Beko CXFG1685DW review
|Review: October 2015|
In a nutshell: The Beko CXFG1685DW is a compact and inexpensive fridge-freezer that offers a lot of storage space and is very well designed. Smart-looking, with a built-in water dispenser, the CXFG1685DW impresses with its looks, build quality and practical interior layout. With features like auto-defrosting and a chrome wine rack, it offers a lot for a budget model.
Design & features
The design of the Beko CXFG1685DW really makes the most of a narrow 60cm space, fitting in a lot of storage capacity - in both the fridge and freezer compartments.
It's obvious from the solid feel and well-finished details that this appliance is of high quality, despite its low price. The sleek White finish looks very smart in a contemporary kitchen, especially with the water dispenser in the upper door. Inside is a generous space, with an ultra-slimline design for the dispenser. The doors could be easier to open, however, requiring a good pull, and the integrated handles don't help with this, although they do look nice.
The fridge layout is particularly good, making great use of the available space. At the bottom is a salad/veg crisper, and there are four glass shelves above, that are adjustable in height. A chrome bottle rack can be used to store wine. The fridge door has plenty of space for milk, juice, and eggs, and the water dispenser is built into the door too. This isn't plumbed, so there are no special installation requirements, but it does mean that you have to top the water up manually, and it's not the easiest to fill. The fridge area is well lit, with LED lighting, so you won't ever need to change a bulb.
The freezer has three drawers and an ice bank tray. It's 4-star rated for freezing. The clear fronts to the freezer compartments make it easy to find what you're looking for.
Both the fridge and freezer feature auto-defrosting, because life's really too short to spend time defrosting.
Efficiency, noise & reliability
The appliance has an A+ efficiency rating, tending towards the lower end of the efficiency range. It's not a particularly quiet machine either.
Beko enjoys a solid reputation among budget appliance makers, and the CXFG1685DW certainly seems to be well constructed.
Conclusion - an excellent budget option
We're impressed by the Beko CXFG1685DW fridge freezer. Despite its compact size, it packs in plenty of storage space, and we're really impressed by the practicality of its interior layout. The appliance gives the appearance of being well-made and feels really solid and durable. It doesn't offer the best when it comes to noise levels or energy efficiency, but it certainly isn't the worst. The water dispenser might be a useful feature, or you may find that the inconvenience of topping it up outweighs its advantage. Either way, it doesn't take up much space, so on balance, we like it.
Finally, we'd say that this is a really good value appliance and one that we really recommend. The Beko CXFG1685DS silver is also available.
