Motorola C550 Review
Phone rating:
Review: January 2004.
The Motorola C550 brings an integrated digital camera to the popular
Motorola C350 design. The integrated camera features a 2x digital zoom.
The small display of the C550 is not ideal for viewing photos, and
with only 4k colours, this puts the C550 at the bottom of the "entry-level"
bracket of camera phones. Still, with polyphonic ringtones, Java games
and plenty of other features, this is a good phone to consider if you
are on a tight budget.
Features of the Motorola C550 include:
- 4096 CSTN colour display (96 x 65 pixels)
- Integrated digital camera (VGA, 640 x 480 pixels)
- 32-voice polyphonic ringtones
- Ringtone re-mixer
- WAP 2.0, GPRS
- EMS (add graphics, animations & sounds to messages)
- Downloadable wallpaper & screensavers
- Java games
- Phone book (100 names)
- USB connectivity
- SMS chat
- Group SMS
- Clock, calendar, calculator, currency converter
- Size: 98 x 43 x 19 mm
- Weight: 94g
- Battery standby: up to 230 hours
- Battery talktime: up to 5.5 hours
- Vibration alert
- Dual band

Hey guys. this is an absoulute waste of money. There is only one word
that i can clearly describe this as and it is CRAPPY! the camera is
tiny, with extremely low resolution and the photos are so poor you cannot
see hardly anything. I recommend this phone to anyone who is a STINGE,
this phone isnt even good enough for a dog. People if you are planning
on getting this phone for christmas for your children, think twice before
you buy it because it has no features and you will be extremely LUCKY
if your children DO NOT throw it in your face! Thankyou.

I bought this phone 6 months ago and have had no trouble with it at
all. It's reliable, effective does the job well. As for the camera, thats
a different story. The camera itself is quite good. In the right lighting
conditions it can take quite good shots, however the biggest let down
is that the camera is not suited to the 4096 colour display. The shots
cannot reach their full potential. Also, sometimes you may not be able
to hear the phone ring because its not incredibly loud. It's only some
tones that this is for. Apart from those minor issues The phone is quite
good for someone on a budget. My next phone will be the NEC E616v. Hope
its as reliable as this(with better features)

Hello! Dear friends I wanna explain something about Motorola C550 with
camera, the phone is too bad and have a lot of drawbacks, I note here
some of them. 1-the phone screen is too small and resolution is very
bad. 2-the phone color is also not good. 3-yes it is right that the
phone is cheap price but i think not only cheap price but also the phone
is look like is also very cheaper (means very bad). 4-the phone ring
tones is very slow. 5-the phone USB port is some time not work. 6-the
phone keypad is too small to use even ur hands is too small. My friends
and I purchased the motorola c550 mobile phone three months ago but
We think we lost our money purchaising this cheaper (very bad) phone.
We dont recommend any person to purchase it, if they want their money
no lost.

Hey everybody, This fone is ok. I would recommend you buy it if you
are a kid that doesn't have much money. My friend has one of these and
i was wondering whether to buy one but i thought i didn't want to copy.
It is a good fone. It has a camera(take ok pictures in sunlight but
not to good in darkness), Polyphonics(they sound ok), and lots of other
great features. I am actually getting a Sony Ericsson T610, they are
a great fone if you have a problem with this fone. all round its a pretty
good phone.

there is no infared, so sending pictures to the computer or other phones

Bought the phone over the web and hadn't seen or tested it in real life,
so it's my own fault, I guess. Annoying things aplenty: I use the phone
as an alarm clock and leave it to be charged beside the bed every night.
I get up early, and I have learned to stuff the phone under the mattress
before unplugging the power cord. Reason: The phone gives off a loud,
annoyoing bleepeleep-sound when I remove the power cord. Can't figure
out if I can turn it off. Actually, the phone announces its presence
loudly and blatantly when I plug in the power cord, unplug the power
cord, touch different keys, turn it off, turn it on, and so forth. A
real PITA. I have had the phone for 5 months or so, and most of the
buttons and the navigation thingy in the middle are worn through in
the lacquer. Bad production quality, simply. The camera is a disappointment.
This is my first camera phone and of course I did not expect supreme
quality. However, I did expect to be able to recognize what I take pictures
of, but I can't. I think I may have taken less than a dozen pictures
with this thing - it's bloody worthless. The pictures measure something
like 8 x 10 pixels, the images are dark and fuzzy and not worth a damn.
Keys: This phone may be all right for midgets with tiny fingers, but
for a grown man it is quite poor. I only use my little finger when dialling,
and it means I never write SMS'es or such. Can't wait to get rid of
this thing.

This phone is perfect for what it needs to do. While the screen may
be smallish on size, it only affects the operations when trying to view
pictures. The navigation is excellent, considering it is highly customisable
(you can make menu options appear in any order, and even change the
quick-link from the soft-buttons). If you actually turn up the volume,
the ringtones are rather loud. Managing to hear it clearly 50m away,
and even using it as an alarm-clock to wake me up, I'm heavily reliant
on it and it's yet to let me down. As for the vibrating feature: I've
left this in my pocket and have felt it every time it's vibrated. There's
also the great feature where it vibrates every 5mins after you get a
txt/call until you respond, just incase you don't realise! Ultimately,
in the end, it is a good phone. You simply need to know how to work
it (and it seems like there are quite a few people here whom don't).
Yet, considering I knew how to work it fine after having it 30mins,
I don't see what anyone else's problem is.

Maybe in Hong Kong we have been spoiled and have higher requirements
of our mobiles but this is definitely what you call a bad phone unless
you just want a phone to make & receive calls. For those of us use to
the Nokia, its a nightmare to navigate, the logic for the navigation
is just non-existent. The screen quality is poor, ringtone barely audible,
the vibrating alert useless. The only good thing is the price but even
for me its not value for money. Advice...invest double the price in

Well~ I have already submitted a review last month with 2 star rating,
i would like to change it, becuz after using it for one more month,
i find it too annoying. First, the ring tone, is far too weak to listen,
and i cannot feel the vibration too, that means i always have more than
10 missed call everytime when i take out my phone from my pocket. And
the camera, the quality when u see in the computer is not bad, but it
take photo after around 2 second when u press the button, and the start
up for the camera is so slow, that i always miss some great shot~ The
monitor, i didn't expect the monitor to be good at this price, but not
that bad. When i compare the 4096 color screen with other phone, i found
the pixels are really big, and the word are extremely blurred. Finally,
if u want to buy a phone that is cheap with camera and color screen,
buy this one. But i dun recommend ppl to buy cheap phone with camera
and color screen. if u dun have the money, but a cheap phone with black
and white screen. If u have the money, buy a 65000 color screen. Buying
a rubbish color screen and rubbish camera will just make you unhappy~

bad first, the vibration is really weak, u cannot feel it unless its

missed the call and it cause a lot of troubles. Third, the little screen

clear pictures outdoors. Everytime i open up a feature (e.g messages)
it takes ages to open up! The buttons are poor quality and have to push
hard on them just for the number/letter to appear. I regret buying this
phone and i would not recomend it to anyone! The colour quality isnt
that good either, i wouldn't have bought this phone if i had have been

I like the phone but cant download pics to my pc because I havent got
the software. Apart from the instant membership to mensa(which you need
to figure out how to use the damned thing)i also cant send or receive
pictures to a phone. I feel quite stupid having a camera phone that
I cant get the pictures out of so is it technically a camera phone or
just a mobile that stores useless images? If anyone knowws how to e-mail
or download, send receive pics etc. will you let me know?

Given the price (Free on everything pay monthly) OK I suppose - in fact
the best reception where I live than any other phone. And I've had a
few... BUT: Whilst I can hear everyone else perfectly, they can only
hear a Dalek on the other end. Apparently continuously breaking up.
Or perhaps they just don't like me.... Texting is truly an abismal experience
- Motorola seem to have succeeded in ensuring you have to go through
the most complicated set of key strokes possible to write and send one.
Well done Moto - you've won that one. So basically, don't buy one. If
you need a cheap phone go for a low end Nokia ro Sony Ericsson. And
don't think you'll be losing out on a camera, the one on a C550 might
as well not be there.

Its a waste phone. Don't ever think of buying it. Ring tones are not
at all audible. No much of flexibility in controlling the volume. Data
port can be used to transfer only data entries. You can not transfer
images clicked using the C550 to a PC via the data port. You can only
MMS if your service provider allows you to. The dealer tells you it
can be done. But it can not be done and there is no mention about it
in the manual also. I am currently using this phone and am feeling sorry
for buying it. Any other clarification required regarding C550 before
you (DON'T) buy you can mail me at kavi_masscomm@yahoo.com. Thank you

and when you receive them (pictures) you have to log on via wap and

a very average camera phone definitely not worth buying when you look

I'm yet to work out how to set up wap/gprs as no information came with
the phone and its expensive to call my contract people! I really like
the variety of ring tones and its nice to be able to pick other sounds
for the alarm and text message alerts. The camera is alright, some pictures
come out very badly but some are ok. I like the way you can change the
colour scheme for pictures and also the ability to allocate a picture
to a persons name so their pic comes up when they ring you. I think
it could do with being a little more streamlined, have a bigger screen
and less fidly more responsive buttons.

Received as a Christmas present - previously had Nokia 3310 so this
was completely different phone for me. I found it difficult to operate
at first; the instructions book is too difficult for the layman to understand
and the key pad is too small which makes room for error in number dialling
and texting. I also found that the method to send texts is complicated
having to keep switching from one side of the phone to the other to
OK, ADDRESS, SEND etc The other problem I have is trying to upload the
photos taken. I was told by Motorola that I needed to purchase the drivers
to complete the upload; so I merrily went down to the shop to buy the
relevant item only to be told that that isn't correct you download of
the website. Which I also found impossible - I now have photos on my
phone which I cannot access - very frustrating and disappointing. I
will not be purchasing another Motorola.
