Humax DTR-T1010 review

 Review: January 2013

Rating: 5 stars

In a nutshell: Humax's YouView box gets an upgrade with a premium silver finish and up to 2TB of recording space.

Review

The Humax DTR-T1010 is an upgraded version of the Humax DTR-T1000 YouView HD digital TV recorder. It seems as if Humax are reading S21's mind, because we recently awarded the T1000 five stars and commented that the only way it could be improved would be to increase the disk space from 500GB to 1,000GB, which is exactly what Humax has done. This is enough to record 600 hours of standard definition content and 250 hours of HD programmes.

In addition, they've given it a premium silver finish, and all for just £50 more than the T1000. Please note, however, that this box will NOT work with a Wi-Fi dongle.

The best Freeview box just got better!

Update (5 March 2014): A 2TB version of the DTR-T1010 has now been released.

Can I watch and control this unit from another room?

I currently use the Sky magic eye cable to watch and control the sky box from another room.

I have just bought this and am delighted with it so far...except its internet connectivity. I was advised to get a humax dongle and can't get it to work; please explain why it is unsuitable.

Bad machine - needs an internet connection to work, which essentially means letting the advertisers know exactly what you are watching and when. Bad privacy issue.
Why couldn't they just make this box in such a way that it worked as a stand-alone Freeview receiver and recorder only, without the necessity of an internet connection to make it work at all?

I have the T1010 Youview box which compared to other boxes on the market works very well, when anything new comes to Market be it a New Windows software, SKY box or other providers there are always some issues, but this box has very little problems, the on demand catch up works well, roll back the guide works 7 days roll back on some channels, free HD services from BBC, ITV Channel 4 with more to come in time.

Good Search facility and one of the best TV guides on the market. Why pay big subscriptions for satellite services or cable services, save your money you can pause rewind, record and catch up TV all in one box, one fee is all you pay and you can also record radio stations.

WHY WASTE MONEY ON SUBSCRIPTIONS THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE TIME TO WATCH, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO FOR YOUVIEW AND SET YOUR ROOF TOP AERIAL FREE, WITH GOOD TV GUIDE, GOOD CATCH UP / ON DEMAND, RANGE OF HD CHANNELS ALL IN ONE BOX WITHOUT A MONTHLY FEE.

4 STARS AS SOMETIMES ON CHANNEL 5 IT MISSES 30 SECONDS OF RECORDING AT START BUT I HAVE BEEN ASSURED THIS ISSUE IS BEING LOOKED INTO.
