AEG L69470FL review

In a nutshell: The AEG L69470FL washing machine is a budget-priced appliance from a high-end German manufacturer. It's a compact machine with a high-tech control panel and solid build quality. Its brushless inverter motor helps to deliver an A+++ energy efficiency, quiet operation, and good reliability too. It's a strong all-round performer at a very competitive price.

Design

AEG is best known as a maker of premium appliances, but the AEG L69470FL belongs to the German manufacturer's cheaper range. It's a very affordable washing machine, but obviously it doesn't have quite the high-end features of AEG's more expensive models.

The AEG L69470FL doesn't match the rock solid build quality of some other AEG washing machines, but it's still very well made. The door needs a bit of a pull to open, but it closes with a reassuring clunk, and the machine gives the impression of being a high quality product.

The wash programmes are set using a programmable display, and we find this less easy to use than machines from some rival brands.

Washing and performance

The 7kg load capacity of this machine is smaller than AEG's high-end washing machines, but is still large enough for a couple or a small family.

There's a good range of wash programmes available, including Cottons, Synthetics, Wools, Delicates, and Easy Iron. An Extra Rinse option is available, and we'd recommend this to remove as much detergent residue as possible and leave clothes fresh and soft.

One useful feature of this machine is AutoSense, which automatically adjusts the wash programme depending on the size of the load, so you can wash quarter, half, three-quarter or full loads for maximum flexibility.

The maximum spin speed is 1400rpm, giving this machine a B rating for spin efficiency.

For energy efficiency, the appliance has an A+++ rating, making it a very efficient machine, on a par with the best from Samsung or Bosch. It doesn't quite match the incredible efficiency ratings of AEG's premium range, which often go well beyond the A+++ rating, but it's still very low on energy use.

The L69470FL is very quiet when washing, but is noisier than other AEG machines we've reviewed when it comes to spinning. It's an average performer in this regard, and we wouldn't say it was noisy when compared to many rival brands. It's just not as quiet as AEG's best.

Reliability

AEG is one of the best manufacturers when it comes to reliability. Although this model is built to a budget, the build quality still seems good to us. The anti-vibration technology used to make the machine run quietly also results in less wear and tear on components.

The machine uses a brushless inverter motor, known to be longer lasting than a conventional motor, and we have confidence that this will turn out to be a durable appliance when compared to others in the same price range.

Conclusion - an affordable AEG

AEG washing machines are prized for their reliability, energy efficiency and silent running, but they are also one of the most expensive brands. The AEG L69470FL promises to deliver all that's good about AEG for about half the cost of the company's premium range.

It does a good job of delivering on that promise. Although it isn't quite as silent as AEG's top-end models, it's quieter than most machines in this middle price bracket. It uses an inverter motor, giving it an A+++ efficiency rating, and making it a durable product that's built to last. It's an excellent choice in the lower-priced range, and a good alternative to a Bosch or Hotpoint.
