Beko WM74145W review
Review: March 2016 | ||
![]() Rating: In a nutshell: Beko's WM74145W is a compact and inexpensive washing machine that includes a few extra features compared with the company's most basic models. We like its slim, compact size, smart looks, A+++ energy rating, plus the good range of washing programmes and the large LED display panel. However, the machine has a basic feel to its build, has a tendency to vibrate when spinning, and is generally quite noisy when in use. |
Design
The Beko WM74145W washing machine has plain, unassuming styling, but it's certainly not an ugly duckling, especially with the large digital display to bring it up to date.
It has a compact design with a depth of 50cm, so it can fit under a worktop with ease. It feels very much like a budget appliance however, and being light in weight it doesn't have the stability of a larger machine, and can rattle a bit when in use.
The control panel is very simple to use, with a rotary dial to select the main programme. There are buttons to start and stop the machine, set a time delay, and adjust the spin speed. An LED display shows the time remaining till the end of the wash as well as any time delay.
Washing and performance
Because of its compact size, the WM74145W has a small 50 litre drum. This limits the amount of laundry you can fit in a wash, making the machine better suited to a single person or a couple than a family. The small drum size and slightly flimsy construction also make it a very noisy appliance.
It does achieve an A+++ energy rating however, making it 30% more efficient than Beko's cheapest washing machines. A full high temperature cotton wash takes three-and-a-half hours. The Xpress Super Short Programme can wash a small load of lightly soiled clothes in just 14 minutes.
The machine has 15 basic wash programmes, including a Baby & Toddler programme for sensitive skin, a low-temperature 30° wash, Pre-Wash, and Rinse-only and Spin-only options.
Reliability
Beko is a budget brand, and this machine feels like it's been built to a relatively low spec. We'd expect to get a few years of use out of it, but it's not likely to have the durability of a more expensive machine.
Conclusion - could be cheaper
The Beko WM74145W is by no means a bad choice of washing machine. It's clearly skirting the bottom end of the market when it comes to size and build quality, but it has some nice features, like the large LED display panel, A+++ efficiency rating and a good range of programmes. It's a noisy machine however, and we think it's over-priced.
We'd be looking to spend no more than £250 on this model, and if you can find it at that price, then we'd recommend it.

Have just been told that what I have at the moment (NOT a BEKO!) will
NOT spin bath mats etc - you apparently hang them out dripping wet! in
this climate!
Just need to know that this machine will
also:
Wash and spin slightly heavier items such as bath
mats, small, light rugs, Duvets, feather coats and jackets
Or will it just leave them a soggy mass in bottom of machine?
