LG BP250 review

 Review: June 2015

Rating: 3 stars

In a nutshell: If you want a Blu-Ray player that plays disks and ... well, nothing else really, then the LG BP250 is a good, cheap choice. It has no 3D capability, but will upscale DVDs to Full 1080p HD. For the price, you really can't go wrong.

Best buy: LG BP250 from Laptops Direct (£52.97)

Design & looks

The LG BP250 is an attractive Blu-Ray player with a honeycomb-effect black finish. It doesn't look as cheap as it is, and will complement a modern TV set-up nicely. It's very compact, measuring just 27cm wide.

Playback

The BP250 Blu-Ray player can play 2D Blu-Ray disks, including BD-R/-RE, as well as Region 2 DVDs, including DVD+-RW/+-R. It can also play CDs, including CD-R and CD-RW. When playing DVDs, the player can upscale to full 1080p HD.

Connectivity

Connectivity is basic, but considering that there's no Smart TV, everything you need is here. A HDMI port connects to a HD-Ready TV, and there's also a USB connector. This lets you access music, photos or videos from a USB drive or device.

Conclusion - all the essentials for hardly any money

Blu-Ray players don't really get any cheaper than this! For around £50 you get a player that supports 2D Blu-Ray and DVD, and if that's all you need, there's no point in paying more.

Having purchased LG BP 250 DVD player from curry's on line found it was easy to set up with my new LG 4k television. The picture and sound quality was very pleasing these are the good points. The bad point of my player is an annoying low vibrating sound when viewing DVD. Contacted curry's product support and was told I was just out of date for a replacement. I would not recommend this product.

Plays everything apart from game of thrones season 3.
Good player poor support.

LG seemingly not interested in sorting the problem.

Buy cheap buy twice rings true.

I'm old enough to remember when TV's had only one channel messing with horizontal and verical holds and the placing of the aerial was all I had to do to make the tele work. Then everything changed and things were connected to the television, Set top boxes/recorders/ computers/dvd players etc and as soon as that happened I would shout for my son to connect things up for me. Now Im living in Spain he is in England. I had a TDT box/combined DVD player and a SKY box connected and was loaned a whole series of the Game of Thrones in BluRay and they wouldnt play on the DVD player I had to do something. This is where the BP250 comes in, I have never connected anything up EVER But this was so easy and I even learnt about a HDMI splitter!!!!! Back to the BP 250 I just followed the instuctions and it worked, I have HD tele and the reproduction was as good if not better and the BP250 plays my old DVDs as well, absolutely brilliant, for someone who wants just a basic player it is a first rate bit of kit. Thank you LG for producing this and at what a price 55, not only a great product but gave an old fart the courage to have a go himself.
