Indesit CAA55 review
|Review: October 2015|
In a nutshell: The Indesit CAA55 is a "no frills" fridge-freezer that's cheap to buy and cheap to run. It's very compact, but that means it has limited storage space. It's not frost-free, so it will need to be manually defrosted. It's also quite a noisy appliance, and isn't one that we can strongly recommend.
Today's best buy: Indesit CAA 55 White from Next Domestic Appliances (£234.00)
Design & features
The Indesit CAA55 is one of the cheapest fridge-freezers you can buy, and is very similar to the Hotpoint RFAA52P, which sells for about the same price. Like the Hotpoint, the Indesit has a real budget look and feel to it.
The CAA55 does have the advantage of being less deep than many other fridge-freezers, so it's worth considering if space is limited. The recessed door handles are nice and big, but the door needs quite a tug to pull it open. Inside, the available space is quite limited, making the CAA55 better suited to a single person or a couple than a family.
The freezer has 4 compartments, and comes with 2 ice trays. The fridge has a split salad drawer that's quite convenient, and 2 glass shelves that are fully adjustable. The fridge door storage space is quite narrow.
One of the major drawbacks to this model is that it's not frost-free. That means that it'll need regular defrosting to remove ice. In this age, nearly all fridge-freezers have automatic defrosting, so unless your budget is rock bottom, we'd recommend that you consider a better alternative.
Efficiency, noise & reliability
The Indesit is rated A+ for energy efficiency, and uses less than most rival appliances because of its small storage capacity. So as well as being very cheap to buy, it's also very cheap to run. It's not a particularly quiet fridge-freezer however, and the background hum from the compressor can be quite loud.
Indesit doesn't have the strongest reputation for reliability, and since this is one of the cheapest fridge-freezers available, you can't expect it to be the most durable.
Conclusion - not a bad choice if money is very tight
The Indesit CAA55 sells for close to the £200 mark, and there really aren't many alternatives at such a low price point. There's not much difference between this and the Hotpoint RFAA52P, so it would be wise to shop around for the best deal on either.
