LG Viewty KU990 Review
Phone rating:
In a nutshell: We still love the Viewty! Combining a touchscreen
user interface with plenty of technology, the Viewty ticks nearly all
the boxes: 5 megapixel camera, 3G video calling, MP3 player, FM radio
and HSDPA for broadband internet speeds and bags of memory. Available
in black, silver, purple & pink.
Review: November 2007. Last updated June 2011.
The LG Viewty was one of the first touchscreen phones to be released. At the
time of launch it stood head and shoulders above most other phones, and has
remained a favourite ever since. Originally a very expensive handset, the Viewty
is now priced as an entry-level phone and is excellent value for money. We originally
awarded the Viewty 5 stars, but three years is a long time in the mobile world.
Having said that, the Viewty still offers a lot, which is why it's remained
in the shops such a long time.
Apart from its touchscreen user interface, the Viewty has several pleasures
waiting to be discovered. The camera is rated at 5 megapixels with a high quality
Schneider-Kreuznach lens, autofocus and a SmartLight feature that makes after-dark
photographs considerably clearer. You can also vary the ISO setting to ISO 800
for improved brightness in low light. In common with many digital cameras, the
Viewty's camera incorporates an Image Stabiliser function for minimising camera
shake. The Viewty can't match the very best camera phones from Nokia or Sony
Ericsson, but it definitely ranks as a good camera phone. As well as a top notch
still camera, the Viewty's video camera is also something special. It films
at very high frame rates - up to 120 frames per second, which enables special
effects such as slow motion filming. There are built-in picture-editing and
video-editing tools to make the most of these cameras. In addition, a second
front-facing camera enables 3G video calls.
The Viewty's music player is nice and easy to use and can handle virtually
every music format: MP3/AAC/AAC+/AAC++/WMA. There's also an FM radio built in.
Stereo headphones are supplied in the box, and you can use optional mono or
stereo Bluetooth headphones
if you prefer. The Viewty's memory is quite generous, with 90 Mbytes of internal
memory and up to 2 Gbytes of additional memory (microSD
memory card).
We've already mentioned that the Viewty is a 3G phone. In fact it's 3.5G, i.e.
it supports extra fast 3G connections using HSDPA which enables download speeds
of up to 3.6 Mbps. Bluetooth and USB connectivity are available, and a USB cable
is supplied in the box. The Viewty supports web browsing and email, and there's
a useful document viewer that can handle all common file formats (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, PDF).
We still love the Viewty. The fact that it's still in the shops today shows
what a high-end product it was at launch. Still, it's looking dated now with
a relatively primitive user interface, and missing features like GPS and Wi-Fi.
You might consider the HTC Wildfire or Samsung
Galaxy Mini as more modern alternatives.
Features of the LG Viewty KU990 include:
- 5 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach lens, autofocus and SmartLight
- Video recording (MPEG4, 320 x 240 pixels, 120 frames/second)
- 3G video calling (VGA camera, 30 frames/second)

I've still got this phone sat next to me on my desk, right now as I
type (although the battery's dead and I can't find the charger). I haven't
used it in a couple of years but I'm so glad I kept hold of it, and
I'll explain why in a second.
I remember when I first got hold of the phone, feeling impressed with
the quality and feel of it in my hand. It's nice and weighty, and doesn't
feel like a small breeze would break it in half. Love the fact that
it looks like a small camera on the back, and a phone on the front -
obviously LG's selling point at the time, given that it was billed as
a pure camera phone. Connectivity to my computer was something I rarely
bothered with as I never used it as an mp3 player (I had an ipod for
that), but whenever I wanted to dump some pictures onto my computer
to free up space on the phone, it seemed to do it with minimal fuss
(If I remember rightly, as this was a couple of years ago now, the software
CD that came with the phone was a bit cumbersome to install, but did
the trick once up and running).
Microphone and speaker quality are good, the touch-screen, whilst now
completely outdated by the iPhone 4 standard, works perfectly well,
internet connectivity is a bit of a pain but can be done (someone recommended
downloading opera mini - haven't tried it myself but may give it a go).....
All in all, it's still a cracking little phone even by today's standards.
It blitzes the frankly awful LG Arena I upgraded to (and I still massively
regret even thinking about using that phone - it's still sat next to
me now, and hasn't been touched in over a year), and still makes some
mid-range and virtually all low-range phones of today look clunky and
useless.
Now for the best bit - I thought my little viewty would be dead forever
as the battery died on it, but I've just had a little play around and
discovered that although I thought differently way back, the battery
from the Arena (that still works) fits into the viewty perfectly! Now
I can use the viewty as a mobile camera as well as a back-up phone!
Happy days!

I have had the LG Viewty since it came out in 2007. I still like it
but it is becoming more and more obvious that it just doesn't compete
with the modern smart-phones out there. However, the camera is still
very good, and the call quality and speakers are excellent as well.
The touchscreen is good for a phone that old, and the all metal chassis
gives it a premium feel, that the Galaxy S2 doesn't have.

I had a purple Viewty in Jan 2009 (18-month contract on Orange), mate
had a silver one. Loved the solid and heavy feel of the all-metal chassis,
vibrant colours on the screen. Camera was good for a phone (5MP) but
I still used my 10MP compact as my main camera. Good mature version
of Symbian OS, supporting application downloads, installed easily. It
was a shame that Symbian got overshadowed by Android and iOS in the
end. Predecessor to my Viewty was Sony-Ericsson P990i. Successor was
Samsung Galaxy Apollo.

I think everything about the phone is great except one major flaw. That
is it is a great camera great Mp3 player but when it comes to text messages
you can only send very very very short messages even my old Nokia 1100
messages are more than twice the length, however there is a solution
but it cost you money, send it in two or MMS. The other major major
major problem is that if you receive more than about six message the
phone suddenly becomes unable to send or receive messages and the only
way round is to do a factory reset (dial 3845#*990# then select option
8). However this delete any thing in the phone memory including any
music or messages you may need to reply to so you need a pen and paper
to make a note of them. Its hard to comprehend that the manufacturer
thought this acceptable technology. If you ever send text messages......
"DON'T BUY THIS PHONE!". 5 Stars for the camera and MP3 ....."1" star
for the phone.. I'm feeling generous.

Well I have had the Viewty for just on 2 weeks and before i bought the
viewty as normal I read ALL the reviews below and deceided after great
thought to go for it. so now after messing about with it I can answer
some things people have said below. Firstly if your going to buy a phone
like this, Dont just turn it on and expect great miracles, Reading the
manual does help. In one week I had full length dvd's on the phone.
Mp3's had no problem there either. sound quality = no problem very good.
bluetooth works perfect. internet = no problems there either. now everyone
says about the scrolling on the screen but i have not found this either
to be a problem and with little practice this becomes second nature.
sending messages has not proved difficult either, i read reports below
saying it was slow to type messages and this did worry me but once i
got into the phone i find this very quick and really speaking sometimes
faster than the use of the hand using the attached stylus. people complained
of the stylus hanging from the phone like a charm, well the stylus is
a little charm alright and looks neat and does the job nicely. the menus
are precise and easy to follow. the phone has not frozen once the battery
lasts three days with loads of usage on it so people who say it lasts
one day if that must be on it overtime. the camera is really easy to
use and must be set up correctly to get the best out of it. you dont
just click camera and shoot and think the camera does all the work for
you. I can only come to one end to this and that is if you don't own
a computer or are not computer literate or minded then dont buy this
phone. if you dont like the thought of touchscreen again steer clear.
if you don't read manuals, have a very short fuse, dont like gadgets,
stay away. now if you have the time to explore and learn new technology
then go and get this phone. What made me more mad was the fact that
people rubbish this phone after playing with it for one or two days
and dont apprieciate what has gone into making a work of art, and that
simply is what it is. A WORK OF ART. so do i have any gripes about it
? well one yes the lens could be doing with a cover, but it comes with
a plastic protection on it and you can buy these and protect it forever
yourself doing away with the need for a cover over the lens. or does
everyone throw there phone in pockets/handbags with the keys rubbing
against them. for these people i have little sympathy. this phone boasts
5mp camera, hdspa internet with 3g connectivity, an optical zoom lens,
flash, video camera and then the ability to do everything the iphone
will do on top. so ask yourself if your considering buying the iphone
do you really want a phone that has no 3g connectivity, no flash, no
zoom, a 2mp camera, and no video camera. I rest my case the future has
been bought to light with the LG Viewty, apple stayed in the dark times
of 5 years ago The Viewty is a fantastic phone and if you see a review
saying different do as i did ignore it.

I really pity those who condemn this phone as though it was a cheap
an useless phone. I bought this phone for just three days, and bless
me, I have had the best of experiences. To think this phone is a flop,
I will call it a breakthrough in technology. I have had the opportunity
to use different types of Sony Ericson and Nokia phones and know a good
phone when i see one. Infact the viewty is one of the best phones I
ever bought with cash. I wish it ha wi fi, yet this subtracts no marks
from the phones quality

I have had this phone for a week and a half on upgrade from Orange,
having previously owned a Sony Ericsson K800i. In all I do think it
is a really good phone in many respects but I do have a few gripes with
it too. I don't think I will ever find a phone that is 100% perfect
though so I'm still trying to get to grips with this! My biggest priority
was a 5 mega pixel phone. I would have upgraded to the new Sony Ericsson
but it's ugly, & the Nokia & Samsung 5 mega pixel phones are bricks.
So I thought I would go for this as it looks really good, as good as
the iPhone looks and I have heard that the camera and internet connectivity
on that are pants! I am disappointed though that the quality of the
photos doesn't seem as good as my 3.2 mega pixel K800i. Maybe this could
be because it has more advanced features & I just haven't got to grips
with it properly yet. But unfortunately it switches back to the default
settings as soon as you have finished taking pics & therefore there
is no taking advantage of photo opportunities at the drop of a hat without
each time fiddling with the settings first. It is also disappointing
that there is no lens cover & the lens gets covered in fingerprints
when using the jog wheel! The video camera seems really good though.
I have noticed other comments from earlier reviews stating that when
they have uploaded photos on the computer & compared them with photos
from their previous phone they have found them to not be as high in
quality. I haven't been able to check this out for myself as my Adobe
Photoshop won't find photos from this new phone for some reason! However,
the software supplied with the phone seems more user friendly than the
Sony Ericsson software. As a serial texter, my biggest issues are that
once you enter a recipient, there seems to be no option to edit or delete
the recipeint if you have entered the wrong one. Instead you have to
delete your message and start again! Also there is no option to copy
text & paste into a new message. You can copy & paste but only within
the same message. Also there are no emoticons which I find really strange!
On the positive side the phone looks fab. Contrary to other reports
I have found the battery life to be excellent. I also think that the
sound quality from the music player is excellent & I have had no trouble
importing MP3 files from my PC. I haven't managed to tune any radio
stations in though! I notice some people have complained about the touch
screen control but it comes easy once you have got to grips with it.
The internet speed is really good. I don't care that there is no sat
nav as I have a separate sat nav devise & quite frankly would struggle
to view maps on a mobile screen. It would have been a bonus to have
WiFi connectivity though. In all I think this is a really good phone.
It looks really stylish and has a lot of features that were missing
on my previous phone, though I do wish it had the capability to edit
& delete text recipients, copy & paste text & display emoticons. This
wouldn't put me off buying it though. I am never fully satisfied with
a new phone at first! I have tried every other brand of handset previously
& this is my first LG. In comparison I'm not disappointed. There are
lots of things that are different that will take me longer to get used
to but that just means I won't get bored with it too quickly which is
a good thing! I've not been able to find a case for the phone though
despite the LG website stating that they are available. If you are thinking
of getting this phone, I would recommend giving it a go. I'm sure that
people who do have trouble with it crashing, etc, are in the minority
as I have had no such problems.

Got my Viewty for free from O2, and they reduced my monthly contract
cost as well! So, already onto a winner even if I never opened the box.
Previously I had a heavyweight O2 XDA Exec. Still, gave Viewty a go
and I loved it straight away. Its not perfect but its cool enough that
you'll learn to live with the quirks. Awaiting a call-back from LG UK
to explain how to create EMS messages (with animations) which I can
receive OK from my wife's SE K800i. Viewty has animations in it somewhere,
but no menu option to insert them into an SMS. Complaints: LG need to
add a lens cover, add an integral stylus, make other LG accessories
like TV cable available in UK. More games would be nice. "Ryan in UK"
said no voice dialing - pls add it, LG! How about SatNav software too?
With that, I could ditch my XDA Exec!

i have with the LG Viewty is mainly a couple of cosmetic issues firstly
id prefer when i recieve a text for the phone to show me the little
image of who it is that has text me like all other phones does rather
than a "message recieved" notification and also texting can be a pain
as you have to basically type a letter a second, fast texters beware
your message would look real weird going hell for leather !!! The main
problem i have and the only reason i am using my W850i again over this
phone is the fact it does not have voice dialling which is an absolute
must on a phone being a hgv driver i cant be looking down at who to
ring, 9/10 for phone just a few features need adding or tarting up.

This is an update to my initial 24 hour appraisal further down he reviews
here. Firstly, to get a bug off my chest, why are the worst reviews
so often written by the less literate amongst us...? To the phone: Now
that I've had it for over a month I both love and hate it. I just got
back from a 12,000 mile trip during which the phone served most admirably
as camera and video camera but that zoom located around the lens...
WHY...???? A simple scroll wheel on the side of the phone would work
so much better and could also serve as a volume control or menu scroll
button, come on LG, it isn't rocket science. That said, texting is now
a breeze, for the more impetuous out there, any phone takes some getting
used to, finger size vary as does digit dexterity, there is no such
thing as a perfect phone, each to their own, that doesn't make the viewty
a one star phone, technologically it's brilliant. The screen is bright
and crisp, the speaker may lack any bass but the music player serves
perfectly adequately, I love the picture/video selection screen and
watching movies is perfectly do-able too, the battery life has proven
just dandy and it's taken its fair share of knocks over the last three
weeks with ne'er a complaint heard. The bottom line is it's a phone,
an organiser, a music and video player and a web browser, all of which
it does most adequately. I admit the iPhone touch screen is 100% more
responsive and intuitive but if you want up to date technology over
your shortfall in dexterity then this is the phone for you. I hate that
scroll wheel and the speaker but I still love the phone.

IT'S THE LOOKS AND GIMICKS YOU WANT AND NOT A PHONE YES THIS MAY BE
AN OPTION. I am disappointed. The camera is clunky to use. The phone
can't be configured to your taste espcially the icons you see at startup.
You dont know if there are any voice messages waiting for you unless
your operator sends a text. No tape symbold to indcate voice mail. In
a very good signal area on two separate Viewty phones I kept losing
the signal. The bettary life is hopeless. the talk time maybe as low
as 60 minutes. Three have offered me a third replacement Viewty. I am
not accepting the offer. I am returning to nokia. The touchpad is quite
good but not functional. The camera locks up the the touch screen quite
often and god only knows how to adjust this setting. At the time I bought
this phone the LG mobile website didn't list this as LG model. They
do now but don't list any manuals or software revisions. In the 120
fps mode the video camera requires huge amounts of light to operate.
I would buy seprate gadgets for GPS, camera and music. Not a minimally
tested piece of softeare inside a camera phone.

OK. Got this as an upgrade from an Nokia N73 on Orange (due to lack
of iPhone!). On 3rd N73 so looking for quality. Out of the box seemed
really solid. Touch screen not a patch on iPhone though. On a par with
HTC Touch. Lack of storage for stylus is bizarre. Anyhow sending it
back as (A) Absolutely no ability to sync with Apple Mac through iSync
and (B) Bluetooth does not even provide browse capability. Why don't
the manufacturers work harder on PC and Mac sync. It's so important
given the time we invest in putting information into these things? Shame.
Expected a lot. Disappointed.

Thought I should add a review as I found all the other reviews useful
in making my decision to buy the viewty..... I have had the phone 4
days now and I love it. It's so different from any other phone I've
had and so it's taken a bit of getting used to, but I think it's pretty
easy to use now and it's getting easier day by day as I get used to
the touchscreen and scrolling. I am now finding it as easy to use as
any standard keypad phone that I have ever had for most things. Navigating
is very easy and the menus are simple and logical. The only thing I
am not sure I could do is to text accurately if I was busy (e.g. walking
along the street) but it is early days and I like the QWERTY keyboard
option for texting which I think is quicker but you really have to use
the stylus on this as the fingers can hit the wrong letters. The battery
life has been pretty amazing as I have only charged it once and have
been playing with the phone loads over the 4 days I've had it. I put
some tunes on today from my computer which was easy enough. I have accessed
google, facebook and hotmail easily online, but this was not quite as
quick as I'd hoped (ie not broadband speed - more like broadband on
a very bad day) but then I have nothing to compare it with, but certainly
great for times when there is no computer nearby. I also downloaded
a brain trainer game for £5 which is not bad and utilises the touchscreen.
The camera takes fab pics too, possibly even better than my very nice
5MP digital camera. I didn't notice any blurring and the flash was good
in dim light (have not tested it in the dark yet). Took a little video
which was clear too with good sound. I bought a fab case and screen
protector from a little mobile stand in an indoor shopping centre too
(as none of the mobile shops seemed to stock them). The negative points:
the sound during calls is a little quiet, I have struggled to hear the
conversation where there has been a lot of background noise (e.g. traffic)
but ok in normal circumstances. The touchscreen needs practice to be
able to scroll easily but now I'm ok after a few days. I didn't get
any games free (with T-mobile). There isn't a 'delete all' option in
messages and you can only send a msg to 10 people at a time. Oh and
it took me ages to work out how to delete a mistake when writing a text
msg as you have to use one of the buttons off the screen - just feels
a bit wrong. What else is there to say? I'm glad I got a viewty and
have no regrets.

Its very easy to use (you have to be realy realy stupid if you cant
nav your way around this phone)although the scrolling functions can
somtimes be a little anoying, but useable .I havent seen or found phone
that is perfect and the ku990 is very nearly perfect. the 120fps video
recording is amazing you cant even get this function on any camcorder.
The divx playback is supurb and very watchable. The mp3 player is fantastic
and the battery life isnt bad considering. Web browsing is good to and
with 3.5G is a lot faster than the iphone. The constuction of this phone
is supurb with a thin but very tough alloy battery cover and general
feel of quality. the operating system is very solid and i havent had
a single crash or freeze up in the 8 weeks i have had the phone. As

Had the phone about a week now ,and I have never had so much fun playing
with a new phone. It is impossible to put down.Had the S.E k800i prior
to this, which was hugely capable,(and still has the better camera),but
the large touch screen interface and editing options on the viewty make
it a far more rewarding phone to own. Yes the scrolling is a pain. The
trick is to not let the stylus leave the screen untill you have found
the page section you want, then it will scroll up and down quite nicely.
Slow motion video playback is a real hoot.Spent all sunday filming my
son recreating all the greatest sporting moments of the last decade
in super slow-mo. Great phone!

I've had my LG Viewty for a week now. I have changed phones started
from Nokia's to Sony ericsson's and now to the LG Viewty through orange
upgrades. I love this phone. I've had no problems with battery life
(it is on always 24/7). My charging days is like any other type of phone
between 3/4 days.(just use a standby screensaver eg the time). I disagree
with people when they say the screen and can be scratched (doh- any
phone screen with camera without a cover can be scratched). For mp3's
or Mp4's music use any media program to transfer it using a USB lead
(the lead is the same if you have a PS3 controller or just a digital
camera eg Cybershot), but make sure the sound level is correct before
the transfer. Some Mp3's or Mp4's sound good on a Laptop or Computer,
but the sound level could be half what it should be. Anyway I recommend
this phone, it might be wierd to someone new to use this or to someone
who is that stubborn but it's worth having.

I was very reluctant to buy this phone after buying the Shine and the
Prada. Both of which were very poor on volume, user interface and camera. However,I
convinced myself that I would give L.G. one more try after reading many
tech specs and forums about the 'Viewty' To be honest,I was amazed with
its vast improvements, including the volume level and of course, the camera
which is far better than most new 5 megapixel camera phones on the market.I
was somewhat confused when the battery only lasted for less than 24
hours.Back to the 02 shop, and a new Viewty was back at home on a 12
hour charge. The results were almost the same with minimal usage and
all power/brightness settings to low.The battry still would not get
me through a full 24 hours without going completly flat.If L.G. could
fix this battery consumption problem,or at least offer a higher capacity
battery,then maybe,just maybe,I might buy another.

phone, very nice and slick. Scrolling on the phone is actually very,
very simple (Move UP to go down and DOWN to up. Very easy to get to
grips with) and I've had no troubles with the phone apart from looking
around on the phone and accidently calling 118888 costing me 60p extra.
Also using the Keypad for texts is usefull but damn annoying if you
dont press a letter because it asks you if you want to save to drafts
or not, what ever you press it logs you back to the menu and you have
to find it or start again. Also....Where the heck is the volume control

fan ( i just love the logical & rational layout of the menu, the ease
of use, excellent sound, better camera & loads of apps). yes, the viewty
is a beauty. slick & shiny BUT that's about it. the phones don't come
preloaded with google apps & u can't install them even after downloading
them. scrolling down the menu gave me a blistered & hypersensitive finger
tip trying to use the scroll wheel at the back on the lens. actually
i found that more easier than sliding my finger along the side of the
scroll bar on the touch screen as i kept opening the highlighted option
rather than scrolling numerous times. very, very frustating. the camera
is good but hey, if i want one there are other phones equally good if
not better. u can't expect to be intuitive as you navigate the menu
system & some options need you to click more than twice to confirm or
revert back a step. thankfully, i got the CPW guy to write down on my
contract that i could return the phone if i wasn't satisfied. finally,
even the catalogue is not detailed enough with very few diagrams/pictures.
sony ericsson here i come, please forgive me for not having faith in

I love this phone - my previous phones were a motorola brick, an LG
U8120 (lovely if flimsy clam and the 1st good looking 3 fone IMHO),
a Nokia N70 and a Nokia N73. The Viewty is easily my favourite - I had
gone for the N73 because I liked the N70 so much, but it felt plasticy
- much less metal on it than the N70, and it kept dieing while sending
txts - in the end I had to download a software update for it. Firstly,
the Viewty is a beauty - the pics online and on the ad don't do it justice
- the screen side is slick and stylish, the cam side looks like a dedicated
camera, and the chrome trim is lovely. The Viewty is well built. It
feels solid but not heavy or clunky in your hand. I had feared it would
be flimsy like my LG U8120, but hats off to LG, this feels every bit
the top end phone it is. Calling is a joy - I don't think I'll ever
tire of using the on screen number pad to dial - it looks so cool and
futuristic, and the vibration feedback is for letting you know you haven't
mis-hit the pad. Call quailty is fine, and surprisingly, the Viewty
doesn't get hot after a few minutes, unlike the U8120 which used to
overheat and switch off. Again, texing is great - you can use predictive
texting, regular texting, a landscape QWERTY keyboard, or, my fave,
handwriting. The viewty will recognise letters you write on the screen
with your finger or the stylus - and the times it gets this wrong are
very few (I have found you need to use lower case for it to be more
accurate). The camera is awesome - 5 megapixels, a great flash, panoramic
pictures, and the ability to write on the pictures... and the video
cam has 120 FPS - 120 frames per second. This is a real luxury - you
can make slo-mo movies and the quality is still good. No more apologising
when you upload something to You Tube because the vid is grainy as it
was taken on a camfone. There is also a TV Out function, so if you get
the optional cable, you can view pics and videos on your telly. Niiice!
The music player is good - at first I thought the volume was very poor.
I had just cranked up the volume on the earfones - but there is another
volume control on the player, and I used the jog-wheel on the cam lens
to increase this and the volume is more than adequate now. I had been
waiting for a Viewty for a fortnight - the 3 store were sold out all
the time. I went in yesterday and they had none. The slaesperson tried
to push the Sony Eriksson K850i on me, saying LG is a bad make, 'worse
than Goodmans' . I didn't like the K859i - it felt heavy and the buttins
were tiny - I wouldn't fancy texting on it. Also I have heard the touch
screen gets unintentionally used when you are on a call. Also, none
of the workers in the store seemed to own a K850i - two had the Viewty
and the other had an N95. I got the feeling they just wanted to push
the K850i on me rather than have me get a Viewty elsewhere... I had
also considered the i-phone, but felt that going back to a 2 megapixel
camera after the 3.2 of my Nokia N73 was a step too far. Also, my mate
works in a mobile store and said they have had a lot of faulty i-phones
returned, and that the web browser isn't great either. The phone looks
nice, but as with Apple, you seem to pay a lot more for much lower spec
(compare Macs to PCs and you will see what I mean). The last phone I
considered was the Nokia N95. It looked a bit dull to me, and felt plasticy
- I don't know why, maybe it's cost cutting, but since my N70, the N
series seem to have worse and worse build quality. Also the dual slide
feature on the N95 is a bit gimmicky - the media slide controls are
also elsehwere on the phone - so a bit unnecessary IMHO. Also, the N95
is a smartfone - great if you use a lot of office applications, but
not a great entertainment mobile in my opinion. In conclusion, I love
my Viewty - and my mates can't stop fiddlin with it when we're in the
pub. Especially the slo-mo vids and the screensaver with the goldfish
that swims towards where ever you touch on the screen! If you appreciate
style and a nice feeling handset, with the latest technology, this is
for you. Despite the shops constantly running out, nobody I know has
one yet...which is nice! If you purely want a music player on a phone,
maybe the i-phone is worth the £269. Or even a Sony walkman phone. Or
if you want an alternative to a blackberry, maybe the N95 is what you
might like to try. But, if, like me, all round performance, style, and
that 'wow' factor is important, the Viewty is top dog. LG are often
associated with budget electronics (like 20 quid DVD players), but this
is really a top notch piece of equipment. I can't fault it (yet!). I'm
just wondering if I will be able to outdo myself when I am due another
upgrade - because for me this is my favourite phone EVER.

the fact that the small touch screen area could not be locked during
a call, this phone locks immediately during a call so there are no problems
with interupting calls. Ive had NO problems texting or scrolling, it
takes practice people shouldnt expect to be used to the phone straight
away, be patient and give it time dont give up on it after a couple

LG Viewty = simply the coolest phone ever. i have read some of the bad
reports and seems to me that theses people are incapable of using it
properly. This phone is truly amazing, easy to use excellent photos
(only let down by the screen resolution). I looked at the i-phone &
samsung G800 in the US, they cant compete with this masterpiece. It
is simple to use with a fantastic response on the touch screen. LG your
a winner its a biewty !!!!!!!!!!!!!! (i wanted to lie and say it was
rubbish to stop everyone getting it)

Had a few doubts about the touch screen before I ordered this phone.
That it might be hard to write texts etc.. But its one of the easiest
phones to text on that ive had. Vibrating feature when you touch the
screen is handy. I went for this phone after I watched the Gadget Shows
review of the iPhone. Basically they said the iPhone was rubbish, and
I agree. The Viewty is a real iPhone beater. Loads of camera features
that are cool. The one thing that excited me was the 120fps recording
function. I have recorded some cool vids with it, which I have posted
on YouTube. lol The battery life has amazed me this week. I charged
on Monday evening, and here I am on Friday evening with 3 out of 4 bars
still showing. Anyone that has had a glance at it, has asked me did
I get an iPhone.. lol Just buy it, its cool... :)

Oh dear, it looks the nuts and the camera is amazing! Alas four days
in and the first problem is a line through the inside of the screen!
Getting the phone to go on loudspeaker seems to be an issue? Texting
is so hard as you cant scroll easily through. Battery is poor, address
book needs some display options as all mine wants to do is display second
name first. Can't find a delete all text button and the stupid jog dial
feels cheap and fragile. It's off to o2 and I need to sort out what's
next. Maybe a k850 as at the end of the day it's got to be a phone primary
then a camera, rather than a camera trying to be a phone as the LG is.

- Good Camera,mp3 great and to top it off has a radio! The touch screen
works well, 3G and web browsing are very fast. Have always used Samsungs
so making the change to the LG was a gamble but came up a winner. Cannot
fault this phone has to be the best looking and best feature packed
phone on the market! Battery well i have not found it an issue average
i get from it is 3 days and i use mine a lot ! So should you buy this
phone ? Yes its Great !

I'm a grandma and I think the phone is great, love it. Touch screen
and recognition vibration is very helpful. It took a bit of practice
to get the handwriting recognition perfected but no problems now.Scrolling
facility makes finding contacts so easy. Only problem I have is the
headphone connector, instruction to use charger connection but the connectors
are a different shape. I'll go back to retailer. Husband has just bought
a Nokia N95 black, the Veiwty is much easier to use and not half as
frustrating.

This phone is pretty good, although it has some bad points, as said
before, when on a call the phone locks, so if you have to enter any
numbers while on a call you have the hassle of unlocking it first, some
might think that's a minor thing, but it kind of annoyed me. Another
thing, is because the 'key' buttons come up on the screen when writing
a text, the space where you're message is actually typed, is quite small,
only showing 3 lines before it disappears off the top. I found it difficult
to scroll back up to re-check a text before sending, and even harder
if you are texting while doing something else, like walking or something.
I'm used to being able to text without really looking at the screen
and being able to move from button to button, and as this is a touchscreen,
this is impossible! Also the camera is nothing near a 5MP, I took photos
of my friend dancing at the weekend, in a bright atmosphere and they
were blurry and pale. My old K800i takes much better photos and it's
a 3.2MP. There are some nice features, the touchscreen is nice to use,
better than the 3 touchscreen buttons on the K850i and the slight vibrating
feedback you get when you press a button is good. Texting is good, other
than the earlier issue with the space. As I wasn't sure if I was going
to keep it, I had to carry it around in a sock! It could potentially
get really scratched. It could do with a cover to keep it in. The big
screen is really cool, took abit of time getting used to the small screen
on the K800i when I packaged the viewty up. So overall, this is a pretty
good phone, but as I have said if you are a quick texter then this phone
isn't for you. And the camera isn't near what I thought it would be.
I've sent it back to 02 and might wait and see what the Samsung G800
is like when it comes out! Until then I'll stick with my reliable K800i,
it's the best so far!

I have to agree with Elle from Scotland. I got this phone as an upgrade
yesterday...it's now for sale on eBay. If I was to rate this phone based
primarily on its features, it would easily be six stars...yet a phone
also needs to be user-friendly. This phone just isn't. LG made a serious
mistake in having the jog-wheel on the back to be used for scrolling
through menus. It is so temperamental and you have to give it a good
push before the menus will scroll. Also, it is not a smooth scroll.
This is where Apple got it right with the iPhone...about the only thing
they got right, I'll hasten to add! If LG had made it possible to scroll
with your finger on this phone, I would definitely be keeping this phone.
But I played with it for about an hour, and in that time along, the
scroll function frustrated the hell out of me. I cannot imagine what
it would be like on a busy day out shopping or something and you need
to bang out a quick text to someone! Nightmare! Not to mention it's
virtually impossible to scroll with the jog-wheel using only one hand.
Another thing I wasn't took keen on is the size...coming from a neat
little Nokia 6300, the Viewty is chunky, to say the least. Not quite
on the same level as the iPhone, but not far off. I know it's got a
5mp camera stored in there, along with plenty of other juicy features...but
when I've got a dedicated Cybershot digital camera, it's just not that
important to me. What I will say for this phone is that I was very impressed
with the touchscreen and the vibration feedback you get. Also, texting
was a lot easier than I imagined...it was the navigating through menus
that was a nightmare, which unfortunately, is very important. This phone
is technically fantastic, but it's too much like hard work for me, I'm
afraid. I want a phone I can make a quick call on, send a few texts
and take a few snapshots...while looking stylish at the same time. I
had hoped the Viewty would be just that, only with a touchscreen instead.
I now intend to use the profits from my Viewty to buy a Nokia 6500 Classic.
I'm a Nokia girl at heart!

I write with only having had my Viewty for 24 hours but I am thinking
initial fisrst impressions here. The phone itself is very stylish and
attractive, the beeps that accompanied every press of the virtual buttons
were soon got rid of in the settings, I find the simple vibrations to
be reassurance enough of any key pressing. Look deep enough and you
will find a way to adjust the phone to your own preferneces. The camera
is fine, don't forget you have to adjust the ISO and mode settings for
the best results and, contrary to popular belief, the lens has a small
clear plastic cover in front of it though goodness knows how long that
will remain unscratched.. Video facility is about the best out there,
if the audio sounds tinny, invest in some decent earphones..! That is
why they provided the extension to take a regular earphone jack. The
scroll function isn't a touch on the iPhone which is MUCH more user
friendly but that is a minor niggle, the up to date technology more
than mak es up for that. Overall, I think a lot of minor initial issues
would soon be overcome with more regular usage as with all mobile phones,
you'll never find one that suits everyone instantly. I persuded my girlfriend
to get one free on contract just so I could swap it with my nearly new
SE K810i and truth be told I have no regrets at all, I am looking forward
to a long and meaningful relationship with both her and my Viewty, they
both have their flaws but at the end of the day I wouldn't swap either
of them. Five stars.

camera or go to my pics/Vid's from stand bye mode the phone freezes

i have had so many mobile phones now and posted so many reviews for
all different phones on this site now its making me look a right saddo, but
anyway. what an amazing phone,eh!. i have always stayed away from lg
and motorola like the plague as they are known for unreliable and faulty
phones that normally don't last two minutes, but this phone has me bowled
over. I read all reviews available on this and the prada phone just
to see whether this would be a fluke and actually be a decent phone
and it seems lg are raising the standards and becoming as threatening
to sony ericsson and samsung. the camera is amazing with all the same
spec as se's k8 series like auto focus, xenon flash and image stabiliser
etc.beats the k850i hands down.loads of wicked features to play with.very
easy to use and sexy to look at.there is just so much i like about this
phone i could fill a whole page so i will give you the short story.
Buy this phone, its 100 per cent better than the iphone and se k850i.
