LG 60PM670T review

 Review: December 2012

Rating: 4 stars

In a nutshell: This 60 inch plasma TV gives you an extraordinarily large screen, although picture quality isn't perfect, especially in 3D. Connectivity is good, apart from the lack of built-in Wi-Fi, and the Smart TV feature is outstanding.

The LG 60PM670T is the 60 inch version of the 50PM670T, and you should read our detailed LG 50PM670T review for a full assessment.

In summary, this is a good looking TV that is particularly impressive in its 60 inch incarnation. You'll certainly need a large room to watch it in though, especially if you plan to make use of the 3D functionality.

Image quality isn't perfect, as the contrast ratio isn't as good as plasma displays from other manufacturers, and the screen tends to be quite reflective too. More positively, the screen enjoys ultrawide viewing angles and a very fast response time. Colour reproduction is faithful too, thanks to its THX certification. Image retention is not a problem on this screen, and it's relatively energy efficient for a plasma too.

3D performance can sometimes be marred by crosstalk effects which lead to ghosting, and also sometimes by flickering of the active 3D glasses. Also be aware that no 3D glasses are included with the TV, and these can be quite expensive to buy.

Audio quality we found to be average. On the other hand, Smart TV functionality is probably the best we've seen on any range of TVs in 2012. The TV is "Wi-Fi ready", which means that out of the box it has no Wi-Fi, but you can purchase an optional Wi-Fi dongle. Apart from that one missing item, all connectivity options are catered for.

A Freeview HD tuner is included, but not Freesat.

This TV certainly delivers a lot of screen real estate for your money, but the picture quality isn't as good as we'd hoped for a plasma. 3D performance in particular isn't perfect, and buying 3D glasses will push the price up. Positives include the outstanding Smart TV functionality, the "B" energy efficiency rating and the sheer value for money.
