LG U8120 Review
Phone rating:
Review: September 2004.
The LG U8120 is a clamshell style 3G phone available on the 3 network. It
supports all of 3's video mobile services including video calling from its built-in
video camera. An integrated speakerphone helps to make video calling easier.
You can also record video clips to send to another phone, and download video
from 3, for example news, music and sports clips. Apart from a slight external
makeover, the only real difference between the LG U8120 and the LG U8110 is
the increased memory size. The increased memory is a welcome addition, and the
new phone does look a tad nicer, but apart from that the spec of the new phone
is identical to the old, and they are the same in terms of size, weight and
battery life. All our comments for the U8110 still
apply.
The camera is of VGA resolution, which is standard amongst current camera phones.
The high-resolution display is clear and sharp with 65k colours - ideal for
viewing videos and photos. It's one of the best displays around.
Functionally, the phone has a very similar spec to the other 3G phones currently
available. This includes features like an MP3 player, voice recorder, Java applications,
e-mail and MMS. The only features missing are Bluetooth wireless connectivity
and the advanced GPS (Global Positioning System) features available in the NEC
e616 for example. It does have both infrared and USB connections though,
which are a welcome addition.
Physically the phone is compact, very attractive, and is better styled than
most 3G phones. Being 3G it's larger than most clamshells, but no heavier than
other 3G phones. Battery life is good compared with most other 3G phones, which
is a key advantage, although most users will find that they need to recharge
every few days.
In summary, the 8120 is a good all-round performer, although it has now been
superseded by the LG U8130 which is essentially the
same but with improved software to reduce the frequency of calls dropped when
moving between 3G and 2.5G regions.
Features of the LG U8120 include:
- Supports all 3's video mobile services: video calling, video messaging &
downloading video clips
- Internal display: 65,536 colours, 220 x 176 pixels
- Built-in VGA camera (640 x 480 resolution) with 2x digital zoom and light
- MP3 player
- Voice recorder
- Speakerphone
- Multimedia messaging
- E-mail
- Java games
- Avatar address book – create cartoons of friends and family that pop-up
on screen every time they call
- Infrared and USB connectivity
- Calendar, To Do List, Memos, Clock, Alarm, Calculator, Currency Converter
- Memory: 32 Mbytes internal memory
- Vibration alert
- Weight: 126g
- Size: 50 x 96 x 23 mm
- Talktime: 2 hours
- Battery standby: 5 days

Not good the reception of calls on the 3 network is utter rubbish and
many txt messages have gone missing! also the 30 day validation period
for the top ups is a real downfall! the video is average quality and
i like the turning camera. but if u want a good phone then get a K500i
on orange or O2 that what i did it great unlimited video time (of ecxellent
quality)great fun 3D games and no network problems on O2 or orange and

Similar problems to everyone else, rubbish signal, no international
coverage when in France & Belgium (4 friends phones with Orange, Vodaphone
had no problems), unbeleivably bad customer service including having
the phone put down on me by the Indian call centre operative, because
she couldn't make me understand what it was that she couldn't explain!!!
And now the serious stuff my phone requred a "reset" regularly over
the 3 months that I had it (removing battery cos it had frozen up) and
until yesteday that worked. But now it w ill not wrk at all, after the
battery removal and re-insertion (this is actually in thier own litrature
as a justifiable procedure) the phone will not power back up. Now I
have to send it away for 5 days (because they dont count Sty & Sun in
the 3 day turnaround pledge) and when I do get it back all my data will
be lost including the last picture of my sttep dad tht I took a day
befor3e he died of cancer. If you have ANY sense at all you will avoid
"three" at all costs and avoid LG phones at all costs. I like a phrase
that I saw elsewhere 3hree words "do not buy".

I see the LG U8120 has been getting some bad reviews....I've had mine
a while now and i can honestly say it's one of the best phones i've
ever had (and God i've had quite a number)...The problem most people
seem to be having seem to be ones to do with the 3 network and not the
actual phone. If you can find a way round that (ie. UNLOCK IT) it really
is a very smart phone. Excellent camera, video and brilliant MP3 playback!
I LOVE IT!

to be honest i dnt even give this fone a tenth of a star. This is not
a phone. i could make a better one with my own hands- reasons bcuz what
kind of fone makes like 5second fone calls? what kind of fone switches
off and on itself? i was at mass rite- i switched off my fone-it decided
to switch itself on and even worse it started playing ringtones-full
volume wen no-one was even callin me!!. so i knew i had to get a new
one as soon as possible but in the mean time i threw it outside and
waited til mass was over!!!! dont buy this scrap metal. how about saving
like 150 quid and buy 2 paper cups and tying a bit of string to both
cuz u know wat it would work better!! cut off my head and boil it with
a hot roast if im wrong!! i hate this fone and i flippin h8 the whole
network. and remember paper cups are on sale at a store near you!! do
not buy it!! buy cups!! love ya sensible people who use paper cups!!
PAPER CUPS RULE!! (even tho im only partly serious about the paper cups
im still serious, but if u want a real cool fone- buy a camera fone
with a dependable network like 02 or vodafone-now they're dependable)
xxoo im still angry after the whole like 15minutes writing this warnin

to be true! cheap price plan and a smart full of features phone. At
first it was all good, no real problems with the network coverage, except
it did at times unexplicably hang up or u would have to phone people
a 2nd time before it would connect. and then it all went tits up! similar
to other people.Messed up menus, and now cant do anything cos its askin
for a security code which i dont know or have never changed, and which
by rights should be '0000' trying to sum up the customer support of
'3' and 'carphone warehouse' would be pointless! direct debit has been

A Phones4U store manager admitted to me this morning that on average
20-30 customers a day come in to complain about one problem or another
with the LG U8120. Furthermore, he was certain, based on conversations
with his colleagues, that this pattern is reflected across the country.
The same manager said the phone is fundamentally flawed with common
problems being: dropped calls, failure to receive calls (my latest problem),
frequent crashes....the list goes on and on and on. Oh, and if you're
expecting the phone to work abroad, forget it. On a recent trip to Paris,
it completely failed to connect with the local operator and a full week
after logging this problem, 3's technical support team have failed to
come up with an explanation for this. So, in short, this phone should
come with a huge health warning and most definitely deserves more bad
press than it has been getting to date. Rubbish.

Where should i start? At the moment my phone wont even switch on, although
even when it is switched on its still useless. When i phone anyone WITHOUT
A DOUBT my phone will hang up on them - even with a full signal. Absolutely
NOTHING works on my phone - thats right, NOTHING! The only thing i can
do with it is attempt to call someone - and make it a quick call before
the phone hangs up. How many times have i complained? Far too many.
I've just sent the fourth e-mail in two weeks to customer services and
they havent even bothered to call back. I've phoned the call centers
a few times and they were useless. The first time i called was because
of a problem with my charging cable and guess what their answer was?
'If you have a friend or relative with the same phone just borrow their
cable'. As far as 3 are concerned they can swivel on my middle finger,
because i'm not paying a bill for a phone i simply cant use. Why should
any of us have to pay them for services which is big joke. Their rolling
in our money and laughing their tits off at us. I've cancelled all payments
to them and i'm off now to write to watchdog - you should too.

After saying i live in the south west I was told Canterbury was my nearest!!
Finally got to one a bit nearer. A round trip off 80 miles then followed.
Got to the store only to be told that the engineer was not there until
Friday! Phoned 3 again and was told that I had been given the store

This phone has caused me nothing but trouble since I first bought it.
3 should take all these phones out of public service. I had previous
problems with this phone (Check out my previous review from 7th December
2004!) and it was sent back to me from the factory. 1 and a half months
on, and randomly, my screen (when I turned my phone on) is totally white.
It turns on (it vibrates so it's on) but the screen is totally blank
white, and I've tried ringing numbers off it even though nothing appears,
but that doesn't work. God help me if I'm in an emergency! What a waste
of time - I think I'll go back to pay as you go with another operator
after the contract is up! And in reply to Andrew's post towards the
end of January: A) If a phone is for calling and not playing games and
taking pictures, why did you buy a special camera phone - and why do
LG etc insist on making them and... B) It would be good to actually
CALL someone on a phone, when it never turns on or functions well enough
to even make a call!!!

I had nothing but trouble with this phone. I originally had the LG U8110,
which bit by bit gave me endless trouble. The screen changed to strange
colours and the screen was messed up and I could not see anything to
be able to call out. 3 customer services were so unhelpful. I sent the
phone 5 times and each time they returned it with the same fault! (Of
course I was without a phone for this time that I finally bought an
NEC e313 for temporary use - I put it for sale on EBAY when I finished
with it -and guess what?? 3 had my listing removed saying something
about infringing their rights!! I asked them to explain and they basically
sent me the same email! No explanation!!) Finally, I asked for a replacement
phone - and they sent me a second hand phone - even though they gave
me a faulty phone in the first place. I agree with some of these messages
- we should not have to pay for a service this bad - I have cancelled
my direct debit - and thanks to a message further down - I will use
the "Sale of Goods Rights" if they bother me - check out http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/facts/salegoodsact.htm

Ok, I've had this phone for just over 3 months and if you'd asked me
what I thought in November I would have had no problems with it. However,
since then there's been nothing but trouble. Ok, it's still a phone,
I can still call people but I could do that with my old 3310. But no,
I decided to go a bit better and agree to the "wonderful" deal of this
new phone with mp3 player, camera, video calling, WAP, MMS etc etc.
So far the connection to WAP doesn't work which means that the MMS service
also doesn't work. Video calling doesn't work. Camera has stopped working
and even when it did work the only way I've found to get the pictures
onto your computer is by emailing them (unfortunately without WAP that's
kinda difficult!) The battery lasts less than a day, and every so often
when I turn the phone on everything will be orange, in Italian and whatever
button I press takes me to the message screen. I've rung the very unhelpful
customer service centre based somewhere in India to be told that it
needed a factory reset. so i did that....fine, no problem...until it
did it again...and again. I've phoned about the WAP and MMS problems,
they were meant to be sorted in 24 hours...that was on 28th December
and it's still not working. Ok, so like I said, you can still call people
and get phone calls, but what the hell am I paying so much money a month
for?????? This phone and 3 have caused me so much trouble. They're very
unorganised and never know what you're talking about. As well as this
they've also tried to take me to court for not paying the bill on a
phone I've never had. Only now is that hopefully sorted out..and guess
what? it was an internal administration error. If there was any way
to get out of this contract I would but I can't see one other than paying
the rest of the contract off which I really don't fancy doing! Any ideas?
Email me on jay_c_81@hotmail.com. I could do with some help...in fact
I may copy this email to Watchdog, see if they could do something about
it as it seems that this is a pretty common problem

I am writing my review and observations of other reviews on the LG U8120
Handset. This phone proves to be a cutting-edge 3G phone, and consistently,
for my brother who owns such a phone, has been nothing but a pleasure
to own. There are many problems, and none come from the actual handset
itself. 1. Some handsets were released after a significant software
flaw, which in later sold handsets, had been cleared up. Mostly all
stuff-ups can be related to their software inbalance. 2. 3G network
- not a very good network to begin with. They're a growing network,
meaning coverage issues and whatnot will be sorted out in the next year
or so. Remember, this technology is way ahead of its time, and will
need a while to be perfected. 3. Considering this handset came from
LG, it should be a top-of-the-range mobile phone. If you are sending
your phone into repairs, I should recommend sending to LG repair centre,
and not to 3. Many users have been warned to stay away from 3, even
if it means to switch sims. Unless you have either dropped it on the
ground or splashed it with water, it should have no reason to screw
up. If you don't have a software update, and your problems are systematic,
it won't be the reapirer's job to fix it - they wouldn't have a clue
on how to fix it. Make sure you do have this ever-so important update
before you do anything. STAY AWAY FROM 3! miickEe.

This phone started off great! Ya know you've got all you need!! Video,
Camera, 'Free Downloads', mp3 player, infa red blah blah blah you know
the rest, but after about a month of getting this phone the phone decided
to turn off and then turn on by its self right in the middle of texting
(annoying enough) but when the phone turned on it said 'write new name'
and then i soon dicovered EVERYTHING was in the wrong place. For exmaple
the messages; inbox was now called 'incoming international calls' and
outbox was 'outgoing international calls' and random words came up like
when i phoned anybody up where it should've said 'hold' said 'am'. The
front display had stopped working and all i could see was a faint time.
I rang up 3 (at the time it said i was phoning the netherlands :S) and
it was something about language (if you have this problem, press menu,
9, 9, then 1) this did work and put everything back in its place and
rightful name HOWEVER, the front display STILL did not work, any shortcut
i pressed lead to the messages ALWAYS, the video camera layout was still
distorted (the camera still worked it was just the layout). I am very
dissapointed that this had happened. Also Beware of 'FREE' downloading,
MOST of it is not free as i discovered with my £135 bill!!!! Most
displeasing!!!! I would not recommend this phone at all!!! PHONES 4
U SUCK!!! The assistant was talking complete gibberish to me and i understood

I have had the same problem(s) as others here. I used to be on an O2
contract £30 a month for 200mins and 200 texts. However i changed
to 3 in August since the deals from dialphone were just literally incredible!
- with cashback, 20 a month for 750 cross net and texts was unbelievable.
However, after a couple of months i started to notice problems. Sometimes
i would not receive texts all day and then i had to reset the phone.
The phone gradually got worse and worse, and kept doing things like
getting the external and internal screens out of sync. In the last few
weeks it kept resetting and was getting to the stage where i had to
remove the battery and reset every few days! - but the calls and network
would still work. However, today as i was typing a long text it froze,
i reset it and it would turn on and just give a white screen and would
load the PIN screen etc. I rang dialaphone who told me it was a 3 problem.
I went to the 3 shop in superdrug in Newcastle-u-Tyne and asked them
to replace it. The 1sy guy denied that it was their problem at all and
said i wasn't entitled to a repair. I asked to speak to the manager
who confirmed this, but after much pleading he let me ring dialaphone
on their phone. Dialphone confirmed that it was a 3 warranty issue and
i should send it to them. I rang 3, the idian guy answered promptly
and agredd to have it picked up by the end of the day. However, i asked
if they could pick it up from the shop as i live in student halls and
am a med student and am nearly always in lectures. The manager swore
blind that he couldn't be responsible for the phone and i would have
to have it picked up from the halls. So in short 3 as a co-ordinated
company in a joke. The guys in the shop were talking out their arses
and were utterly useless. I hope they repair it, but if i have to keep
sending it back (more than 2-3 times) i will cancel the direct debit
and take them on. This phone has been by far the most unreliable i have
ever used and ultimately if it doesn't do what it says on the tin (or
box), then i am not gonna pay for it and will take 3 head on. However,
only time will tell if they can fix it properly and what happens....
i will post again here soon. PS If any1 has cancelled their contract
early against 3, please email on haveareallygoodchat@hotmail.com. Thanks.

a bit heavy and no bluetooth. pro's: OUSTANDING display, good camera,
loads of utilities, never blocked on me. People, don't blame the phone
if you don't know how to use it. Dropped calls and so on come from the
faulty network, not from the phone. mp3 quality is very good, pc syncronisation
works flawleslly (JUST READ THE DAMN MANUAL!). i've been reading out
so called "reviews" based on nothing, like "i've had the phone for 2

My children have a phone each so we can keep in contact with them. The
phones are utterly unreliable, and both have been in twice in 5 months
for repair (losing 6 working days each time). 3G callcentre in India/Pakistan
is even worse...they cannot speak English properly, read from a script,
dont give a flying fig, and score -100 out of 10. Unfortunately legally
there is no way out the contract for 7 more months :0(. HOWEVER in month
12 both phones go flying, contract ends and we will move to any other
network with any other phone. And one final point we wont be buying
from carphone warehouse, they have great marketing and lousy support

This phone is appauling i regret purchasing it so much... Basically
when i first got this phone i swear i thought it was amazing, it had
an mp3 player, video camera and was easy enough to use, appeared to
be lovely. Then the problems began which is basically the same stuff
that every1 else on here has mentioned (freezing, settings changeing,
front screen not working, turning its self off countless times and the
video camera and every camera setting becoming unusable) Now i could
live without the video camera and camera (apparently there wasnt enough
memory to save when there obviously was). So i used it for about a month
without a camera until today, as i was writing a text it decided to
freeze...splendid so i did the usual routine of taking the battery out
etc and when it turned it back on it froze instantly...hmmm..so i tried
again many times but every time it froze, so now i have this appauling
phone that doesnt actually work, (but i still get to pay for it, wonderful!!)looks
like im going to have to send it off for repairs but i doubt that will
do anything. This phone is SO good i am going to open up another contract
- get a new -reliable- phone (probably a Nokia)and pay 2 contracts just
so i dont have to touch this worthless brick ever again in my life!
Trust me, dont touch LG dont touch 3,they're appalling.

People who say the phone sucks is only because they suck. Just because
you don't know how to follow simple steps which then leads to it not
work doesn't mean it sucks. Just because you had bad luck, doesn't mean
it sucks. Call divert, just turn it off you moron. It's called, Options
> Deactivate all, there, no more call diverting. It just keeps ringing
now. And about the crashes, probably just you. Overusing it. Pressing
through menus to quick I mean, I has to load up the stuff. Once the
stuff has been loaded once, it's faster on the next times. When something
new in, load, but then fast again. I had no problems what so ever with
this phone. Maybe people should read the manual? How to use the phone
safely? What to do and what not to do? HINTS!? It's all over the manual.....

This is by far the best phone i have ever had! to see all the negatives
make no sense to me, the ONLY problem i have encountered is twice while
having it connected to my pc it cant find the files in one of the three
directories on the phone, which simply closes the connected from the
phone end. doesnt even crash anything, takes 1 second to reconnect and
away you go.. i love the features, they could have added games but how
long would you actually play them?? ive had no problems with coverage
or receiving sms's. its never crashed or shown any signs of 'buggyness'
, they could have added a higher quality speaker for mp3 playing but
its no big issue it plays very loud and only shows signs of struggle
with HIGH bass music. overall im really impressed and love the phone,
i would recommend it to anyone.. absolutely brilliant. ignore all the
bad reviews and read the real ones, this is my summary and hope you

Well well well where do I begin? Not with the good points that's for
sure-there aren't any!!. I've had nothing but problem after problem
with this piece of rubbish-it starts off playfully freezing and turning
itself off, annoyingly when you've just come to the end of a mammoth
text. Next comes the death of some of the camera functions-excellent...I
can put up with these little problems as I can still text, make/receive
calls etc but after having my phone sent in for repairs on a monthly
basis, I know I've still got the mumbled jargon popping up from nowhere-which
also freezes the phone-random requests for security numbers and fancy
flashing lights where the disappearance of my front display sets things
off nicely, yet to come!!!. The call centre peeps over in India are
utterly useless and you're only provided with a replacement phone when
physical damage occurs apparently. Oh, and they seem ever so surprised
when you call up with your fault(s) as it's a "very reliable phone"...,
what do they know. Reading down it's good to see I'm not alone here!!
Something needs to be done about this, it's very wrong!

I am extremely annoyed with this phone. It was a great phone when I
first bought it, and loved it, but ever since I bought it, I have been
unable to use it on many occasions. I bought it at the very end of September
2004, and for a start, they charged me a month's payment of £15
after just 3 days! Since then, my phone has turned off randomly whilst
in my pocket - it cuts off numerous times during calls - always has
bad signal - and regularly switches itself off when I try to turn it
on, even though the battery is fully charged. This morning I turned
my phone on and it produced a bright glow, but no symbols appeared.
I closed the lid, and the light never turned off! I tried charging it,
but no message came up saying it was charging either! I have the phone
beside me now, taken the battery and sim card out, blown the inside
to remove dust, put everything back correctly and now it won't even
turn on! Just a black screen! Why does this phone keep going wrong?
The annoying thing is I changed from a good old pay as go on another
phone for no reason (just saw this cheap deal in The Link) and kept
my original number and now I have no phone to ring home with! I am at
university, and can't contact my parents when I need to be in contact
with them urgently! I'm fed up! Get it sorted.

I got this phone, on contract - as I am a student and I kept on going
over my free minutes on my £30 a month O2 contract - 3 seemed to be
an ideal choice! Excellent coverage they say, with a good and reliable
phone... hmmm. What I can say about the coverage is, sure, it's not
great at all but the technology is in it's infancy, and with Vodafone
etc. all bringing out their own 3G mobiles - I can only expect the network
coverage to improve over the next year or two. My main quibble with
this phone is the software and reliability. It has crashed on me several
times, and the last time it crashed (while trying to send a text message
to several receipiants) I took the battery out, to which the phone restarted
with almost all of it's settings changed - the time, colour scheme and
menu listings and icons were all out. Gave it a reset, took the sim
out and back in to which it prompted me to enter my security code. After
discovering that it had changed the security code from what I put in
myself to something TOTALLY different I took the battery and sim out
a few times until I was able to access the phone without the need to
enter a security code. The fun and games don't stop there, the flash
and zoom on the camera no longer work, I scroll through the arc menu
on it to find the icon for messages helpfully has "Multimedia" next
to it and all the menu names have changed (eg. To write a text message
I have to select "multimedia" and then "Zoom" and then "Speed Dials")
the predictive text is botched and it likes to hang when putting in
a contact, making new calls etc... Now I have to take it to a specific
carphone warehouse in my city to get the software upgraded. That's going
to take 4 hours and is certainly a huge inconvenience for me. bah, many
friends of mine have had different problems as well with it, whereas
others have said it works absolutelty fine. All the features are ace,
but I would have sacrificed all the extra features for it to be reliable.

I have nothing against the phone. However, The 3G network is absolute
rubbish. I have never witnessed such incompetence from a network provider.
Horrendous customer service in India, poor managment, bad reception
(only works when it re-routes to 3, which is actually the O2 network).
I can go on slagging 3G off for days, but I will stop now as I'm on
the verge of smashing my laptop to pieces out of frustration with 3G.
I would be happy to hear from anyone planning to approach Watchdog,
as I know there will be thousands of users with similar issues. All
I can say is don't be fooled by their promo offers, cheap calls etc.
They have o% customer retention after 12 mths which speaks for itself.
Anyone who has extended their contract must be INSANE and probably enjoys
dealing with a bunch on monkeys. DO NOT BUY ANY PHONE ON A 3G NETWORK,
IT'S MORE AGGRO THAN IT'S WORTH.

The main point is the size, it's about the same size and weight as the
Samsung V200. Another point is the phone doesn't come with any standard
pre-loaded games which doesn't accomodate for people like me who love
games but hate the N-Gage. If you want to play games you have to download
them from 3's website (which is acsessable from the LGu120 at no extra
charge. Games cost money though). All round I'd say this is a great
phone for personal and business use alike. Smooth video-recorder and
crisp camera (although the flash isn't very bright). Recomended.

The handset is fine, if it would work on the bloody network!!! I strongly
advise NOT to get a pay monthly contract phone on a 3G network. Why?
Because they're terrible!! They have a incompetent call centre in India
for all customer services enquiries who read from a text screen and
have hearing problems. They don't even provide replacement phones when
you send it in for repairs when it stops working and has never been
fropped/damaged. Believe me it will come to a halt... When you do send
it back, you'll need to do this 3 times to replace the handset, and
for some stupid reason every time they send the handset back to you
they write a letter stating that it's been successfully repaired and
fixed. If it's been repaired & fixed why doesn't it work then?!?!?!?
3G probably also have an imcompetent repairs team who have not got a
clue as to what they're doing. You might as well send it off to a bunch
of monkeys in a zoo to fix it. The phone hasn't been working for 5 weeks
now, so their only solution is to send me a new sim card, which still
does not work!! This has been the most stressfull and frustrating experience
I have ever come accross with a network provider. I will be paying the
remainder of contract off & cancelling, so I can forget about this experience
and never have to liaise with a 3G person again. 3G IS FOR MUGS!!!

out that the 3G was soooo terrible I tried to return it, but my 14 day
period had just expired!! A few months later I damaged my phone and
replaced it through my insurance with the LG U8120. One thing I need
to point out here before I go any further, what is the point in offering
750 or 500 free mins if you cannot make a call even though your signal
is showing full strength. Even on the rare occassions you can make a
call it keeps cutting you off and that includes incoming calls!!!! Text
messages go astray inward as well as out and sometimes take a day to
get to their intended destination!!! The phone I have no probs with
as it is better in size compared to the original bricks that were produced.
It has many nice features but I am in the process of going back to my
old clamshell samsung on the old technology even though I have many
months to run on my 3G contract! It is too early to join this system
and it needs to sort out the probs I have mentioned. It is a shame as

OK, Well it's a phone. I guess that would be the reason you bought it
and not the frills and bells that most exhibit these days. In that respect
you are lucky as it worked extremely well as a phone and also the frill
there were also worked fine. I thought a little more "substance" in
the battery cover would not have been remiss since it is VERY THIN.
Generaly the phone has a "quality" feel about it but not as much as
the heavier weights like the latest Sony phones. The menue system is
very easy to use. In fact if you don't like the "Arc method" which is
default you can change it to a "list" or "Icon". The Icon style gives
some very nice moving graphics but otherwise for quick access the alternative
"list" style is the best. These are all accessed under "Settings" "Screen"
then "menu style". In each case there are number pad shortcuts. Another
dissadvantage is the lack of memeory with the 32M which I thought would
have been ample. It depends how your mp3's have been recorded. If they
have been recorded with 128bit then they are likely to be large files
and preferably need remastering to limit their size else you simply
are only going to get about 6 average length songs on it. Just forget
the collection of Beethoven Symphonies. It wasn't built for them. the
aerial is begining to look a bit dated now but what did suprise me was
network coverage. Now it could be that "3" is really strong everywhere.
- Nope. Don't think so. BUT the phone reception was very good even better
than Vodaphone which I never thought I would ever be able to say. Certainly
with 500 any network anytime minutes and 100 free texts offer it represents
excellent value for money. You may have to get a spare battery bt hey,
bearing all in mind it is a small price to pay. Try http://www.firstphoneshop.co.uk/lg-phone-accessories/lg-u8120.shtml
I found their site which looks interesting but I have NOT tried it.
Just thought I would mention it as it shows the batteries and phone

Disclaimer: The rating is for the phone on the 3 network (which is the
only route by which it can currently be purchased). The phone itself
is great - not too big, acceptable battery life, beautiful screen and
impressive camera. BUT the 3 network is absolutely appalling - poor
reception, lost texts, no voicemail and terrible customer service. I
didn't realise this until after the fourteen days was up, but I'm having
to buy a new phone on a 2G network, despite having ten months to run
on the 3 contract, because I can't rely on their network. Trust me -
buy the variant on Orange when it comes out if you want a good 3G phone.

I give the phone 4 stars, my reason for this is it doesnt have bluetooth
built in. But you can buy a bluetooth adaptor for it so that you can
use handsfree kits in your car. The screen on this phone is amazing,
its so bright and so clear, one downsidde to it is it eats the battery,
but you cant have it both ways. Pesonally its not a problem for me to
stick it on charge, i'd rather have a clearer screen. The menus are
excellent, even though I have only had a Nokia previously, the address
book lets you store names, numbers, address', email etc. It works really
well with Outlook for syncronising calendar, notes, contacts and to
do lists. The camera and video functions on it are really good (including
a light to light up dark pictures), gives good quality pictures, and
videos int eh .3GP format playable from a pc with quicktime. Allows
you to have MP3's as ringtones, and has a good amount of built in storage
for holding all your videos/pictures. As for linking it up with the
pc, I found this a breeze, installed the software, plugged in teh phone
and I was away. You can sync up contacts, send/receive text messages
and upload and download pictures within a few clicks. One bad point
to the software I found was that when sending text messages you had
to enter the number manually and couldnt fillit in from the phones address
book. Also you cant charge and use the PC cable at teh same time, a
better solution might have been to charge it from the usb power, because
the power socket is also the data link socket. Its a good sturdy feeling
phone, the outer case is silver plastic, with a brushed metal front.
Inside the keys are laid out well and are a decent size to use properly.

Great phone, although not having Bluetooth is a little strange for any
new cutting edge phone. It is great in all other respects, and the clamshell
feature is good to prevent mis-dialing when forgetting to lock the keypad,
and protecting the screen. It was very easy to get used to navigating,
as I had been a Nokia user before. It is easier and more intuitive than
the Nokia's I have had.

thin and I put my "FINGER" thr it on day one, there's no battery life,
non de nada. Worst of all is the usless network, If your moving ie walking
itr drops out, don't try to use it in a car no chance, oh and that usful
map thingy well there's no coverage out in the sticks so its no use
either. phones 4 U U suck! I wish I'd never bought it.If some one can

This is an exceptional phone with at least two severe flaws. I got it
on Three (1/2 price line rental for a year etc, etc) and sent it back
within 24 hours. DONT BE TEMPTED. Plus points: V nice menus, easy to
use, great media player and recorder, photos and video play back g.
quality. mp3 ringtones are always good, great PC conectivity. negatives:
only avaliable on the 3G Three notwork (yes notwork, not network), which,
to be quite frank is very poor indeed. Little signal in Brighton (despite
3G website saying it was 100%). When reverting to 2g network there was
signal loss for at least 60 seconds and it lost 3g every 5 mins. Not
exactly the fault of the handset, but, if the network is bad- whats
the point? battery life on the phone is *really* awful. you will be
lucky to get 15 hours. CAN I BE ARSED TO RECHARGE MY PHONE EVERY DAY?
NO I CANNOT.

got this phone like for 2 months so far and this is the summary of its
performance. a week ago, the video camera software screwed up (menu
bar was missin som icons and indicates i hav insufficient memory even
though i had like 20megs left) i duno how this occurred, it was jus
a normal mornin wen i switched my phone to vid cam and it was like that.
okai like that wasnt enough, 5 days later, i was typin a sms and half
way through it, the phone cut dead. i tried to turn it back on, but
it wouldnt. im sure my battery was full cos i recharged it all day b4
i unplugged it to sms som1. overall i loved my phone but LG technology
just cant seem to make somthin without wreckages in their coding or
design. (side story - bought a VCR and the machinery was noisier than
the actual video that was playin. had this killing screech.) but worst
of all, i tried to take my phone to repairs back to the 3G i purhcased
it from, this is wot they said. "I'm sorry, i cannot do anything about
it because we only deal with defects within 2 weeks of purchase, you've
got to go to the manufacturer to repair it." - i was stoned, i mean
i cant even reach that repair place they were talkin about cos its like
an hour drive from me; and by the way, within 2 weeks?!! like wot could
happen to a phone within the 2weeks? this is just garbage. but anyway
i dunno if every phone is like that, but i would recommend this phone
if it wasnt for these faults, it does have some nice functions at an
affordable price. i would giv this phone a 5 if it didnt screw up. -_-
