light). The
main menu is not activated by the central menu pad as you would normally
expect, but by the left side multifunction button. You do however navigate
in it with its central pad once activated. Software is defective: You
have an auto lock feature of the keyboard, but it does not work if you
have something typed in it(so if you put it in your pocket and accidentally
press something while you do that, autolock does nothing.By the way
this is the most common situation in wich the phone dials unexpectedly
).It does not revert to the main screen after a while, which it whould
be useful for a non-tech person. There is no "exit in all situations"
key, again very useful for non-tech people. SMS are extremely hard to
write on that small screen and it does not automatically close the sent
SMS window once you have sent it. And this is not all.I am an software
engineer and I know very well what I am saying and this is not my first
mobile phone.

I love the Nokia 1110! It has the basic features which I really need!
I've used some of the high-end phones before such as the Windows Mobile
and the Symbian Smartphones. Sure, they do have some exciting features
such as MP3, video camera, bluetooth, etc. When I got my 1st Symbian
phone, the Nokia 6630, I was so excited because I could install lots
and lots of games and applications and also it's got a memory card where
I could store MP3 but then I would only use them for the first few months
or so and then got bored with it eventually. I ended up using my so-called
smartphone for plain texting and that's the time when it becomes a pain
in the ass! You see, the previous phones I had like the Sony Ericsson
K700 and the Motorola Razor V3, have really nice features but texting
with them is quite difficult. And their batteries lasts for 2 days max!
With the Nokia 1110, texting is a breeeeze! The silicone keypad is very
soft to the thumb and you feel it when you press on it so you don't
have to double-check if you pressed the keys enough or not. Best phone
for heavy texters like me. They say battery lasts 4 to 7 days. I haven't
proven that yet as I've only been using this for 2 days. The package
I got included a BL-5CA battery which has less power than the standard
BL-5C, but that's ok. I got this for a ridiculously low price of 2,600
pesos (approx. 50 USD). The BL-5C replacement battery costs about 40
USD, and the charger around 10 USD. It just doesn't make sense! If I
needed a spare battery, I'll just buy another Nokia 1110 package! Anyway,
anyone who is thinking of buying a Nokia 1100 should get the 1110 instead.
For a few additional bucks, you get a nicer looking phone (I think the
1100 looks too cheap) plus more features such as loudspeaker and 4-way
navigation keys which makes texting much easier. It also has built-in
polyphonic ringtones with MP3 grade, although you can only download
monotones. It's got a Number Screening feature which filters unwanted
calls or text. If you want a colored version of this, there's the N1600.
But personally, I wouldn't pay more for a colored phone that doesn't
even have MMS! It's just a waste! The inverted LCD and white keypad
backlights of this phone looks sooo beautiful in the dark. There are
only 2 things I didn't like about this phone. One is that you can only
have up to 3 lines for SMS. It would have been better if they included
an option for smaller fonts to allow as more lines for text. Another
is that the ring type is only in Ascending mode and you have no option
to change that. I gave it 4 stars for those reasons. Anyway, I would
like to share a couple of tips for this phone; First- you probably noticed
that there are only two lines for the phonebook list. You can actually
make this into 4 lines by disabling "Contact images" and then setting
the "Contacts view" to "Name list". You can do all these in the "Contacts"
menu. Secondly- I am worried that the LCD being inverted makes it more
prone to damage. So I make sure the screensaver is always active. You
see, the purpose of screensavers is not just to entertain your eyes
but to protect your screen from being damaged because of being 'still'
for a long time. It wasn't called SCREEN SAVER for nothing! Anyway,
this phone is a really good buy as a 2nd phone or for those who only
need a phone for texts or calls. And for the price of it, you couldn't
really complain much about the features that it lacks.

1110 belongs to the second category n Gets all the 5 points in its own
category,,,,, It loooks gud, it sounds gud, it works fast, its ringtunes
are Cool, its keypad rocks --whatelse one needs. But the one thing I
would have wanted in The set was Bluetooth headset connectivity so that
we can connect a bluetooth Headset... But Not to mention that its a
low budget phone n in PK what u get in RS.3000 is never more than it...

A really good phone; not the smallest, but very comfortable to hold
and use. The menus are intuitive and fast. Much better than the Siemens
model I had previously (which used to crash periodically). I was concerned
about the inverted screen, but needn't have been: it's very easy to
read. The only downsides are that the keyguard security (PIN lock when
in standby) doesn't seem to work (software bug?), and the ringtone composer
only lets you write monophonic tunes. Incidentally, the "mp3 quality"
ring tones really are true recordings (not just MIDI files) - some have
vocals.

Inverted black and white display looks terrible, so see it before you
buy. The signal indicator and battery indicator are placed on the top
of the screen horizontally and are very difficult to read and analyse.
The Contacts list displays only 2 names at a time, and only 3 lines
of text message are displayed at a time instead of 4 lines in the 1100
model. The phone instrument is available with either of 2 batteries
as per User Manual- BL5C or BL 5CA, so it is important to check what
battery you are getting. If you display the clock (in standby mode),
the information about your location ("cell info display") has no place
and is displayed by way of scrolling.

I'm very pleased that I made the right choice with this no-nonsense
Nokia 1110. My last mobile was a Philips. It was great ... kept it going
for six years. This Nokia is so good, I expect to keep it until it packs-up
or is nicked. If that means I keep it for ten years ... well fine. If
you're one of those dumb people who sees the Phones 4U TV adverts and
thinks "Duh, I'm ashamed of my mobile - better buy a new one", well
go and waste your cash. Since I typically make only about five minutes'
of calls a week, my Nokia 1110 is good for up to nine days on stand-by!
That's cool, because I have plenty of more interesting things to do
than fiddle around with chargers every day. Other plus points for me:
(1) It's small and light, (2) When it's on stand-by, you can still see
what's on the screen. There's really nothing wrong with this phone.
The reviewers on this site who've given it a low score probably get-off
on downloadable poly ringtones, unnecessary screensavers, integrated
mp3 players and cameras. If you really need those things, sure, look
elsewhere. Good luck.

satisfied with this phone. It does just what I need. I talk a lot, and

I chose to purchase this phone on it's cost alone ($79AU + $10 credit)
since all I want with it is to make and receive calls. When I took it
from it's packet and bunged in the battery, I was alarmed that the screen
details were that feint that my poor old eyes couldn't make out the
characters - even in the dunny with the lights off! However, now that
it's fully charged the display is adequate (although all but invisable
in stand-by mode)and the ease of setting it up to my personal tastes
was very simple. The claimed MP3 sound quality is a bit of an exageration
but hell, so long as it makes enough noise (which it does) to alert
me that someone is trying to contact me, then I'm happy enough. It appears
to have a stronger signal response as well and I can use this phone
in places other mobiles have refused to work in. As a pure and simple
phone, I will recommend it.

take a picture, use a feakin camera.. if you want a mobile phone that
makes call and sends sms (and fast at typing), has long battery life,
excellent display, very fast and responsive software, never freezes

had. Period. I am a heavy mobile user with over 60mins of call per day,
countless sms and have owned various phones in the past including some
of high-end models from various manufacturers. Nokia 1110 is truly a
revelation. This is a device that is designed to perform what its supposed
to do, and it does it with aplomb. It fits its purpose, and it doesn't
do anything unecessary features that will only add price, weight, durability,

I just got it and I'm definitely impressed. I have to mention that I
use a phone for calling people and receive the occasional sms. I have
other status symbols and I can survive a day at work without listening
to music or taking pictures. I also find it rather important not having
to carry around a charger just because I happen to sleep over at a friend's
house (in fact I won't have to worry about charging for an entire holiday).
Monofunctional gadgets will by definition have the superior ease of
use because designers don't have to worry about stuffing thousands of
useless features into the menu structure. Hence no compromises. Designing
products that are easy to use for their intended purpose has nothing
to do with morons. Actually I find it pretty moronic having to read
a 300 pg. manual just to figure out where to change the order of the
menu items. So it might not be a phone for people who need something
to impress their peer-group but if you're looking for a hassle free
thingie to make phonecalls with the 1110 is the way to go.

For people on a budget (no contract equals peace of mind!) this phone
is a excellent buy - superb battery life, coupled with nice polyphonic
sound and easy menus. Its a great idea inverting the colour screen -
the screen is more defined - something other reviwers think makes worse
which I cant understand in my opinion. You would need a high spec colour
phone to match the clarity of this 2 coloured phone. Just bought this
phone the other day for my mother and even she found it easy to use
ahem! almost straight away! Very easy to use and a great improvement
on the nokia 1100, it keeps the chunky rubber keypad but has refined
the menus and address book. Nice one Nokia, was expecting something
very average at the price this was surprisingly not.
