LG 55UJ701V review
Review: August 2017 | ||
![]() Rating: In a nutshell: The LG 55UJ701V offers compelling value for money. A 55" HDR TV with premium looks for around £850 has to be worth considering, and the UJ701V is well featured too, with Freeview Play, Freesat compatibility and comprehensive Smart TV, including Netflix and Amazon. Viewing angles are particularly wide, making this a good choice for a family TV. |
LG UJ701V vs SJ810V
You won't spot many differences between the LG UJ701V and its "Super UHD" cousin, the SJ810V. The design is almost identical, the features very similar and the end result quite close. Read our in-depth LG SJ810V review to find out more about the SJ810.
The UJ701V lacks the nano cell technology of the Super UHD range, and you might notice that colours are slightly less vivid as a result. It also misses out on Dolby Vision certification, but we won't lose any sleep over that as the TV meets the much more important HDR10 and HLG standards for High Dynamic Range.
There's one important difference that you're bound to see, however. The price. The 55UJ701 costs around £300 less than the 55SJ810, and for many people that will be the deciding factor.
At this price point you might also consider the excellent Samsung UE55MU6400.

What catch-up player apps are pre-installed or otherwise install-able via the TV?

I've had a bad experience with vague promises about what's available
in the past, only to find I had no comeback after purchase. The
players I want include the STV player (Scottish TV), which is
supported on Samsung TVs. I also require iPlayer, All4, ITV player and
demand 5. The availability of Freeview Play confuses things because it
includes catch-up on all Freeview channels but this does not provide
anything like the functionality of the stand-alone catch-up player
apps.
