Bosch KAN58A45G review

 Review: October 2015

Rating: 4 stars

In a nutshell: The Bosch KAN58A45G American-style fridge-freezer is a stunning designer appliance, clad in stainless steel and with a fully-plumbed ice and chilled water dispenser. It's fully frost-free and provides massive amounts of chilled and frozen storage capacity. It's well worth its price, and our only issues are its relatively high electricity consumption and noise levels.

Design & features

If you're looking for an American-style fridge-freezer that will add a touch of glamour to your kitchen, then the Bosch KAN58A45G should be high on your list. It's an extra wide and deep appliance that provides a cavernous 510 litres of total storage capacity, with the added benefit of a fully-plumbed dispenser for chilled water and ice.

Built like a tank, and finished in super-smooth and fingerprint-resistant matte stainless steel, the KAN58A45G looks and feels amazing. It's an appliance that's clearly been built to last, and it exudes quality.

The freezer section provides a very large 155 litres of storage, as well as housing the dispenser unit. This can supply chilled water, crushed ice or ice cubes, and includes a water filter. There's a handy child lock on the dispenser, which also houses an LED control display. There's even an internal light inside the freezer.

Inside the fridge, you'll find an enormous 346 litres of storage, which is nearly double the amount on offer from many standard-sized fridge-freezers. The storage space is flexible and includes a variety of shelves, drawers and other compartments for storing meat, dairy, vegetables, bottles and eggs. The fridge is brightly lit, and a MultiAirflow system ensures good circulation of air around the fridge and helps to keep it frost-free.

Efficiency, noise & reliability

Although it has an A+ energy efficiency rating, due to its huge size the KAN58A45G uses about 50% more electricity than a standard-sized model. It will cost you around £25 a year to run, which is of course a small amount compared with the purchase price.

This isn't the quietest fridge-freezer, and the icemaker in particular can generate a bit of noise when it gets to work.

Bosch has a very good reputation for reliability, and the very solid build of this high-end model indicates a long life expectancy.

Conclusion - a real stunner

This American-style fridge freezer is one of the nicest we've reviewed. It's hard not to be impressed by its beautiful looks and wealth of useful features. The storage capacity is substantial, and the fully-plumbed ice and water dispenser is a real asset. The build quality is impeccable, and the price seems very fair for an appliance of this calibre.
