LG U300 Review
Phone rating:
Review: September 2006.
The LG U300 is a 3G clamshell phone that's one of the lightest 3G phones available.
It's quite funky looking, available in a choice of orange or chameleon, but
inside it's a quite ordinary and bland-looking phone with a keypad that's frankly
not very nice to use.
The U300 has a similar spec to LG's other 3G phones - a rotating 1.3 megapixel
camera, with video calling and a good quality main screen. The external display
shows the date and time, battery life, signal strength and caller ID when you
receive a call. The U300 has an excellent music player with full support for
the supplied stereo Bluetooth headset. A 128 Mbyte memory card is supplied,
so music storage is adequate, and the music player is better than average. Battery
life is average for a 3G phone and it can be charged via a USB cable. Overall
it's a good phone that offers good value for money, but is unremarkable and
suffers from an unergonomic keypad. Oh, and it will scratch if you don't take
good care of it!
Features of the LG U300 include:
- 3G video calling
- 1.3 megapixel camera with 2x digital zoom
- Video camera (MPEG4 format)
- Internal display: TFT, 262,000 colours, 176 x 220 pixels
- External display: STN, monochrome, 96 x 64 pixels
- Music player (MP3, AAC, Enhanced AAC+, AMR and WMA formats)
- 64-voice polyphonic MP3 & AAC ringtones
- Messaging: SMS, EMS, MMS, Email, MSN Messenger
- Java games
- Photo Caller ID
- WAP 2.0
- Memory: 8 Mbytes plus 128 Mbyte MicroSD memory card
- Connectivity: Bluetooth, USB
- Triband plus 3G
- Size: 96 x 50 x 22
- Weight: 93g
- Talktime: 135 minutes
- Battery standby: 220 hours

I've had quite a few mobiles but I've had this one for years! The bottom
line is, is that it's a brilliant, straight forward phone and there's
not alot that can go wrong with it! Perhaps the camera isn't as good
as it might be on other handsets and the WAP browser isn't amzingly
fast but it's good enough me.

despite the awkward charger socket on the side when making calls on
charge, the short battery life (charge and durability) and the bloody
annoying 'battery low' warning screen that prevents you doing anything
for 10 seconds when you neeeeed to send that last text before the BATTERY
RUNS OUT! this phone has served me well for 3 years almost, I have swapped
the battery once and have just ordered another one, (its worst trait)
but I picked it up for 30 quid expecting a terrible camera, v. little
functions, memory etc. to my suprise it had EVERYTHING that a phone
needs!! internet that streams utube vids well, 1.3mp cam (not bad 3
years ago) 128mb memory card and adaptor, pc connection kit (plug into
ur pc to go straight on without a dongle) video recorder, (not great
quality, works tho) voice recorder, bluetooth, mp3 player and headphones,
usefull and well set out oganiser etc. only thing it dont do is play
mp3 through the bluetooth headset! the phone itself is also very durable,
unlike its battery :-/ best phone ive owned tho and ive had more expensive
sonys and nokias that were top range at time....

do love this phone. obviously not as much as my first phone, but it's

THIS PHONE IS RUBBISH. The screen cracks SO easily! I mean all i did
was attack it with scissors and there it went. It's junk. Not for only
that reason. A) The buttons are SO loud, so if your a student, this
phone is awwful for trying to be sly. B) The camera is 1.3 megapixels.
And to be perfectly honest, that is rubbish. C) The charge is useless.
Plus the noise it makes when you plug it in is terrible. AND it falls
out way too easily. And just in general. This phone is TERRIBLE. :)

Ive had the u300 for 6 months. Ive had nokia phones and sony and this
is a lot better than them. Battery charges in half hr. The only prob
is the charger plugs into the side so unless ur left handed its hard
to use when on charge. Camera light is good and doubles as a torch.
Only prob is the battery runs down very fast. If i dont use it it last
about a week but only last about half an hr when using wap. No scratches
yet but paint starting to come off the direction key. It works a lot
better on wap if u download opera mini

This phone is actually amazing - other reviewers here are so critical!!!
Keypad is good, camera is decent, music player and SD card awesome and
easy to use with PC, phone has never been unresponsive, battery life
is good - what more could you ask for £30!!! Having had so many breakable
EXPENSIVE phones with exactly the same functions camera etc. this is
a bargain. Also I am constantly dropping and misplacing phones and this
one has been a LOT better for not scratching or being damaged in any
way than most I've seen. The orange shell is very cool - people who
can't accept having a bright orange relatively large (for its light
weight) phone should not buy/ have bought it.

Ok, first thing is that the colour (pukey orange on 3) is u*g*l*y there
is no getting away from it. This is an embarassing phone. Why can't
3 offer it in the grey shown on the box? The main reason I got this
phone is to try out the 3 network. But let me stick to the phone itself...
It's big, for a clamshell design. It's totally plastic. The keypad once
you get used to it is not too bad but as others have said, quite ugly
too - saving grace being the neutral silvery tone. The screen is ok.
Clear and bright. Menu system is intuative enough (once you get rid
of the 3 homescreen adverts). If you are looking for the volume controls
(rings tones, message alert tones etc) they are all in the Profiles
menu. I can't comment on the battery yet. The outside small screen shows
the time but when the phone is open i's et to a 3 logo which you can't
get rid of, so you become a walking advert for 3. I've used LG phones
before and find the menu system strange but somehow ok when you get
used to them. Perhaps it's just me getting used to them again. Screen
is good. Camera is just ok, no flash. Haven't tried the rather basic-looking
mp3 player yet. Style factor = 0 Functionality = 3 Overall Value = 2
(there is NO WAY you will want to be seen with this phone in public)

I have an LG phone and im on this site checking out phones.I can first
of all tell you that all my friends hate all of LG's phones here are
some reasons: 1. they look so fugly 2. the inside is fugly and disfunctionall
3. they dont last ( i fell and cracked up my screen - never happened
when i had a sony ericson) 4. the 3g is really laggy 5. when you call
you get mega latency even if youre sanding next to the person (when
i say mega i mean like 2-3 seconds of waiting - my experience with the
phone company 3, dunno if that has anything to do with the phone though)
6. aLL OTHER PHONES BEAT IT BIG TIME! check in to getting a Sony Ericsson,
they are sooo good, fun and they usually have flash (for the camera
fyi) and all of that. LG SUCKS. their motto - ''chi wao lao ping ping

Yes. The phones are really nice, but LG needs to improve support for
their handsets in general. If the headphones, battery (which is REALLY
weak for this model) or other accessories gets lost/dead, it's virtually
impossible to track down new parts. The phones also has functions that
are not described in the manual. For example: you can set a number of
countdowns to/from a specific day, of which one of those can be displayed
on the main screen. This works for several LG phone models (U81XX, U8360,
etc.)

ive had mine for about 5 months NO scratches yet i put in my pocket
with keys etc, great little phone, pictures and videos are much sharper
and clear, only fault i could find was that battery didnt last as long
as my LG U8138, i still use both phones, else there are no other problems.

objects!! Bog standard phone, nice looking, nice to use and its features

It's good but frankly it's a step back from my old U880. Keypad is worse,
the little screen on the front isn't in colour, and you can't control
the songs from the front. It's fine otherwise and probably a good phone
if you haven't seen the U880 or U890.

Really is a very nice phone for the price. Camera quality i find is
excellent, the screen is clear and crisp, plays mp3's very good too.
Battery performance varies between ok and poor, but its not too bad,
ive used worse phones in terms of battery life. Definatley worth it
(in silver not the orange colour, why they made it in orange i do not
know?)

The phone its self is ok but the bluetooth cable thing sucks. What a
retro step. I had a hands free ear piece with my last phone and this
sucks! I hope I can get an ear peice for this otherwise i'm going to
put my sim card in my old phone. You people who love it obviously had
rubbish phones before this one...i didnt!

Considering most people think it's a good phone I'm going to ignore
the ones saying it isn't because those people are probably just technology
challenged. I think it's an AWESOME phone.

Thanks to the clamshell design the phone appears a lot smaller than
it actually is, which is a bonus! It has bluetooth (but no infra-red),
comes with a memory card. It's very easy to use, although texting can
be a little fiddly at times. Battery life is poor, but charging times
quicker than other phones I've had. Good sound quality. Still camera
quality average. Video camera quality good. Overall, a fairly decent
phone. Not the best, but good for the price, and better than other past
LG efforts. Looks pretty decent as well.
