LG 49UH850V review
Review: May 2016 | ||
![]() Last updated September 2016 Rating: In a nutshell: The LG 49UH850V is a superb 4K TV with HDR capability, at a reasonable price. It's beautifully styled, with a smart silver and white finish. The TV uses a fast IPS display with bright colours and wide viewing angles. It's 3D compatible, and has an excellent 2.2 speaker audio system. LG's latest WebOS 3.0 Smart TV system includes apps for the BBC iPlayer, Demand 5, Netflix 4K and Amazon Instant Video. Connectivity is excellent, and includes Freeview HD and Freesat HD tuners. It's a great package! |
Review
The LG 49UH850V is the 49-inch version of the 55-inch LG UH850V UHD HDR TV we reviewed earlier. The price of the TV has fallen very significantly since its release in March 2016, and it's now a very good value product. Watch out for further cuts as Black Friday approaches!

It has a half-baked implementation that does not quite work.

The 3d conversion from 2d works well, without the layered diorama
effect, if a hard drive is connected to a USB port, and is loaded with
video files, they display as picture thumbnails, also, when playing a
file video there is a navigation facility that can be shown at the
bottom of the screen, which enables almost everything that a
dvd/blu-ray player would provide except for frame advance, and A-B
replay, these features make this set a good buy.

Let me get this out of the way first: I bought this tv last week new
this week £100 off, I thought I'd hot it on a lower price too
😭
Ok here goes my review.
The tv
looks beautiful, would have preferred black bezel.
The smart
features are great, magic remote is great, speak to the controller and
the tv will do things...no more typing lol.
The standard picture
is rubbish tbh...even 720p picture looks grainy... probably due to
size of the screen.
I bought this tv for gaming mostly, and the
quality is beautiful, though when your sat in dark and the game is
loading (black ops 3) you can see the screen bleed as it is an edge
lit tv...if you have a lamp on it doesn't show as much, but you can
also adjust each setting in the hdmi.
Sound I think is very
good.
The hdr looks good on my games adding deeper richer
colours.
The 3d is ok but I've not tried a genuine 3d film only
YouTube vids.
The blacks aren't very black more of a darker
grey.
Any questions?

Do you find this fast for gaming, as it is an IPS screen?

I have the non hdr version of this TV, and i'd imagine the response
time is the same. Fine for single player games, but for cod online it
is no good. The delay is too bad and you will lose a lot of one on
ones. Better off with a monitor for gaming.

Why does the spec say back lit yet you claim it is edge lit? Who is
wrong? I ask because we have been offered one at a very good price but
need to know whether LG specifications are misleading.

Brill tv back-lit is so much better than edge lit in my opinion,
colours are much better, no light bleed in the corners, as u get with
edge lit sets, build quality is, great, would Def recommend this
set.

This is a setting issue. Try TRUMOTION OFF.
