Miele WDA211 review
|Review: March 2016|
In a nutshell: The Miele WDA211 WPM builds on the success of the WDA111, with an even higher energy efficiency rating. Apart from that, the machine is the same - a family-sized washer built to the highest specification and designed to last 20 years. It's efficient, it's quiet, it's easy to use and has a good range of wash options. If you're looking for a washing machine that will just do the job, time after time, the WDA211 is the machine for you.
The WDA211 is the same as the bestselling WDA111, except that the energy efficiency rating has been improved by 10% beyond the EU's maximum A+++ rating. That means it uses 10% less electricity each wash than the WDA111, making it one of the most efficient washing machines you can buy.
Miele's washing machines may look traditional, but the WDA211 is more contemporary than most, with a chrome finish around the door and a very useful LED display next to the controls. The whole control panel is sloping, making it a more comfortable machine to use than the basic WDA101.
The controls are very straightforward, with a single rotary dial to select the wash programme, plus push buttons to start the wash, open the door, select the "Water Plus" option, and to adjust the spin speed. Everything is so simple, you don't really need the user manual.
Like all Miele appliances, the WDA211 is rock solid, with a waterproof enamel finish, and a no-nonsense approach to construction.
Washing & performance
The machine's 7kg load capacity isn't the largest you can get, but it's certainly big enough for a family of three or four. There's a good choice of wash programmes on offer, including a handy Express 20 wash for freshening up clothes that aren't too soiled.
The spin speed is adjustable and reaches a maximum of 1400rpm, which is enough to get clothes moderately dry.
The WDA211 is rated A+++ -10% for energy efficiency, making it one of Miele's best ever performers in this respect. Some of Bosch's premium models like the Bosch WAW28660GB go further still, but nevertheless, the WDA211 is well ahead of the pack. It's a very quiet machine in operation too, although once again, the Bosch manages to outperform Miele here too.
If there's one thing that Miele excels at, it's reliability. All Miele washing machines are tested for 10,000 operating hours - the equivalent of 20 years of use. This makes the machine a sound investment.
Miele machines always impress us with their simple, solid design, and the company's dedication to reliability. The WDA211 upholds this tradition, and pushes the brand into 2016 with its clear LED display, easy controls and super efficient operation.
You'll have to dig deep into your pockets to afford this appliance, although it doesn't cost much more than rival flagship machines like the Samsung WW90H7410EW or the Bosch we mentioned earlier. If it lasts for 20 years, you'll find that the cost really wasn't so great after all.
You can save about £100 by opting for the slightly less efficient Miele WDA111.

My last Miele washing machine lasted 26 years and was still working when I got rid of it. It was the basic model.
The WDA211 is good having the 20 minute wash but some of the other programmes are very lengthy. One being over 3 hours duration! Haven't had an electricity bill as yet to find out if we are making a saving on our bills.
