Bosch WAE28377GB review
|Review: March 2016|
In a nutshell: The Bosch WAE28377GB washing machine in White is a good entry-level model in the Bosch range, retailing for around £350. It's a basic machine, with a modest range of features, smaller-than-average wash capacity, and is a little noisier than we'd ideally like. At the same time, it's very simple to use, and seems to be a well-built, reliable machine.
Today's best buy: Bosch WAE28377GB from Buywise Domestics (£402.49)
The WAE28377GB is an entry-level Bosch washing machine from the German manufacturer. You can tell immediately from its no-frills style, basic control panel and tiny LED display that this is a paired-down washer with just the essential functions. Still, it's a solidly-built appliance, and with less on offer, there's less to go wrong.
The control panel is particularly simple, with a rotary dial for choosing the main programme, plus touch control buttons to start and pause the programme, to change the spin speed, and to select options such as Reduced Ironing, Aqua Plus, EcoPerfect and SpeedPerfect. With fewer options, comes greater ease of use.
The EcoPerfect option uses less water and electricity, whereas the SpeedPerfect uses more, but speeds up the wash. Since a full cotton cycle already takes three-and-a-half hours, we'd opt for SpeedPerfect every time. We'd also recommend the Aqua Plus option, which uses more water, but gets better rinse results.
Washing and performance
The drum size of the WAE28377GB is a modest 55 litres, making this a relatively compact machine, but it does limit the load to 7kg and may reduce the effectiveness of the wash when loaded fully.
We've already commented on the long wash cycle times and our preference for the SpeedPerfect and Aqua Plus options. The machine is rated A+++ for energy efficiency, although selecting SpeedPerfect and Aqua Plus will make it less efficient. Here at S21, we prefer to get the job done well, and in a reasonably short time. Call us old-fashioned, if you like.
In an emergency, you can use the Super Quick 15 minute programme to give your clothes a quick freshen up.
This model isn't particularly quiet, which isn't surprising for an entry-level machine, but it's far from being the noisiest machine in the budget sector.
Most budget washing machines aren't built to last, but this Bosch seems to be better made than most. As we've already mentioned, the fewer features, the less there is to go wrong.
Conclusion - a good entry-level machine
Bosch has a good name in washing machines, and is one of the most popular brands in the UK. This model is right at the bottom of the range, but it's still a good option if you want a basic machine that doesn't cost too much.
For the price, you get a solid product with all the essentials covered. It's very easy to use, gets good results and isn't too noisy in use. Bosch's Series 6 WAQ range are the next step up, and are more efficient, quieter, come with a longer warranty and have more features. The Bosch WAQ283S1GB freestanding washing machine is a particularly good option, and a favourite here at S21.
